Yeah I agree, who need to pay coaches? What exactly do they DO anyway? Sit on the bench and sip their water while collecting fat stacks of cash.

I think we should adopt BLSS concept and just turn the whole thing into AAU. Pay dem boyz. Somebody's dad or uncle can probably coach.

This is the way.

Ohio is favored by 3.5

NET ratings: Ohio 210, WMU 266
Torvik: Ohio 179, WMU 305
KenPom: Ohio 175, WMU 287

Never easy to win in the zoo, but this should be a W.

Doesn't mean it will be. Should be.

Quite flattering that you think the President of the NCAA proposed "my concept." But he didn't ask my opinion, unfortunately.

Like it or not, both players and coaches are gonna have to get paid. If you all have better ideas as to where that money is gonna come from, I'm all ears.

Joking aside, schools from small markets and smaller conferences are absolutely going to struggle with this. I'm of the opinion that's it's better to pay for the coach - who hopefully has the ability to find hidden gems as recruits who don't command top dollar, or finds creative ways to raise money to afford the occasional splurge. This is the best chance of continued and sustained success, though it will absolutely have years where it just doesn't work out.

Just like small market baseball teams. Sometimes they collect enough prospects and guys not on big deals to put a contender on the field and they make a run here and there, but the flip side of that coin is the seasons when they have to jettison all that talent to try and collect the next wave of cheap talent, and some of those seasons will be bleak. Take the average on the aggregate and they don't/can't compete year to year.

This will get exacerbated in the wild wild west of NCAA.

If you truly want my opinion, it's for all the non-P5's to say screw it and completely break apart to form a "new" student-athlete focused NCAA while the P5's become the minor league, pro feeders, totally focused on big money TV contracts, recruits, coaches and facilities that would bankrupt everyone else that they all want to be anyway.

Let Alabama and Georgia and O$U play for minor league trophies every year and let's let the rest of us get back to college sports.

Just re-emphasizing that in our own case. We're a mid-major. Funds are always going to be more limited. Seasons like the one we’re currently having, could have greater negative impact if not turned around for this reason.
This is my biggest concern at the moment. A down season can hit hard in multiple ways. It can dry up NIL donations, and lead to transfers out because you become ripe for the picking by those with more money. And in our case, "those with more money" isn't just P5 schools. It could be Akron or Western Michigan or Miami, too. You're not only as risk of losing guys who are good enough to transfer up, but you're also susceptible to lateral transfers who raise money better than you.
Potentially losing our own key guys becomes a legitimate one if the losses keep piling up and morale is down. BVP and Sears obviously had opportunities to move up and this was pre-collective times, but even that happened on the heels of a 25 win season.

If we finish below .500, I wouldn’t rule anything out. Need to right the ship starting today.

Players these days would probably prefer dad or uncle coaching

And it's funny, I know many who despise the governing bodies and want the state government to get involved, but yet hate everything the government does get involved in. Irony at it's finest.
Is it not possible to simply disapprove of their methods, fiscal responsibility and overall quality of service provided? To despise them does not necessarily mean to think they should not exist, but are just unacceptable in their current state.
It is, but for many I know despise is the right word

I don't think it has to be binary. Totally possible to pay our coach a very competitive rate while also reallocating some money to NIL funds (assuming the Baker proposal takes). This resource is old a few years old, but there are plenty of strong programs -- some stronger than ours -- who pay well below below Boals. It's not like I'm suggesting we pay 150k. I'm just pointing out that given the market that's shaking out for NIL players at the mid-major level, paying a coach $500k instead of $650k makes a big difference.

And I don't look at this database (www.midmajormadness.com/2019/11/4/20946421/ncaa-basketbal... ) and think to myself "oh, you just can't get a talented coach for $500k. You clearly can get them for less than that. You may have to pay to keep them -- but I consider it a good use of money to pay to keep a proven guy, rather than pay top of the conference money no matter what.

This is what I've been suggesting, too. More so in football, where the discrepancy feels much bigger and we're not even eligible for a championship.

I would be surprised if Brown and Clayton return next year. I hope I'm wrong.

Certainly looks like a season ender for Elmore.

Hope for a sprain, but looked terrible.

No words.

Losing EJ4 for any significant amount of time is going to hurt. I'll wait and see if it means we have him for Cleveland or not before I get too worried.

Just doesn't feel like our year.

Getting outrebounded 21-13 and with our leading rebounder EJ (today and on the season) looking to be done for the day; shooting 2 of 10 from 3; WMU 9 of 10 from the line including Crump, a 20% shooter on the year, hitting both of his attempts. And yet Ohio is only down a point.

Will AJC get a rebound in the second half? He has 0 boards so far on this abbreviated 2-game road trip.

If Elmore is done for year, we aren’t making Cleveland.

If he’s out for any significant time, this team isn’t making it to Cleveland.

Edit — idk how to delete, but just saw Fear say the same.

Miles Brown needs to step in up. We are just so small. Rebounding is ridiculous.

Really struggling with their size. Wiz with 4 already; we're relying on him a lot this game, and if he fouls out I think it's gonna get ugly in the paint.
