One thing you have to keep in mind about the NBA summer league. They need bodies to play the games. Getting an invite to play, while better than a sharp stick in the eye, still makes you a extreme long shot to make a roster. Earl Boykins comes to mind in a situation like this. He wasn't drafted, but he showed them something and kicked around the league for a long time, putting up some impressive numbers in many of his years. Maybe DJ can raise some eyebrows.
I looked at Orlando's box score from this morning. They had something like 10 DNP-CD and only like 7 who actually played. I just like to see a good showing from anyone in the MAC, especially DJ

After being allergic to whistles in college, he's getting nailed with fouls in summer league at an alarming rate. He needs to figure adjustments out and fast.

looked pretty clear that the Sixer coach plans on playing Carter-Williams regardless if he has 6 turns in a half or shoots 3-16 like he did today.

Marshall was the only player for both teams that played but didn't scored. He looked lost, timid, and skinny.

To be expected - they don't care about winning or losing, just getting him minutes.  Rest of the guys there are to take up space on the floor.

Translation: he looked tall and worthless.

D.J. will not play in the 76ers final games.  Evidently Golden State wanted him to begin practice ASAP and the 76ers allowed him to leave.  He tweeted yesterday that he was on his way to Vegas.

Carter-Williams needs it.  I watched part of the game last night and he looked godawful.  He couldn't beat his man off the dribble, he couldn't shoot and he looked slow and indifferent on defense.   I don't think I saw one pass from him that hit a man in the hands where he could do a thing with it.  Philly has to be a little worried after watching his performances so far.

Carter-Williams played 33 minutes today, 3-10, 1-2 from 3, 4-8 FT, 8 TO, 11pts. Not impressed. Other guards that played- T Leslie 18 minutes, 1-3, 0-4 FT, 2pts; K Wyatt 13 minutes, 0-3, 0-1, 4-6 FT, 4pts. SIxers lost, now 0-4. Glad DJ is outta there and in Vegas. Zeke didn't play again, doesn't appear to have an invite to Vegas either.

Carter-Williams will be an All Star in this league.

He has alot of work to do but I see some Penny Hardaway in him.

Nemanja Nedovic, the 30th pick in the draft and  pg for the Warriors, was injured in practice yesterday. He might miss all of the Summer League. Expect to see a lot more DJ Cooper because of this. He might even start.

Looks likea long road... and there area number of guys coming in the next few years who will be taking aim at the spot he presently is aspiring to fill. You have first hand knowledge of his work ethic and drive?

How tall is Carter-Williams?  How many years of college ball did he play (not just on team, but play)?

He's listed at 6'6"  185 lbs.  He left Syracuse after his sophomore season...only averaged about 10 mins per game as a Freshman.  He started all 39 games for Syracuse last year and averaged 12 pts 7 apg 5 rpg.

Durant was pretty awful his first few summer league games too.

It is silly to suggest that Philadelphia should have benched a young lottery pick for an undrafted point guard who last we saw him had his own turnover and shooting issues.

I like and support Cooper just like everyone else here, but we need to be realistic. Go to Europe, work on being more efficient with the basketball, continue to get stronger and a Brian Roberts-type opportunity might come along down the line. Chances are slim, but that is the life of an undersized player with no true marquee skill (at the pro level) trying to get into the NBA. Fortunately, plenty of money is out there outside of the NBA, and someone will pay him.

These teams aren't playing him in the televised games just because. I have no doubt he is getting plenty of opportunities in workouts and practices that are being conducted each and every day.

He made the highlight package with a nice pass in the lane for a dunk.  I think it's pretty safe to say that Europe is calling.

Coop played around 6 minutes on Monday but it was in 3, two minute bursts, not really enough time to get settled in. Was able to stay in for longer stretches Tuesday and played better. His defense is good but some of the speedier PGs are getting past him in the lane, his offense is very conservative, looks to pass, not aggressive with the shot. He had about 4 or 5 good drives into the lane that end with a bounce pass to a big for a layup but eventually the defense adjusted when they figured out he wasn't going to drive and take the shot.

had a good segment where he made a tough defensive play that got the announcers' attention, they began talking about him and started to dive into his bio but were interrupted when DJ made another strong play on offense. at his best the team was anticipating his passes better than before and the offense flowed well but he's going to have to get aggressive as a shooter if wants to make an impression.

DJ played 5+ minutes last night. He had 2 rebounds, an assist, and a turnover. Not a very favorable +/-, but the Warriors ended up rallying to win.

They play again, Saturday at 10 pm against the Lakers.

Cooper played 6 minutes thursday night in a come from behind win vs Dallas. He was 0-0 with 1 ast, 2 rebs,  1 TO. He got pulled when down by 7 he got caught in a pick and roll and recovered by fouling the 3 point shooter. He would have had several more assists if the shots were made but most of those passes were when Coop was wide open for his own shot and didn't take it.

Its weird watching him play hot potato with the ball, he gets rid of it as soon as possible and even when he pulls up and has an open look he passes it. Had a couple of good drives into the lane but kicked it out. I think he's so concerned about missing a shot that he doesn't want to take one that would be deemed a "bad shot". The defense knows he's not going to shoot and plays him accordingly.

His ball handling and defense is still pretty good and his bounce pass is a thing of beauty but its just so bizarre to see DJ Cooper with the aggressiveness of Ivo Baltic.

The other PGs are guys that were undrafted a year ago and spent a year in D-league most of the time. Machado is the starter, he plays about 20min/gm is 5-31, 1-10 from 3 but is pretty active. Starting 2 guard, Bazemore slides over and plays PG as well and he plays about 30min/gm and avgs 18pts/gm.

DJ's stats in Vegas are- 3gms, 27min, 0 pts, 0-3, 0-1 from 3, 0-0 FT, 4reb, 5ast, 1stl, 6to, 4pf.

Coop can still create space for himself and is good off the dribble but I think at this point he probably needs a year in the D league or overseas to feel more comfortable playing at this level. After being the man for the last 7 or 8 years being the last guy off the bench can be an adjustment.

That's harsh.  Vivid, understood, and probably warranted, but still harsh.
