There is a reason they call their defense Havoc. Like everyone has said, horrible matchup for Zippy.

I can easily see VCU -- big enrollment, decent size city, name coach, exciting style -- one of the additions when the new Big East wants to get to 12.

Akron is embarrassing themselves at the moment. For the good of the MAC, I hope they pull it together cause at 30-13 early, if it cintinues, this will get seriously ugly.

Welcome to big boy basketball, Akron.

Ohio would've matched up better with VCU. Not saying the Cats would've beaten them, but DJ and Stevie and Walt can play at this pace.

You think maybe we should have gameplanned to put some full court pressure on them since they have no point guard?

With our 0-fer record against teams in the RPI top 100 this year, VCU would be slaughtering Ohio right now.

I think VCU has a gear that even we don't have.

Treadwell is dominating and keeping zippy in it.

DJ is closer to that gear than Betancourt.

Mark, statistics don't play basketball games. Akron's better than Ohio. Not sure they're better than Ohio vs. VCU, though. I was merely saying VCU's style is not good for Akron. This is a nightmare for them.

Also,VCU should probably be a 4-seed watching this. They play like this, no one in the whole tournament may  beat them.

VCU  SLU was a great game. THose 2 teams turn you over and do it with speed and intensity for 40 mins. Bench depth unparalleled.

Nice job embarrassing yourselves Akron. Makes last week's performance against this team even more frustrating. I've never seen so many 10 and 5 second calls.

VCU is gonna empty the bench for the last 15-16 minutes of this one...but that doesn't mean much as deep as they are.

Akron could lose this one by 40. Legit.

You might be right, but VCU's style wouldn't be good for us either.  VCU would easily "out-athletic" Ohio.

No doubt. They'd destroy most teams the way they've played tonight. Shaka is not only a great coach, his teams are fun to watch.

But hey, at least Akron will give VCU the flu.  Seriously though, that does suck for Akron.

Thought that EXACT thought the entire MAC Championship Game and thinking about it here tonight---

why didn't we hit Akron with a full-game, full court press?  If anything, I thought we pressured the ball even less than usual in the MACC Game.  We may not have the athletes VCU has, but you stick Ricardo, Smith, DJ, Walt, Stevie on these guys it may have done exactly what's happening here.  Pace is too fast and their bigs aren't getting the ball consistently and when they do, they play rushed.

We settled back, let them play at their pace, let them pound the ball down our throats and really let them play to their obvious strength.

Kellogg and Offutt are pretty good press guys.

I would have used it more.

When did Kellogg get the reputation as a good defender?  I have seen multiple people state that over the last month. I absolutely do not see it.  How many shooting guards had career nights against us this year?

And back on topic, VCU is impressive.  Agreed on the thought that we should have applied much more pressure on the Zips.

Had to LOL @ the halftime crew.

Greg Gumbel said "Akron is regrouping at the half down 25" followed by Barkley saying "Whatever regrouping is, it isn't good" so Gumbel amended and said "Maybe they aren't regrouping, but recruiting at the half".

Haha. Ouch.

Yeah, I didn't realize Betancort would melt like an ice cube in a volcano when pressed.

My Akron pick for my bracket out of sheer loyalty to the MAC...uh...I'm re-thinking that.

Been saying that all year. Love nick but the numbers would grade out that he was a step slow over screens and late recovering all year. On the ball he was decent but he got burned trailing through screens pretty consistently. Conversely,  Trav got way too little credit for covering gaps and off the ball d.

I'd agree with that 100% Borna. Problems with Travis are that he's not quick enough for on ball defense against athletic 2 guards and he's not a good enough ball handler against teams that pressured us.

It was a little bit of pick your poison. Want to get burned on the ball? Play Travis. Want to get burned on screens? Play Nick. I think Nick has the ability to work on his deficiencies and get better. Travis may be limited in how much he can improve by what the good lord gave him.
