Hesitate to start this thread as I know it's the last thing I, or anyone else, wants to even think about right now but regretfully it's the next logical question.  Anyone know:

*Is this where our likely next landing spot will be?
*If so, when are the teams announced?
*and when do these games begin?

I realize this thread is more appropriate for say, tomorrow, but anyone follow this stuff?

The bastard who ran the NITology site didn't do it this year, and his domain expired this week. I feel lost.

Thanks for the smile on a tough night, guys.

Hope we get a favorable draw, just wait and see now.

Selection show tomorrow on ESPNU and ESPN3 at 9pm, after the NCAA is announced obviously. First rounds Tuesday and Wednesday.

There is a site called "The NIT Bracket Project" that doesn't even have us listed.

It's a bad site, then.  We are guaranteed an NIT birth, unless we go to NCAA (which we won't), because we won a share of the regular season MAC title.

I'm not sure that is true. I think only the regular season champion, which would be Akron because they were the #1 seed, would be guaranteed. For example, if Kent had won the MAC Tourney, I don't think Akron and OU would both get automatic bids to the NIT, only Akron.

We are NOT guaranteed an NIT spot.  That guarantee goes to the #1 seed in case of a tie.  So Akron would have had an NIT automatic bid.

From the ever semi accurate wikipedia: "Similar to the automatic bids the NCAA Tournament grants for all conference tournament champions, all teams that won regular-season conference championships but failed to earn NCAA tournament bids are guaranteed places in the NIT."  We are co-champs.  It doesn't say anything about seeding, etc.

We will not get an automatic bid. Now I'm going to bed.

I think we've got a 60/40 chance of getting an NIT invite. Certainly far from a lock.

StatSheet projects us as a #7 seed in the NIT.

I would put money on it that we will get in.  This number 1 seed stuff is getting pretty stupid.  Akron and Oho won the regular season championship.  Since Akron receives the NCAA automatic invite, I am more than confident that Ohio gets in as a conference champion.  We will know by this time tomorrow night.  Feel more than free to blast me if I am wrong.  Bottom line is that seeding of the MAC tournament has nothing to do with being invited to play in the NIT.

The NIT is a 32 team tournament. That mean only 8 seeds per region...thus we'd be a next to last seed and playing a #2. Theoretically it means we're one of the last/worst 5-8 teams in.

Like I said, welcome to the NIT bubble.

The NIT wiki link above correctly lists Akron as the ONLY MAC auto-bid for the NIT. But hey, if you don't believe that then maybe you'll believe the NCAA's NIT website directly.

"Any regular-season champion of an NCAA Division I conference (as determined by the conference’s tie-break protocol) not otherwise selected to the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship will secure an automatic qualification into the NIT."

www.ncaa.com/championships/basketball-men/nit#!postseason_nit

Akron won the MAC tie-breaker by beating us twice, thus they got the #1 seed AND the NIT auto-bid in the process.

Now, we might get an NIT at-large still, but there's absolutely nothing automatic about it.

Just curious, will Mr. Schaus run a shuttle from your front door to the arena?

I would take your link to the NCAA's site regarding the NIT qualifications to mean this:  If Akron loses to Kent in the semi's on Friday night, and Ohio loses to Western Michigan, by Mid American Conference rules, observed by the NIT, Akron would get the NIT bid over Ohio because of the number one seeding for the Mid American Conference tournament.  By winning tonight, Akron obviously plays in the NCAA tournament.  This leaves Ohio, regular season Mid American Conference Champions, to earn the NIT invitation as a regular season conference champion because of NOT being selected to the NCAA tournament.

I guess we will see.  I am confident like I stated before, that this is the actual interpretation.

I think you mean only the #1 seed because we were the regular season champions with Akron.  If you look at the MAC official records we are listed as MAC Regular Season Champions.

That's poorly worded because the MAC has no tie-breaker to determine the regular-season champion. They have tie-breakers only to determine seeding for the tournament.

If Borna is correct and we make the NIT with Arkansas in Fayetteville, get ready for when the entire arena "calls the hogs".  The first time I witnessed this in person I laughed my a$$ off.  It is one thing to see some Arkansas farmer call the hogs, it is quite another to see a good looking cheerleader doing the same.  Call it culture shock.

Provided we're in, is there any chance we could host a first round game?
