You did not even come close to saying something not blatantly sexist.

JSF hits the nail on the head with the sexist charge. It makes me wonder if anyone on here has been fortunate enough to foster a mentor/mentee type relationship with someone from the other gender in their place of business. It's certainly something that I've experienced, and I'm certainly better for it.

It seems crazy to me that we're still so backwards in our thinking of women coaching women, etc. etc.

psh, why would I do that? Men should mentor men, and women should mentor women, as nature intended. And men should be paid more for the mentoring, because that just makes sense.

My son's AAU coach is a woman.  She's a tremendous coach and one of the most respected in the area. I don't see the problem.

I would give anything to be coached by Pat Summitt.

Would Pat Summitt have the same success with a men's team as she did with women's teams?

I think she would be fine strategically but I'm sure she would have run into recruiting problems.  Obviously, I can't say this for certain, but I'm sure there are a number of players that wouldn't want to play for a woman.  It would take a considerable amount of time and success to remove the stigma.  At some point it will happen, just maybe not in my lifetime.

On a semi-related theme, Jennifer Bushby is an assistant coach for the Ashland team that just won the DII women's championship.  Big kudos to Bushby!
From that same OU team, Jenn Poff is an assistant with Kent.

Both were great guards and scorers for the Cats with high BBIQ's.

I saw that OKatz. I was unaware of Poff till I met Stephanie Gibson who had played at Kent working at the Omni WIlliam Penn Hotel in Pittsburgh.

As for Summit coaching men, She addressed this subject through out her career in many interviews. She was on the cutting edge of women getting their own tourney and had no desire to go away from her life's work on the women's side advancing their game and exposure in the media. Google will give you several articles and excerpts from her book ......and a fair amount of message board discussions rehashing her ability to coach men.

Probably the biggest issue with a women coaching a men's team is that college coaches these days, particularly at the more elite programs, do more alumni handshaking and marketing of the program than they do coaching and recruiting. I still think it would be a hard sell for a woman coach to collect a lot of money from the more male dominated alumni base at bigger schools. I've listened to interviews with U.K. Insiders who state that the biggest reason Billie Gillispie lost his job at U.K. was not the record, but rather his lack of interest in meeting with the wealthy influential alumni and supporters who grease the wheels at U.K. I am not sure those folks are ready to write checks to a men's program with a female coach.

My mentors in fitness training and nutrition are a 26 year old woman and a 22 year old woman.  They are authorities in their fields despite their young ages.  Certified in just about everything.  I hate to admit that the 22 year old is a Fiami grad.

well stated!

I've heard it said by those who follow TOSU's  women's program that a contributing factor to Foster's dismissal was his lack of enthusiasm for glad-handing the program's supporters.

Did I really just read this and is this guy serious?  If so, well, I guess, well, I would just be better not commenting.

I know, right? I can't believe the coaches at the 300+ other schools with women's teams didn't decide to just utterly dominate for decades like Pat did since it was obviously so much easier to do.

You're either being sarcastic, or missing the point - not sure which.
