Incredible. I'd be calling the ticket office five minutes ago if I were a Colonial fan.

So not only does UK miss the NCAA, but they have to play a road game as a #1 seed in the NIT because the NCAA is using Rupp.  Salt in the wound, baby.

Not sure how well the UK fans will travel for this but this could be an overwhelming event for RMU......then again I guess there are only so many tickets available?

UK has enough "local" fans to fill any arena the size of Sewell in any city in the country (and 99% of them never attended UK).

This game will be a ticket scalpers paradise...............

Why not just move it downtown and make some real money for your program.

Very strange.  And fascinating.  Did they give UK a choice in the matter?

The game is on Tuesday, why not just play it in Rupp?  Tourney is a full 2 days later.

Why not move it to another arena in the area?

Why not go to another city like Cincy?  Or Columbus?  Or Athens?  Or anywhere in between Lexington and Pittsburgh?

How awesome would that be for RMU?  You'd almost prefer that tp winning the conference tourney and going to the NCAA tourney as a 15 seed.

and we're losing our minds because we're not going to be back in the Sweet 16 this year. Imagine going from National Champs to playing RoMo in the NIT.

And go over to the UK boards and check out the Calipari bashing if you think JC is getting too much grief..........

The NCAA requires that you use one of their floors. I'm sure they've already put down the NCAA floor in Rupp and the NCAA would not allow an NIT game to be played on it.

This may be the smallest gym where Kentucky Mens Hoops has played in the last 50 years.

I still find it strange they are not playing this game in Memorial Coliseum.  That is where UK played during the 1st round of the NIT during Billy G's last year (vs. UNLV) because of a conflict with Rupp then also.   I know at that time there were some UK fans who worried about that team going into Memorial Coliseum, losing, and tarnishing the history of UK Men's Basketball in that arena. I don't know if there was a conflict there or not - it is where UK women's hoops play.

Talk on Twitter is they didn't have enough personnel to work at the Memorial Coliseum on such short notice. I'm assuming those same folks who will be working at Rupp would have been at Memorial.

Could have gotten a ton of volunteers in Lexington for this. They are missing out on a couple thousand extra dollars in tickets by having it at Robert Morris.

PLEASE Bobby Mo, for the love of God, beat these guys.  I hate Kentucky with a passion, and seeing this turn of events unfold would be almost as glorious as if we went to the NCAA's.  Oh, and a rematch would be nice too

I tell ya', this plays right into Cal's hands!  The outcome of the game is immaterial.  Instead, he gets to show his entitled brats what happens when you don't work hard and play as a team...

Probably not, some of those holiday tournaments, particularly Chaminade, are played in pretty small gyms.

These are all questions I asked when I heard about this.  Why not play at Rupp today? Even if it's decorated like an NCAA venue, it's still their home court.  Beyond that, I'd have to imagine the timeline is too short to staff a venue that isn't theirs.

Calipari went to Moon High School which is about a quarter mile from the Sewell Center and RMU Campus. It's a "homecoming" for him and I think RMU was on the short list of places that Calipari suggested since Rupp/Lexington was unavailable.  I think his mother and/or grandmother still lives about a stone's throw from RMU and it certainly will be the biggest event RMU has ever hosted. Nice gesture on Calipari's part in what has been a less than fulfilling season to Kentucky's standards.

With this idea in mind: I'd love nothing more than if the NCAA adopted some sort of FA Cup style tournament. Not, mind you, a tournament to replace the NCAA tournament or the NIT, or even a post-season tournament, but some sort of single elimination tournament that took place throughout the course of the regular season where a field of the top 2 teams from each conference the year prior were entered into a random drawing and a home team and away team were chosen to play one another. It'll never happen, because there's too much money to be made by major teams insisting on playing at home and at neutral sites, but it would make for some great TV if teams like Kentucky had to play at Robert Morris type teams more frequently.

All of a sudden, losing to RMU on the road doesn't bother me anymore.
