Seats for students surrounding the baskets for me is a must. Anything to create a more intimidating environment. I am surprised bleachers have not been installed in these areas.
On the one end you have the large door, which I will assume is storage, on the other rend you have the loading tunnel, so not sure of the ability to put up seating around the baskets.

I agree that there are some major limits to what they can do there based on space and doors down there. I don't think they could fit a huge bleacher section, but I think they could do something more permanent than the 3 row "bleachers" that are just wooden sheets with folding chairs on them. Those look tacky and cheap and its hard to convince any diehard student fans to sit there. Something permanent would do wonders for the atmosphere. Even if you only put it up for men's games then tear it down, you could still get a pretty legitimate bleacher section... Yeah, taking it up and putting it down would probably take some labor and $$, but I think we are there as a program.

With the success our hoops team has had lately, I think there is no reason we cannot get the O Zone to fill its bottom section (bleacher section) and 2 endzone sections AND have overflow up into that individual seat section that is below the main concourse. Then you have additional overflow for students (non O-Zone) like they do already in the upper deck.
Yes, that would vary by the opponent somewhat, but if Christian can keep this momentum going like his recruiting success suggests he can this is a crucial time to up the student support to another level. For the biggest games last year, you had to be there an hour early to even get below the concourse level, let alone in the lower bleacher section.

The Convo's atmosphere is EASILY already the best in the MAC and packing in more students under the basket would only further that.

They are putting "Bobcat Black" seats all around the court next year.  Not sure you can put students right behind those seats on the end...and the $700-$900 per seat being paid by ticket holders is surely more important than getting a few more students close to the action.

Not only that, but the Ozone seems to do just fine from where it is. Both Kent and Akron have students right behind the baskets and I'd hardly classify those as better or more intimidating atmospheres.

Did not make many games last year, but how did the "Black" seats workout? We're they filled? I loved the concept.

The black seats have absolutely no impact on the ability to put bleachers in behind the baskets.

The O Zone is awesome on the sideline. The baseline seats are in addition to that... Not like Akron or Kent where their student section is exclusively behind the basket. Two completely different things.

Two ideas I think would work better than students in the behind the hoop potential bleachers:

1.  Easy solution....make them pay seats.  Platinum seats are sold out and gold are pretty packed...this would be close to the action and be similar to silver.

2.  Make them "Lounge Areas"  Almost like a Suite.  Get some high top tables couches.  You would have to play around with the look, but you could almost have 2 ten person suites behind each hoop.  Similar to the touchdown club...Serve food, TV.

Either way you have to make money off them.  That is the only way you will see something happen, and the only way they would be filled our partially filled for the majority of the games.

They were almost sold out last year, if not sold out.  That's why they're expanding.

I would strongly consider buying a suite experience even at a much higher price.

It'll be interesting to see how expanding the seats affects the O Zone's court stormings. Last year I sat in Slavin's Black seat on the end for the Kent game, basically right by where the O Zone stops and the 110 starts. and they (needlessly) rushed the court. Since the seats stopped there, they mostly funneled to the open side, with a some going through the seats on the other side of the table.

If it goes all the way across, the entire O Zone is just going to run over people now. I mean sure, most of the Black seatholders in the line of fire will be prepared for it and will act accordingly, but a) not everyone will, b) they may not be prepared for the enormous increase in O Zoners coming up and over since there is no way around now, and c) not all of the O Zoners will be smart about it and may just barrel directly into them (issue coming from the sheer number coming straight through, and not around, again)

There's a small space between the table and the black seats at the other side too. Frequently a photographer will sneak in there and kneel down for a few shots. I have the first seats not behind the table and was down there for one of the court stormings. It wasn't a real scary thing, they just basically went in between the open space. Randomly when it was done there was a full DP Dough calzone in front of me at my feet.

I hope the O Zone is bigger and better this year and causes the need for the bleachers behind the baskets. It can only help the atmosphere.

I'm excited that there is demand enough to get more black seats and boost the contribution $ a bit. Bobcat hoops is on the rise again and it's a really fun time to be a fan. Probably just as much fun to be a student or player as well.

I mean... To walk to Peden/Convo with the expectation that we're going to win... That wasn't the case just a few years ago..

I'm in complete agreement.  A couple "suites" behind the baskets would be a great idea. I think having them on a game by game basis might even be ideal.  Who wouldn't want to try that at least once?

I like the suite/club seat idea. I would prefer that to student seating due to the revenue possibilities and the lack of any suites or club seats in the Convo.

The way I imagine club/suites, space could be more of an issue for this idea. You could easily fit seats in, but I'm not sure how much room there would be for lounge space you typically imagine with those seats. I also think if you're going to do it right, that is probably a little more expensive and less portable than additional student bleachers.

Either way, I'd like to see us do something in that space. There is some room to do something behind the Bobcat Black and it is prime location. It cam certainly be utilized better than it is now.

Renovations at the Convo seem to be upcoming, maybe suites can be incorporated.
