As a former player under the "leadership" of Semeka Randall, I honestly want to start this post by saying Thank You to the administration for finally making this change.

When I think back on my time at OU, I think of smiles, laughter, friendships, the 110, Rufus, Court Street, "Stand Up and Cheer", and so many other wonderful memories. I truly bleed green. But when I think of my years playing under Semeka Randall, a part of me is sad. Not sad because of playing time, number of losses (Although I wish there were many more wins), or how many points I did or did not score. I get sad because of how my teammates were treated...sad because of the opportunities lost...sad because of how special the program SHOULD be and ISN'T...

It makes me sad because the student-athlete deserves better. Ohio University deserves better.

There is no place like OU...for me, I will always consider it home. I do not write this post to be disrespectful, or to be out of line. I apologize if this offends anyone, it truly is not intended to do so. I am writing it because I have held my tongue  for quite some time and I am thankful that the administration is finally giving Ohio Women's Basketball a chance to be successful again. I want a coach that understands what OU stands for...what it means to be a BOBCAT...a coach that will lead us to tremendous on-court success, but also understands the importance of respecting and caring for their players. OU is too special of a place...no player should leave with a bad taste in their mouth....OU is simply too special for that.

So THANK YOU for the breath of fresh air. THANK YOU!

No way of knowing if this is actually a former player or not, but I'll put my faith in it mostly because I want to believe our department is producing student-athletes who can write entire message board posts without any spelling or grammar errors. Now that? That's pride.

FormerOUplayer--Don't be a stranger; post here more often.  On all the threads.

Is our facility--The Convo--any kind of recruiting advantage for women's hoops?

it absolutely is a recruiting advantage... it's a wonderful facility. Randall didn't even get any recruits signed during the fall recruitment period. Just plain bad. Ouch.

Of course you want to know.

There are many things that should never see the light of day. Kudos to Former Player in expressing her thoughts eloquently and without malice.

Welcome to the board and please do not be a stranger. Well said. Well done.

For new coach, how about Caroline Mast (Dougherty), one of the most deserving of a number hanging in the rafters?  All time leading scorer, men or women...has taken teams to state championships.
  Thoughts?

it's a thought. As far as I know she doesn't have any collegiate coaching experience. Could be wrong though. She is a good high school coach (not sure if she's still coaching Warsaw or not). Anyone have any insight on this?

I believe she left coaching after the second daughter was done so she could spend more time with family.  Or at least that is what I remember reading in the local paper, so take that with a grain of salt.  So, while I think she would be a great fit, not sure that the desire will be there.

I did some research after my last post, that appears to be the case. I agree, not sure if the desire would be there if she was presented with the opportunity to coach. I'm also fairly certain she has never coached at the collegiate level, but you can take that for what it's worth... she's a great coach.

Tracy Roller left coaching after a nice stint at Ball. A perfectionist by nature, she lived on the recruiting trail and it darn near broke her. I do not envy coaches that life....;particualrly ones that do not surround themselves with great assistants who do the legwork and beat the bushes for recruits. THe assistants do the bulk of recruiting and are in a worse position as far as time away from families.(not like they ever go to RI for a month in the summer). I hope the next person brings a staff together that can beat the bushes and find kids to come to OHIO. I think girls and their families far more than guys love coming to OHIO. From all the parents I have met over the years moms and dads love having their kids in Athens as opposed to an urban or far less safe campus

I think it takes a special person. Hope our ad has his short list aas he knid of knew this was coming.

Happy to see our AD made the move and OU womens bball may be on the upswing.

Let's hope Schaus brings in someone who can turn this program around. Even if Randall meant well in all of her actions (some were questionable, obviously) she was not the right person for the job. We'll see.

I too applaud "Former Player" with her frankness and her play at Ohio.  There have been many rumors over the past four years.  The adm. failed to follow through concerning those rumors.  The number of assistants that went through the womens basketball program had to be a tell-tailed sign that there were problems.

There is no reason that a new coach can come into Athens and create a positive and winning program!!  They have an excellent facility, very good budget and a great university to bring good athletes into the program.  I feel that the mens basketball staff can play a very important role to help develop this program.

I feel very confident that Mr. Schaus will bring in a devoted and strong candidate to excell at Ohio.

Panda, I did point that out about Randall not being able to keep a consistent Assistant coaching staff. I'm sure red flags were there after the constant turnover in assistants. Take for example last year: Megan Thorburn, Norbert Spivey, Dustin Edwards, and Skyler Young all departed after last season concluded.
