Fair enough and I can agree with you on their two most recent high profile hires.  You might call their football championship a flash in the pan but for the 10 years from 2000 to 2009 they actually had a better record that OU.  Three 1 and 11 seasons have followed though so yes, right now they are a cellar dweller and we are enjoying quite a successful run.  An Akron fan might offer this retort to your $2 soccer ticket claim - "but you guys sell season basketball tickets for $1.50 each."

Kind of like political campaigns, we can all pick statistics that support our points.

True, but our $1.50 games are the seats above the part of the Convo that has more than 5000 seats. We have the JAR covered, plus 8000 extra seats.

Since the season is over and none of us have to formulate game plans for the coach until the fall, when we make claims like this why not offer some specifics.  Why don't you like or respect their athletic department?  Certainly isn't facilities because other than the Convo, theirs are hands down superior.  Can't be their MAC football championships because they have one more recent one than we do, and it can't be there 7 consecutive 20+ winning seasons in basketball or their 6 consecutive post season appearances in basketball.  Can't be there track team since we don't have one and certainly can't be their national championship in soccer.

Seriously, like giacomo said, let's get better and prove on the court and field who is the better team.

We don't like or respect their athletic department because Akron (the city, university, and fans) sucks! (the Athletes themselves I exclude from that. I don't think they suck, i just think they either made a poor decision in their choice of schools or couldn't find a better scholarship to accept).

Also, soccer sucks and no one follows collegiate track and field.

Let's at least agree to keep this discussion to SPORTS.

Leave soccer where it belongs, in the third world where people enjoy watching other people run around for 4 hours accomplishing nothing.

Wes, I hope your PhD studies include some sociology.  Seems to me, and I'm not a doctor, that you have a very bad but curable case of ethnocentrism.

4 hours? Soccer games take less time than an NFL game and roughly the same as a college basketball game

I think you need an emoticon. I get it.....not sure everyone here will. For the record one of my 4 sons embraces his Gay lifestyle. Not sure he would see the humour.

Haha well my comment was said tongue in cheek. Didn't mean to derail the Akron hating!

But thankfully no I didn't take any sociology beyond my one undergrad requirement. I got kicked out of that class a lot for telling the professor (and I use that term loosely) that she was full of crap and making her look bad.

As to be me being ethnocentric, I don't judge anybody for enjoying or playing soccer. Be my guest. Just don't try to involve it in a real sports discussion .

How do you know? They don't keep track of time! It just runs and runs...until it runs out then they arbitrarily have a super top secret person "in the know" who just let's everybody keep running around until they decide enough is enough.

Maybe it just FEELS like 4 hours, lol. I'd have more fun watching paint dry. At least then you get the reward of having something freshly painted. A soccer game doesn't even accomplish that!

Ok ok enough about soccer....back to Akron :).
