Based on Arkley's article, I'm pretty happy with the way this schedule is shaping up--with the exception of no game vs. Marshall. Hope the Herd is back on the schedule the following season.
We have some really nice opponents at home.
Wow, I must respectfully disagree with you, Jeff. All I see are a couple of OK opponents in UMASS and Valpo on the home schedule. UMASS is at least has a name that sounds important (rather than a directional state school) and casual fans may recognize Valpo. But the other schools? Snore....Does anybody really think that because Northern Iowa went to the CIT semis that they're an interesting team?
Look, I know it's tough to get anyone to come to Athens (which is why it will be very, very difficult to get this team to the "next level" no matter who we recruit). But we must do better! Schaus and Christian need to be creative, get down on their knees and beg if they have to, and get at least 1 "name" school in every year. What will it take to get Xavier here, just once? How about Dayton? Pester 'em until they're tired of taking yr calls. Be creative! Davidson will have 2 kids from Columbus on the team for the next couple years...call Coach McKillop and remind him that the convo is less than 90 mins from Cbus! St Joes will have a kid from Dublin and a coach in Martelli that even casual fans may have heard of...have we called him? And dang it, drive over to Illinois and camp on John Groce's doorstep until he agrees to come here for 1 game...this is a no brainer.
All of this is right off the top of my head...I KNOW there are other opportunities out there, I just don't know how aggressively we are going after them...Schaus and Christian have all sorts of friends in the business and must be owed at least one or two favors...time to call 'em in.
