Yes I know this is ridiculously early, but I like talking Ohio Basketball, so I thought I'd throw this out there.  I know last years games finished the Bobby Mo, Winthrop and St. Bonnies series.  The Oakland series too I think. I'm assuming the Belmont return game would be the 2014-2015 season. After removing the buy games, I can only think of two games for next year for sure. I'm sure we have some Morgan State and Maryland Eastern Shores lined up. Anyone know of any other games?

Home Games - Northern Iowa,

Road Games - UNC-Ashville, Richmond?, Marshall?

Possibilities?

I know Aaron works hard and scheduling isn't easy, but I saw the teams below post on basketball travelers message board looking for games next year and thought they were interesting. I didn't list them all, just some I thought were reasonable / attainable.

Home and Home series
  • College of Charleston  - Start in Charleston.
  • DePaul - Home or away to start
  • Drexel - Start Home or away
  • Duquesne - Must start away from Pitt.
  • George Mason - Start away.
  • Indiana State - Start in Terra Haute.
  • Middle Tennessee State - Home or away to start
  • Northeastern University - start either at home or on the road

Guarantee Games
  • Ohio State - looking for one game
  • Dayton - looking for multiple guarantee games
  • Maryland - looking for a guarantee game to be played in College Park
  • Notre Dame - Looking for a few guarantees for 2013-2014 season.
  • Cincinnati - Offering a competitive guarantees (also offering a home and home but know that wouldn't happen)

Tournaments
  • St. Mary's - Looking for teams for the 2013 Shamrock Classic. 4 teams. 2 games each.
  • Delaware - looking for 3 teams. Each team will play each other.
  • UTEP - Don Haskins Sun Bowl Tournament is looking for teams

Is there a chance we get Belmont in 2013-14 instead of 2014-15? I know the rationale for not scheduling Bracketbuster return games the following season was tor prevent teams from having to play two road games in a season as a result of Bracketbuster. Now that it's over, I could see teams wanting get all of their return games over with next season and move on.

Of all the games on there that we should be playing annually, I'd check off UD and UC.  I'm not sure what the opponents opinions would be on that, but I don't see how not playing us makes sense for UD, and with the dissolution of the Big East, now, Cincinnati.  I don't pretend to know RPI implications for wining or losing against us but in all other ways it makes sense from a fan's perspective, and inexpensive travel for the teams.

Ohio State will never play us under Thad, so scratch that off the conversation.  He's said it a number of times, and it's off the table.

I'd be all for Depaul anytime we could play them. Big name that's down, but eventually they'll be back, and will be a good game.

Drexel at this point does nothing for us. 3-4 years ago, I'd have been all about that.

Duquesne or Indiana State are both games I think would be good one for Ohio, along with George Mason with the move to the A10.

The last one on my list:  because my family lives in Charleston, I'd be all over a game versus the Cougars, especially in Charleston.

My hope, just like most of this board, is that we can get one home game in December against someone who is a draw for the fans, as well as a nice RPI boost with a win.  It'd be nice to see the program have the funds to give a guarantee game to a decent opponent.  Maybe we're not there now, but it is something that seems to be necessary for "the next step, or next level".

This probably won't happen in time for '13-'14, but I mentioned this as a possibility for a football home-and-home series, and if we could get a basketball H&H with all three service academies in the next decade, I think that'd be awesome!

I think that was just because of Groce. There is no reason not to play us now, OSU usually plays 1 or 2 MAC teams a year at home. I would jump on that game

Selfishly, I'd love to see a series against Drexel, since I live exactly 1.5 miles from campus.

While their at it, OHIO should play Villanova, Temple, La Salle (no seriously, that'd be an exciting match up), Penn, and St. Joe's.

I'd be in favor of playing at Penn simply so our guys can say they played at The Palestra.

I jog by there and Franklin Field multiple times a week and it never gets less awesome. Even being physically close to those buildings is such a cool feeling, knowing all the sports history that has taken place in them.

I know UC basketball and UC football are two different animals, but I think it is worth noting we scheduled them for a home and home later this decade in football. So we at least know there is a relationship there...

Wasn't some guaranteed buy games to bring teams in to play in Athens part of Christians contract? I seem to remember that going along with the use of the plane for some road games. I could be off on that, though..

Hopefully this is true.  Having a big home game or two on the calendar in Nov/Dec would be nice.

I see UC just scheduled a football game in the Big House vs Mich for something just above $1mil.  Part of the deal is a home and home b-ball series.  Have we tried that approach?

Yes, it was. But "guaranteed buy games" means paying the likes of Maryland Eastern Shore, Hampton, etc. at the Convo for one-and-dones. It doesn't mean we're bringing in Pitt or something...

If Pitt requires a home and home, I am OK with that.  Even if I would prefer a home-away-home.

As I was asking before I found this thread:

It's mid May, and after a month and a half "off" from hoops, I'm getting the bug to get back on the road to Athens for a game.  That said, sometime in the summer we usually have a thread with the speculation about the upcoming OOC schedule.  Anyone out there with news on what games are ahead?  Obviously we saw rumor about Ohio A&M.

Basketball travelers has a post from Aaron Fuss looking for a guarantee game Dec 30 in Athens. Only post on there this year.  There's also a request from Hawaii for home games. Anyone up for a road trip?

First off, when I was a kid growing up in that area, no one was jogging in that neighborhood.  Sprinting, yes, jogging no.  Perhaps things have changed.

I agree with the original post about a game in The Palestra....attended a high school game there years ago and it was awesome.  Similar look and feel as Butler's gym, but with the east coast smell.

Why the hell are you playing at Morgan State?  Were the other 10 or so schools in the DC, VA, MD area not open to a game?

My guess would be morgan state is a home and home.  I don't see what is wrong with scheduling that game...it is better than paying a crap team to come play us....

I'm not sure I like the 18-game MAC schedule (even without divisions).  It just means that we have two fewer opportunities for scheduling good OOC teams (yes, I know, it hasn't happened as often as we'd like anyway) and lessens the opportunity for the MAC to become a two-bid league in the NCAA Tourney.  The only way for the MAC to improve its standing vis-a-vis other conferences is to play -- and beat -- good OOC teams.  The MAC is hurting itself with more conference games.
