Zeke Marshall didn't even manage to play in any friendly game with WKS Slask Wroclaw before release.

daaaaamn. gone after 2 weeks, didn't even get on the court for a friendly game. That's a kid that never wanted to be 7 feet tall.

She's probably composing an all-caps letter of protest at this very moment...

It's almost like Zeke is not really motivated to play and someone else is pushing him to do something he really doesn't want to do, but he is so close to the person who is pushing him and he doesn't want to crush that person's dream so he can't verbally express his true feelings to the pusher.

There was an article in the Beacon Journal last year that basically posited that Zeke only has a passion for one thing: computers. It certainly appears that his mother has been the driving influence in his athletic career. I've heard that she had several stern talks with him outside the locker room at halftime and following games.  Now that she's apparently not going to be the next Gloria James, perhaps Zeke can take direction of his own life.

If that his his real passion, vs BBall, then he should roll w/it. And I wish him all the success in the world. Hope mama Zeke gets w/the program - what mamas supposed to do. If he was only "half in" his MAC/'Kron career - makes that career even the more impressive.

Yeah - I said that about a lot of "tall" Bobcats over the last 35 or so years. "Throwing stones in glass buildings" not real productive........

Hey, Zeke was an adequate MAC center and that's all Akron needed to be very successful in the league during his time there. He was what he was. Not a NBA player, neither was DJ. Move on, brothers.

For all that we rip him, Dambrot and all that is 'Kron...Zeke was a well above-average center by MAC standards. I'd definitely argue top 10 all-time. His shot blocking ability altered gameplans, and he had the ability to take over a game on occasion. We did not have a solution for him last season whatsoever. I'm very glad to see him graduate.

I agree. People like to rip on him (and some of it is merited) but he sure made Ohio look bad at times. He made a big impact on defense and was a good offensive player. I think he probably was a good teammate, too.

This, like our lack of chemistry last year, is an 'eyeballs' thing.  I looked at Marshall and wondered how he didn't absolutely dominate the MAC (how many other legit 7-footers in conf) in the same way that there was just something not there, some lack of coordination on the 'Cats last year (the sum turning out to be less than the apparent pieces).

He can probably make more money working with computers than playing b-ball anyway.  And if it makes him happy, all the better.  She should realize that his pro ball career wouldn't last long anyway, and let him do something he wants.

Here are 3 tweets from Momma Zeke after the cut was announced-

"Be careful judging something when u don't have all the facts!"

"People are so funny...1 min ur cheering the next ur criticizing. ..=Unstable"

"There is nothing more satisfying than having a ! BOOM! I didn't choose thug life...thug life choose ME!"

this one is from right before it was announced-

"Rollin on my Momager grind today! &GettinItDone"

I left out the tweets in between, she apparently enjoyed the Michael Buble concert.

Rick Hoffman, Asa Jewett, Marion Bota would be three that come to mind who could not hold Zeke's jock strap.

His mom sounds like the type of parent to chase an umpire with a bat at a little league game.  The dude is a grown man... sheesh.  She should be proud of him, especially considering the route he has taken in comparison to other routes he could have taken like other teammates I won't mention.

Agreed.  Obviously not the same thing but Walt Offutt passed up a pretty lucrative short term career in Europe to start a long term one here in the States.  I know our natural reaction is to rag on anything Akron but if Zeke Marshall has a passion other than basketball he should pursue it. He seems like a bright kid. Hopefully he'll use the education that basketball provided him.
