People who have to be convinced about the value of playing more games probably need to be convinced about the value of breathing.

As a fan, I don't see much of a point to the Couldn't Be Interested Tournament or the Completely Irrelevant Tournament.  Some have compared them to the lesser bowl games, but at least up to now there hasn't been a playoff to determine the national football champ so the bowl games have value in spotlighting non-AQ conference champs.  But the NIT, CBI and CIT compete directly for fan interest with the NCAA tourney, and come in a poor second.  Basically, the NIT champ can say they're 69th best in the country, CBI 101st and CIT 125th(?).  The CBI and CIT are primarily for players and coaches to get more work in before they (officially, at least) have to pack it in until the fall.  I'm glad that our seniors get a chance to wash some of the bitter taste of Saturday from their mouths on a national stage in the NIT, which still has considerable prestige.  But if they had wound up in the CBI or the CIT, it wouldn't be much consolation.

FWIW, Xavier and Dayton decided not to pursue CBI or CIT. Wright St. is in the CBI.

That is a huge mistake for two teams that need the extra reps. Proves to me what I already learned while on campus at Xavier: they think very highly of themselves. I really wonder why Coach Mack said no to that.

Both Western (ND State) and Kent (Fairfield) have home games in the CBI and CIT, respectively.  Good for them.

Yeah, but they are paying for those reps. Why not just have practices or play D II teams if you need the work. CBI is the Who's Who of America's High School of post season tourneys. There is NO value is spending that much money for a third rate tourney. It's beyond dumb.

CBI is the worse because it preys on fans like us to watch one more good game with our seniors. CBI is the parasite that feeds off of slightly damaged teams after the "life on the road."

I love watching our team play. But, it should not be at the cost that those con artists are charging. It's a travesty to the sport.

.

because it is illegal to conduct practices or play games once you have bowed out of the tourney. It is not till the spring contact period that you can resume workouts and those are limited to hours a week and in the number of players that can be in the gym at a time.

Outside the Playing Season - Academic Year
In sports other than football:

  • Student-athletes may be required to participate in up to 8 hours per week of required strength and conditioning activities and individualized skill instruction.
  •  No more than 2 hours of the permissible 8 can consist of individualized skill instruction. No more than four student-athletes may be involved in skill instruction at all sites combined at any one time.
  • Student-athletes must be given 2 days off from required activities per week.
I know you think your logic is well though out but there is a reason many of those schools see value in participation. I would say that it has benefitted OHIO in scheduling the following yrears, income from additional games, lengthened sessions with kids that need reps and individual instruction badly and some other added benefits I am not going to take the time to ponder on.
