Good chance for an upset here.  12 seed vs a 5 seed is always dangerous.  I guess I have to root for Akron since they are in the MAC, but it's gonna be tough to do.

VCU is the one team Dambrot said he didn't want. Terrible draw.

They do get to play the game in Michigan so there should be tons of Akron fans there.  Could be like a home game.

Michigan is also in that session so their fans will scoop up the vast majority of the tickets. Granted, UM fans will probably root for Akron for an easier next game, but it won't be like a home game.

Even in they were playing in the JAR, Akron would have no chance against Havoc without Abreu

Let's go VCU!

(My Virginia Homerism is at an all time high. I also pick JMU to beat Indiana.)

Does Dambrot ever stop and think before he talks?

No way knowing, but my hunch is we would have been the #13 seed in KC against K-State.

If Akron can get its first ever W in the NCAA, there's a good chance they will play Michigan in the 2nd round. The last thing Michigan wants to see is a quick exit handed to them by another MAC team from Ohio. As much as it hurts, I gotta root for the Zips in that game!

As much as we would like to root for VCU, there is a lot of money at stake for the conference. Given we had to dip into academic funding just to pay for our bowl trip, every dollar counts.

I don't think they get out of the first weekend either way. The NCAA did right showing how overrated they were in the regular season. Even their first game features a great PG matchup for Burke.

I'm on board for the Zips, too. I hate when they match up mid-majors in the first round.

I applaud you guys for having better morals than me, because I absolutely refuse to cheer for Akron. I hope VCU beats them by 32 like they did against Butler.

Has nothing to do with morals. It has to do with logic. If you refuse to cheer for Akron it's because of your (irrational) morals.

If you root against Akron you're just like moron Ohio State fans who root for Michigan to lose every game. You're rooting against your best interests.

I have known Shaka Smart since he played at Kenyon for Bill Brown . VCU will pick them up when they get off the bus. The zips will have double digit turnovers before half time.

Shaka could be the next coach at Wake Forest-- not sure that is a great job though

He's turned down a lot better jobs than that already.

VCU is in the A-10, hardly a mid major.

I ALWAYS cheer for the MAC teams in non-conference games, but I honestly can't decide if I will cheer for them in this situation.  I kind of either want them to win, or lose by that 32 number.  No middle crowd--make the conference look good by winning or just embarrass themselves--one or the other.  But more than likely when that game comes on I will cheer for them until I see which way the game goes.  If they're in the game, I'll cheer for them to win.  Ift they're down 15 at half and not in the game, I'll go the other way and hope they get demolished.  That's my current, strange, mindset at this moment.

Right. No way of knowing, but if...if...they had been in Akron's region, there would be four other teams in that region that had their tourney troubles with previous Ohio teams within the last decade -- Georgetown, Florida, Michigan and North Carolina.

It pains me to root for Akron - but a good showing by the Zips helps the MAC - and friends, we need all the help we can get!  So...despite the inevitable and persistent back-wash of vomit I am likely to experience...I hereby declare that I am on-board for the Zips...  Ugh...I just tasted a little just then...yuck!

I used to hate Akron.  I still do, but I also used to.  -Mitch Hedberg (slightly fabricated)

This season, my opinion of the Zips has changed.  Coming into the season, I thought they were pompous, arrogant, and whiners.  The team they have fielded (courted?) this year was still arrogant, and I would have loved to beat them in the tourney just to see them have to lose to us again.  However, they beat us not once, but three times this year and only one was even close by the end of it all.  They have shown a lot of character in the face of adversity and have been able to make the NCAA's because of it.  I don't put their program on the same level as ours.  Their team, yes, the overall program, no.  They haven't had a monumental upset that shocked the country and destroyed virtually every bracket like we did with Georgetown.  They didn't knock off a Big Ten team that has a huge hold over regional coverage, or beat a Big East school and nearly the North Carolina Tar Heels.

For the record, I am rooting for them to change that.  I want them to win in the tourney and make a nice run like we did.  I want them to get the talking heads on ESPN to shut up about a kid who was caught with 5 lbs of Mary-Jane and talk about how yet ANOTHER school represented the Mid-American conference in the Sweet 16.  So for this NCAA tournament...
