They were definitely added later than the first few, but I'm fairly sure they've been there since the start of the season. I believe I recall them being in the photos of the new turf installation, at the very least.

Did DJ graduate?

And we have had a few members of our HoF who earned their degrees from another institution, the most famous of which would be Moe Banton who is actually an Akron graduate.

I believe only two from the fantastic 4 graduated and they were Ivo and Walt.  I was really disappointed in Reggie and DJ for not finishing. So there maybe a long wait to see a number 5 in the rafters.  I completely agree with the policy of having a degree.  Trent graduated from somewhere else but he is on record saying he wished it was from Ohio.

Well, I guess I'm getting old and blind. I swear they weren't there a few weeks ago. Thanks for posting the photos.
No one will disagree.

I saw his twitter comment. I'll blame it on his youth. It seems to me that his priorities are a little mixed up. He should have graduated and gotten to his life's work, then, MAYBE, he gets some recognition in the future for his accomplishments.

There is the answer. Gots to gradjustate to gets yer numma in a raffers.....

And I like most schools traditions of just hanging numbers in recognition.

Did I miss where DJ said he thought his number should be retired?  Personally, I think they should have at least waited a year before they gave it to somebody else.  I only saw the tweet where he said he was disappointed. Frankly, I am disappointed as well.

I thnk most athletes think the same thing. During recruiting EVERY athlete has a number they want. I do not think I have ever heard any program saying to an athlete....."no, you can't have that one"...not that it is a bad thought but I don't see it happening in the current world of athletics.

DJ can't complain too loudly though since he did the same thing to Leon Williams.

Wait a year to give his number out? That's just plain silly. He was a great player for us and it's time to move on.

+1. Love DJ, but that's quite hypocritical.

And didn't I once read that college basketball players need to have a number that has each digit between 0-5 so that the refs can note the number with one hand? That would then mean there are only 30 such jersey numbers available (0-5, 10-15, 20-25, 30-35, 40-45, 50-55). With 14 guys currently on the roster, that exhausts about half of the possible number choices. To retire a number sounds nice on the surface, but when you start retiring numbers, you really limit the possibilities for the future. Also, whether this is just a coincidence or not, rarely do OHIO players take numbers above 25. Since 2007, only five have done so that I could find: 30-Keely, 32-Nagtzaam (about the only OHIO place of note for him), 33-Tillman and 33-Antonio Campbell this year, 44-Sayles.

That means that between 0-25, there are 18 possible choices. We cannot afford to eliminate any numbers from that list. Instead, make 5 a jersey of prominence. Instead of maybe a captain's C, how about the captain wear #5? It could kind of be something of significance.

Letters are also allowed.  I'm surprised that no one uses them.

For anyone who needs evidence as to why jerseys shouldn't be retired, but only honored, should only look at the Dean Smith Center rafters. Just about every number ever used is up there.

Granted, some of them are actually retired.

There are 36 possible jersey numbers, not 30. That also does not include the rare #00.

Solid NIU win today means no one gets fired?

That's disappointing.

I'm firing the 110 tubas or the person who placed the camera right behind them.  Whenever they stood up with them you couldn't see anything.  I'll have to flip a coin to decide.

I heard that won;t be the case most of the year. Full band today forced the tubas up high....still that tripod has to have a bit of a way to adjust it up a bit. Northern Iowa board was complaining about the same thing in game. They loved our feed and ahd good things to say about Russ.

This week I think I 'd fire the the person who thoguth up the sleeping bag race. Brutal. ....oh ...and the UNI coach who seemd to want to spend the entire time discussing every possession with the ref rather than coaching his team. GOod gosh....the rulebook interpretations meetings are done. COach your damn team.

I did not have to watch the feed so cannot comment except to say..jeez that should be fixable.

Agree with bornacatfan, sleeping bag race at football and now at BB game is pretty lame and the coach with a running conversation with the refs was pretty bad.  We said the same thing in our section during the game: "Why doesn't he just coach?"

The discussions with the ref were non-stop. He was focused waaaay too much on that, IMO. Would drive me crazy if I were a UNI fan.
