We host BGSU this weekend....one of the best 2 teams in the MAC. Think the game should be promoted as "Bobcat Blowout".

Hide the kids...this one could get VERY ugly.

67-41 today.  Arkley's tweets were just downright depressing

Did any students show up for the free McDonalds? Or were there 475 leftover Big Macs (of 500)

Against my better judgement, I decided to go today. Depressing would be an understatement....this team has flat-out quit. BGSU played their back-ups most of the 2nd half. Most of their 2nd half plays were designed to allow their walk-on to get off a shot.

It was actually a pretty good student crowd today thanks to the McDonalds. Granted, many left after halftime. They did it up with the tailgate and a lights-out intro. After that, though, it was all downhill. Not a pretty game.

Catfan 28- the team I watched yesterday did not quit, but they were competing under very difficult circumstances. Fatigue was certainly a factor as a very good B.G. team continued to rotate ten players throughout the game. The same thing would happen if the men's team played Akron with six players available. Oh, and just so you understand the comparison- we would start Goff and McKinley and bring a hobbled Travis Wilkens in to guard Zeke Marshall(no Cooper, no Big Reg, no Ivo, no Walt). For subs we would get a Chet Feldmanesque player from the football team for extra manpower. It was not a pretty game, but don't throw our players under the bus.  It was exactly the game most people would expect given our depleted roster and I don't see that changing until we get some players back. This reminds me of Dustin Ford's freshman campaign and it was painful to watch too.

At least they're consistent... as most all of their MAC losses are now by 30 points or so each.

77-46 today

I really feel for the person in the athletic department who has to write their game summaries.  When you start to read them it sounds like "oh, well they must have really played a good game and came up short" only to discover they were bombed by 30+ points.  I think you can only apply lipstick to a pig so many ways.

I believe the conference office ditched the double headers.

Can't be Conference policy.  Kron had a DH on Saturday and advertised at least one other for later this year.

Today was another bitter disappointment, losing to Kent State 57-55 in the final seconds. Kent State is RPI #330. For those keeping score at home, there's only 345 teams.

This was likely the only game we would be "favored" in all year, and we had many of the injured players back. Despite being up by as much as 15, we lost by squandering a 4 point lead in the final :45 seconds. A series of bad decisions (turnovers and poor defense) led to the collapse. And yes, coaching most certainly played a role. If I had any doubt that Semeka Randall will not return, it was put to bed today.

On the bright side, kudos to the athletic department for the "Celebrating Women Leaders" promotion today. It was a very well-done halftime ceremony that brought lots of new faces out to the game. If only they had something better to watch...

After today, it's questionable whether the wife and I will be returning for another game this year.

I've watched her play multiple sports since 8th grade and at every level and in every sport she has more than risen to the occasion.  I think she's more than worth the chance.

56-35 loss at home on senior day against Buffalo. That is a season-low in points. In looking at the play-by-play, Ohio was down by as much as 17 in the first half and not one timeout was called during that time. Now, I have not been to any of the games this season, so I don't know how Semeka has been managing during gameplay, but to me, that shows that she is letting the team lose. Inexcusable.

I'll go ahead and predict Bob Boldon at Youngstown State now. Dramatic turnaround and Ohio native.

I don't follow WBB much, are the challenges to having a good program the same as on the mens side or is there a difference in available coaching talent and/or quality players that makes it more of a crap shoot?

Something I noticed about former UT Vols star Semeka Randall is that she NEVER recruited in Tennessee that I  ever heard of.  What's up with that?  With the name recognition she carries in TN?  WTF??

There is a girl's h.s. team in TN with a 58 game winning streak.... and she didn't bother to recruit there???

One immense challenge with WBB is the talent disparity. The gap between the elite programs and the next tier is immense. Similarly, the gap between the next level (generally mid-to-low level BCS programs) and conferences like the MAC is just as big. If you follow the WBB tournament, you'll notice that it goes "chalk" much more than the men's tournament. A 12 beating a 5 is a huge deal in WBB...not so much on the MBB side.

We are statistically one of the 25 worst WBB programs in Division I (RPI #321). If you check out the RPI, you'll see we reside among teams like Arkansas Pine Bluff, Savannah State, Houston Baptist, Texas Pan American, etc. We're not just bad - we're at the absolute bottom of the food chain.

I'd like to see us find a coach that has done a rebuilding job before. Whether it be at the low-end of Division I (OVC, MAAC, NEC, etc) or even the Division II level. The challenges faced by the next coach will be tremendous. We just lost 3 quality seniors, and there may be additional player departures with the coaching change. The cupboard's not bare - but I think it's going to be very, very empty for the new hire.

This program is in absolute shambles. Plagued with injuries, lack of motivation (on players part), and no will to win games. Players played out of position for the majority of the season. Something else worth noting: Semeka could not hold on to a consistent coaching staff. All of the assistants were gone after last season (including the DOBO). There are several players who have not contributed and have sat the bench their entire careers (some with injuries, some not). Semeka is not a good coach, and that is very evident by now. I did not go to one home game this year... watching the online broadcast was enough for me. I would stop watching when they got down by double digits. Just painful to watch.

When you look at programs like Bowling Green, it's very easy to tell why they have won so many games in the past decade. They (along with Curt Miller at the helm) established a program rich in winning tradition. They have 10 consecutive 20+ win seasons, including this season. BG's run to the sweet 16 in 2007 was magical and a cinderella story for sure, but much kudos goes to the fantastic coaching ability of Curt Miller, his staff, and their ability to recruit high quality, well-rounded players to BG. While they are in the middle of the pack for the MAC this year, they still have had great success this season in a top-heavy MAC.

Schaus originally said in 2008 when Semeka was hired that they had hit a half-court shot at the buzzer with hiring her. Wonder what he is thinking now? Probably that she shouldn't have been hired in the first place. Let's be honest here, just because you played under Pat Summitt and won a few national championships while playing for her does NOT mean you will be a good coach. Some people are meant to be known for their playing ability and not for coaching - they do not always coincide with one another. I'd like to see Schaus bring in someone with a proven head coaching record. Randall came in with no head coaching experience. While everyone deserves their shot at their first head coaching gig, I feel they could have chosen someone better.

Now it's time to attempt to right the ship and hope a new coach will do a better job. Ohio is lucky to have Baldwin and Black this year as freshmen - they helped with a good amount of the scoring this year. The talent level of this team is defniitely lower than the other MAC teams - without a doubt. Until Ohio can bring in higher quality recruits, you can't count them in for coming even close to a winning season.

Sidenote: It appears that they have cleaned house with the entire coaching staff - the coaches part is now empty on the Bobcats website. Not surprising, just thought I'd mention it.

I do want to add that there are a number of former players that played for Pat Summitt that are now very successful coaches. Just making the point that some players (in general) aren't good at coaching... it happens.
