According to Twitter is on his way to Portland to meet with the Trail Blazers.

DJ Cooper has moved all the way up to #60 on Chad Ford's big board. He talks to a lot of NBA guys when he does this list, so it actually means something.

Zeke Marshall is ranked #84 if anyone cares.

So 60 would mean drafted, correct?

Edit: just saw the 2nd round/undrafted note...

D.J. getting a workout with the Washington Wizards tomorrow.  My youngest would be overjoyed if he were to end up in Washington.

This question was posted in Chad Ford's chat yesterday on espn.com.  Looks like I may be staying up for the entire draft, although if the Cavs pick Noel, I might be throwing a brick through my TV.

Chris Manning (Ohio)

What do you think of Ohio University point guard D.J. Cooper?

Chad Ford
  (1:51 PM)

A sleeper. Has worked out really well. Some teams have him ranked highly on their analytics scores. Interesting prospect as a second round pick.

PLAYER UPDATES

April 13 Update: Cooper might be undersized, but he's earned interest from teams interested in a super quick point guard who can get into the teeth of the defense and either finish or distribute. He needs to be a better shooter, but made strides as a senior. A potential second round pick.

Player Evaluations By Chad Ford

Overall Rank 59
Position Rank 15
Hollinger PER 22.64
Projection Second Round Pick/Undrafted
Positives
  • Super quick guard
  • Excellent penetrating guard
  • Good at creating for others
Negatives
  • Undersized for his position
  • Poor shot selection/turnover prone

My guess is when it's all said and done, for those of us who got to watch DJ for four years up close and in person 15 to 20 times a year, we really don't know how good we had it for this most recent run of Bobcat excellence.

He sounds perfect as a backup point guard for the right NBA team.

He's had what counting four team workouts including Orlando tomorrow? Portland, Golden State, Washington, and Orlando?

I agree. Beyond being a great player for our team, he was a lot of fun to watch. Even after having watched him for 4 years, I would still be amazed by some of the passes he would make... "How did he see that?"

Glad to hear Coop is impressing the scouts so far. I guess our friend from Akron is having a little tougher go of it. According to the zips board someone quoted an article that said Marshall "has been inconsistent in his private workouts and left a few team scouts disappointed."

Zeke's mom replied with "Or PERHAPS just PERHAPS his inconsistency came from him being physically and mentally EXHAUSTED after doing back to back to back workouts with NO REST except his plane ride. Hey....what a CRAZY, BIZARRE and DELUSIONAL thought that only his "mother" could think of! CRAZY ME!!! "

I hope scouts don't read message boards. To their credit, some of the other zips fans pushed back pretty hard reminding her that frequent games and air travel are a regular occurrence in the NBA and there's no excuses.

funny stuff.

Good stuff from ESPN again today. Kevin Pelton ranked the top 100 draft prospects using some advanced analytics created by John Hollinger (currently working with Grizzlies).

Link: http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/draft2013/story/_/page/PerDiem-130624/ranking-prospects-warp

DJ Cooper is 2nd in WARp among players projecting outside the first round.

Here's the top 20 in the whole draft. DJ checks in at #8 in the whole draft.

The Wizards with 2 unrestricted FA PGs on the roster and 3 draft picks with one at #58 is starting to seem very realistic for Coop.

You would think so, but I think they will either trade those picks or draft players they can stash overseas.  If they do draft college players, I think they will draft guys they can send to the D-league for the year.

The GM has basically come out and said that they do not anticipate having more than 1 rookie on the roster this year

"D.J. Cooper completed his fourth NBA pre-draft workout with the Orlando Magic on Monday"

From the lead in the article, did he really work out four times with Orlando or is this just awkward phrasinig?

Awkward phrasing. Worked out for Portland, Golden St. and Washington prior to Orlando.
