100%Cat and Pomery are two great examples of why there is no reason to run off people that root for OSU.  Some people on this board just don't get it and will always be bitter to anyone who they don't think matches their Bobcat pride.  Instead of making the half and half fans out to be the devil...why not try to slowly turn them to 75-25?  That seems to be what has happened with Pomeroy and 100%Cat....

If I see a kid walking around campus with a Ohio State shirt on I don't think much of it sometimes I'll give them a "Go Bucks!"

Please don't.

I hate the arrogance of the OSU fanbase. I despise the blatant disrespect their entire organization has for our school, the one actually named Ohio. I hate the attitude that because I was born in Ohio I owe it to the great state of Ohio to root for OSU. It's almost like they think, "We're all in this together. Us (Ohioans) vs. the other 49 states in a battle for state supremacy and OSU is the team we all root for." This same fanbase is only proud of the BCS wins and Final Fours.

I actually respect OSU as an institution. They have two very high quality men leading their football and basketball programs. The school has made incredible strides in the academic arena. One could argue that they have passed up Ohio in most areas of study. They are a machine as a university right now. Hell, if I get cancer I want to go to James because they are great at what they do. In spite of all this, it's still not the school I went to. I can respect the institution, yet separate out all their tailgate-only supporters.

We are definitely affected negatively as a school when our own alumni choose to spend their money supporting another university. I am sad that I know several people that graduated from Ohio, yet have not been back to Athens since the day they got their diploma. They join the herd of OSU sheep to root for all things Buckeyes. They donate $0 to the OU Foundation because they have to save up and try to get seats next to the sun for one game a year in the C Deck. What amazes me is that the times Ohio has actually been given the privilege of playing the almighty Buckeyes over the past couple decades, the Bobcats have more than held their own in both football and basketball. Just imagine how different our culture would be if people actually supported the school they went to.

I love and support the school I attended. I've got too many other things going on in my life to spend time and energy trying to justify the order in which I root for my teams. I watch a lot of games on tv and find a lot of teams interesting, but I am loyal to the one I love.

This story takes the cake. My wife's cousin was married a few years ago in Columbus. He and his wife are both Ohio graduates. At the wedding reception, all the favors were scarlet and grey. They played "Hang On Sloopy" and chanted and even played the OSU fight song. When they had their first child, the Christmas card photo had them all wearing OSU gear.

All I can say is that it must be some psychotic herd mentality if you live in Columbus, with a dash of inferiority complex.

Yeah, that's really strange and unfortunate. Their Ohio degrees should be taken away from them.

I agree with the inferiority complex point. It's definitely true.

Some say they were brainwashed.  Others say it was peer pressure.  I tend to think, the Devil made 'em do it.

I personally do not loathe the Bobcat/Buckeye fans that post on this board.  Obviously you have great respect and love for our school.  I feel you are the exception not the rule of Buckeye/Bobcat fans being discussed.  I understand it is hard to stop liking something you have liked since you were seven.

There are only two accomplishments in my life that I am more proud of then my degree from Ohio University.  That is my two children and my wife.  Anytime somebody mistakes my alma mater with another school, I find it insulting.  Most often Ohio is mistaken for Ohio State.  It is disrespectful to the institution I love; it is disrespectful to my fellow alumni and to the current student.  Rooting against your alma mater is spitting in the face of the students that represent you, your fellow alumni and ultimately yourself.

Since I live a great distance from Ohio, I feel as if I am an ambassador for Ohio University.  I take great pride in explaining the many rich traditions our university has to offer.  I have had more than one information pack sent to potential students and I was actually successful in recruiting a student to Ohio that did not know any information about the university if was not for me.

Ultimately we are paying for the mistake of our fathers with the Ohio brand and the use of our name in connection to Ohio State generations ago.  Does any other state in the union have this problem?  I think the answer is no.  Just because there is a historical connection with certain cheers and band formations doesn’t make it right.  Plenty of other schools have had to change things that it has had a historical connection to because it was wrong.  That fact Ohio State does not see a problem is where I have a problem.  We all have had dealings with the fans of Ohio State so we all have the horror stories.  Personally this is why I have a problem with Ohio State the institution and their fans.

Why is this practice of rooting for another school is acceptable on the college level but not on the high school level?  Would anybody openly root against their own high school?

I hate those smug jerks at the jr institution.

Those who attend OHIO and give to other schools--can ya get more tasteless.

I think that the % of our alumni who do donate is sadly, pitiably low, especially in light of the affinity our alumni have for OHIO relative to the 'whatever' that most people feel for their schools.

That's why I put my money where my heart is...Athens, OHIO.  I hope you do, too.

Most of this thread is filled with pure craziness and fear, and as an old green wise one said a long time ago:

Yoda: Anger, fear, aggression; the dark side of the Force are they. Easily they flow, quick to join you in a fight. If once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny, consume you it will, as it did Gov. Hayes apprentice.
O-Luke: Ohio State... Is the dark side stronger?
Yoda: No, no, no. Quicker, easier, more seductive.
O-Luke: But how am I to know the good side from the bad?
Yoda: You will know... when you are calm, at peace, passive. A Jedi uses the Force for knowledge and defense, NEVER for attack.
O-Luke: But tell my why I can't...
Yoda: No, no! There is no "why".
