Peace be upon your journey, Coach Coles. And, thoughts and prayers to all whom love you.

I will never forget a brief conversation I had with him in the hotel lobby at the Seagate Center when DMac was a pup. He was gracious and treated us like we were the only people in the room. And, yes, we were in full Bobcat gear. He respected and appreciated the game, and, understood the importance of having strong rivals.

Maybe Dan Lowe and Charlie are trading stories on the other side, and, bringing others with a MAC heritage together.

Never forget meeting Charlie at Chuck E. Cheese when we were both with the grandkids.  Very personable and nice guy, even after I told him I was a Bobcat.  One of the class acts in a profession where it is often lacking!

Had to add this in remeberance:

I was very sad to learn of this.  Charlie was one of my favorite figures in all of sports and in life in general.  Always had an upbeat attitude and smile on his face.

Our world is a lesser place with him gone.

Wow, RIP indeed. I can honestly say I have not respected another MAC coach has much as Charlie Coles.

He may have been a rival, but anyone of us would have been proud to have him coach our sons.

The last time I spoke with Charlie in person was at the Gary Trent Day game in 2012. This was where he told me and the group of friends I was with that he compared to O Zone to Duke's Cameron Crazies. His press conference after that game was great too, when he said coming to Athens was always the highlight of his year and how everybody needs to pay attention to what he have in Athens, because it's special. That was as heartfelt as his UK presser was entertaining.

RIP Charlie Coles! Bobcat Nation will miss you!

I think my favorite Charlie quote was after they lost a home game against UC a couple years ago, and he commented on Quinten Rollins' turnovers. "No, Q, remember before the game I told you we are wearing white."

Hope the OZONE and/or OU basketball does something special to remember him when Miami comes to town. R.I.P.

agree with all that's been said here.  No one is perfect, but it is guys like Charlie Coles who show us what coaching should be all about.  Also should be noted that Charlie was one of Ohio's all time great high school players...

He was truly one of a kind.  Fun to watch as a fan; a fierce competitor but still a gentleman and incredibly likeable.  Glad he was around in my lifetime.  We'll miss you, Charlie.

sad day, he will be missed.

I hope we keep him in the rivalry video ("but that Ozone is going to be jumpin'") as a tribute. Heck I'd be in favor of an all out Charlie Coles Appreciation Day for the game this year.

This is truly a sad day.   I was hoping that at some point we could have had a Charlie Coles appreciation day and I would have made sure to bring my three boys there in the hopes of meeting him.  Not a lot of people in sports I would make that trip for but he was one of a kind.   No matter what you think about his coaching, he was a credit to Miami and a credit to this conference.  This one hurts.

Charlie was certainly one of a kind and always approachable.  I hope Miami treats his passing with genuine affection and respect as is evidenced by the comments on B/A.

 We will miss Charlie.
