You still don't get it, Jeff.   The Convo is not just for college basketball.  It regularly is filled to the rafters for graduations and occasionally for high school tournament games.  You are not going to see any significant reduction in seating capacity.  What we need is a regular increase in butts in the seats for OHIO basketball.  I'm optimistic that this will happen and JC seems very much committed to building our program, and I suspect will not take the first train out of Dodge when he reaches a high level of success with the Bobcats. Though he's much younger than Solich, I think he shares with Frank an understanding that you can have more fun building a lower profile program into a bigger profile one than dealing with all the hassles that come with a Big Time head coaching job.  You are given more time and folks are more forgiving of the glitches and hickups along the way.  GO OHIO!

High school basketball doesn't even use all the seats. I agree they won't decrease capacity, but is graduation really enough to say they can't? One weekend a year? Arrangements could be made if they took out 3,000 or so seats.

OCF, you may be correct that the administration won't consider decreasing Convo capacity...but many other schools have gone that route in refurbishing existing convocation building facilities.  I'd say at least some of them also use those buildings for graduations and other convocations, so they must have some strategies for dealing with the lower capacities.

As for the HS tournaments...they roll back the bleachers and just use mid and upper levels, as you know.  There have been some big crowds in there, but to my knowledge they've never sold it out, and most of the time there are plenty of open seats even when there is good attendance.  I think your concerns about graduation are a lot more well founded than your concerns about HS tournaments.  Reducing capacity to 10,500 would have absolutely no impact on the HS tournaments.

How many seats are there after the bleachers are rolled back? 10,000? 9,000? 8,000? You get that much for a high school tournament game and there is probably a guy by the name of LeBron James or OJ Mayo on one of the teams. It's hard for high schools to fill gyms. Even state championship games at the Schott don't always fill, and that's bringing people from around the entire state to watch.

Had nearly 10K a few years back when Dante Jackson's Greenfield McClain team played Logan Elm.  Warren Local vs Athens last year also drew a significant crowd .

Well, maybe in this state......

I recently made a stop into the Indiana BBall HOF - saw a display with this........pretty incredible. I grew up near Richmond, knew the gym was big, but it never sunk in when younger just how big a HS BBall stage it was. They should prolly put a dozen expensive "Red Devil Hot Seats" folding chairs around the floor to get past Seymour and into the #3 slot................
