I'm just waiting for another comment saying go to the MVC. If this was my fantasy, I would join the A-10 and bring in some of the MVC teams, Belmont, and Akron. So St. Louis would be relatively close to Wichita, Ohio and Akron, and Belmont and bring in Murray State racers. This would be a sick line up for the departing Xavier and Butler.

That's what tournaments decide...who's the better team for this one game.

Not only are they better, but we know that they are exactly 4 points better.

This game is the perfect example of why I love March.  WSU was brilliant in their preperation, yesterday.  The TV color guy pointed out that the Shockers coach studied the OSU-Wisconsin game and used it as a basis for his game plan.  WI kept the Buckeyes from running and turned Craft into a scorer - that is what WSU did - the halftime score was within 4 points of the game he studied.   As one would expect Ohio State figured them out a little and made a run - but it was, as we all saw, too little, too late.  If these 2 teams played again I would bet it would have a different outcome.

Kudos to "The Valley" - first final four since Larry Bird took the Sycamores there in 1979!  I love March.

Part of what makes one team better than another is coaching.  It's not just the quality of the players and their resumes.

Who cares.  This is totally irrelevant to anything.  They couldn't bring it when it mattered.

Agreed here.  Great to see a non-power conference team in the Final Four again.  Will be rooting for them to win it all, even against Michigan, my daughter's alma mater and school that took a lot of my money.

Then why even ask the original question?

Thanks, upSan...Thad has made the occiasional adjustment in his days on the bench.  I'm not a buckeye apologist - I am a fan of March.  Its about one day/one game.  Yesterday belonged to the Shockers.

To get some indication of the number of folks here who believe it really counts to win on the court vs. those who think these other factors determine the best team.

What other factors? Nobody has ever suggested anything other than on-court results. We're just using a sample size 10x yours.

Eight people think that OSU is a better team than WSU.  I find that amazing.  The key word here, to me, is team -- which includes players' chemistry, attitude, desire and coaching that they received both in preparation for the game and during the game with adjustments, pep talks in the huddle, etc.  It's a synergistic whole.  To dismiss that with an assertion that the loser is still the better team seems to me arrogant in the extreme.

I don't think it's arrogance to look at OSU and WSU and say that if they played 10 times, OSU probably wins 7.  Who was the better team?  OSU.  Who was the better team that night?  WSU.  Wichita was swept by Evansville this year, and wasn't the best team in the MVC.  But in a one-and-done environment on a neutral floor, Wichita was better than OSU.  That's all that matters.  Was FGCU a better team than Georgetown, or was FGCU a better team than Georgetown on one night?

One of the more impressive things to me is that Wichita is making this run even though they had to replace their top 5 scorers from last year. Gives one hope that our needing to replace the most successful senior class in OHIO history does not necessarily mean that next years team will be tagged as the dreaded "rebuilding" process.

No, but they "got them better."

That's a pretty solid stat. Thanks for finding it/sharing it. That does seem to bode well for the future!

JSF--You sure have all the answers.  Must be great to be an undoubted, thorough-going expert on most everything.  (You'll call me out.  But if you read my posts, they generally asks more questons and show more thinking/doubt than anyone else on this board.)

WichSttate proved which team is better.  They played.  They played in a very key game.  Who won?

That was true before tonight.   And tonight, WIchState showed that they are one terrific team (against Louisville in Final Four).

Sure, columbus is clearly better than WichState.  Would beat them 70-99% of the time.

Unless they played each other when it mattered.
