Am in Washington, talked with a miami alum about it, was shocked when I heard. Told her that I might have to wear a redhawk tie in honor of his death, then said on second thought maybe a turtleneck.

I don't think there was a visiting coach at The Convo that was better liked and respected than Charlie. I live in Cincy so I would hear him on local radio or on local television highlight clips. I never switched the channel when he was on.

I know he was loved by many and will be missed by far more.

I'm definitely supportive of a Charlie Coles night this season. I hope marketing makes it happen!

Coach's opening remarks after a triple overtime win against the Bobcats in what would be his last win in the Convo-

But you know what? I was proud to do it with the Bobcats. You guys know how I feel about the Bobcats. I was proud ... It just seemed like; I ain't going to say 'war', that's too stiff, it just seemed like a battle. And as bad as we needed to win, I probably wish I was still out there...

Y'know this is "Ohio - Miami" and I've always said that if this league is going to get real real good, Miami and Ohio have to be real good too. We were playing when some of those schools were Division II schools man. Y'know what I mean?

amen.

MAC should name one of the post season awards after him - Coach of the Year is a no-brainer.

Charlie Coles was truly one of a kind in the coaching profession.  An intense competitor as a player and coach, and one of the great personalities anywhere.  My memories of Charlie go way back to seeing him play in Grover Center for Coach Dick Shrider in some terrific battles with the Jim Snyder led Bobcats.   i was not fortunate enough to have seen him play in high school at Yellow Springs, but have heard many stories about his senior year when he averaged 42 a game  !   Charlie embraced the Miami versus Ohio rivalry, first as a player and then as a coach.  He enjoyed the excitement of Miam at the Convo!
Miami has lost a great coach, and a great leader of men.  The MAC shares in that loss  "Love and Honor" will be heard in Oxford this week, and I bet Charlie would not mind hearing "Stand up and Cheer" just one more time too !  Charlie will be missed by Redskins and Bobcats everywhere..

Great read.  I've been reading every article I can find about Charlie and they all come to the same conclusion but each one tells a different heartwarming story.  The man touched a lot of people.

You know, there aren't many MAC coaches who would get more than a brief obit in the New York Times

I just can’t believe it, man. This guy was great for Miami, The MAC and life. I somehow made it thru the weekend and did not know this happened. Just a sad and empty feeling knowing Charlie has passed to the other side. I hope he brings all he has to the man upstairs. Heaven will be buzzing! Rest in peace my friend.

The author is a Bobcat FYI and a great follow on twitter for Ohio fans.

I had absolutely no idea Jon Greenberg was an Ohio alum.  I come across his Cubs coverage often but never dug deeper or followed him on twitter.  That is pretty cool, even though he comes across as cynical and overly aggressive towards the cubs a lot, particularly ownership...I get the feeling he is being forced to be a Cubs fan.  Is he on BobcatAttack?

Anyway...rest in peace Charlie.  Will always appreciate the nice things he said about our program and our fans.

Talk about a punch to the gut.  Charlie Coles beyond the shadow of a doubt, is one of the few coaches for a rival program/organization, that I would not have minded coaching my fav. squad.

Condolences to his family.  May his soul rest eternally in peace.

Every year Charlie Coles was a reminder that yeah, work hard and know your shit, but this is all supposed to be fun.

Thank you Charlie Coles.

Can't add much to what has already been said here.  Charlie was the best thing to come out of Miami since Benjamin Harrison.  Like others have said, the Miami-Ohio game will not be the same without Charlie on the sidelines.  I support the idea of having a "Charlie Coles" night when Miami next comes to town.  RIP, dear Charlie!

Read Elton Alexander's column about Charlie's funeral.  Great job, Elton!

Unfortunately, circumstances prevented me from attending the services as I had planned.  But I would have loved to have been there.
