Oz - is there any buzz in the Columbus area about this game at all? I went on Bucknuts earlier today and no one is talking about it. It's almost like the game is an afterthought. I guess that's a given during football season, but still...

You nailed it.  Very few will care until after football season is over.  And while some people on this board want to make this into a rivarly game, it's not.  Big opportunity for the Cats, though.

I will add that the talking heads on the radio have been overly complementary towards the Bobcats, and they all believe this is a good test for the Buckeyes before the head to Marquette next weekend.  70% of the employees at 97.1 are apparently Ohio alums, so I've always found them to be pro-Bobcats, especially during our tourney run.

At least the idiot that started the thread didn't say he was an alum.  He attended Ohio.

Good point! It still makes my stomach turn though!

I'm guessing the line will open around OSU -13.  Bad matchup for our Bobcats.  4 of OSUs 5 starters are back, and the one new guy to the starting lineup is likely headed to the NBA after the season.

I'd feed NDour early and often, and hope his athleticism can get Amir Williams into foul trouble.  The one thing the Bucks do not have is frontcourt depth.  Amir is the only true 5 on their team.  After that, it's Trey McDonald, a sophomore that has not seen extensive playing time, and last year's Ohio Mr. Basketball, Marc Loving, a freshman who is a more natural 4.  That's the matchup to exploit.

I thought Stevie looked great on Saturday.  He's gonna need to do it again.  OSU may have the best defensvie backcourt in the country.

Line opens at Ohio State -20

If we want our athletic program to be relevant nationally the basketball game is more important.  Not only will it make sportscenter but it will be a signature win for Christian and staff.  It will help establish the program.  Beating $tate helps a recruit like Owens feel good about his decision.  It is very true that in scope of this season it probably means little but for the Ohio brand it is one of the biggest games in recent memory.  This is our chance to give the finger to state, their administration, and their arrogant fans.  When we win, we will have recently beaten the two institutions that disrespects our name the most in Ann Arbor and $tate.  If we want the Ohio brand to be taken seriously, this is a game we need to win.
I know the BG game is important for this season's success.  I know the football team should want revenge against BG.  You know what we will play BG next year in football and most likely it will have some MAC East  title implications.  We have won bowls the last 2 years.  We play $tate every 20 years in basketball. Crack the nuts and beat $tate!

Bingo.

We have won the MAC East a couple times now in football. We won the MAC last year in hoops.

I REALLY want to win the MAC in football. In the grand scheme of the program, wins over big-name programs does more for the Ohio Bobcats brand than a regular season conference championship.

Beating Penn State in football past year did zero for any "championships" for us. That win will still go down as one of the most important in program history. It made national waves. It also made waves among students and alumni. Wins like that change the "not a sports school" culture.

Beating Ohio State tomorrow would be beyond huge. We would have a rowdy atmosphere in the Convo this season if that happened. We've already taken a huge cultural step with our tournament success. Beating little brother would be monumental. Georgetown changed everything. This game can do the same.

Go Bobcats!

-20? That's a bit much I think... Gotta believe the  'Cats will cover, if for no other reason than our length and defensive pressure.

I think Nature Boy gives them all kinds of match up problems. I think we have enough size and athleticism to stay with the Buckeyes, my worry comes down to our generally inexperienced PGs going up against Craft and Scott and OSUs defensive pressure. If we can avoid turnovers and shoot a decent percentage from 3, we can win this game

So if we win tommorrow, can we count on having to wait another 20 years or so before OSU schedules us again?

Very basic write up from the Dispatch. They must of forgot JC was the coach last year and won the MAC in his first season

While I believe NDour versus either Amir or Ross is the matchup to watch, I hardly agree that he will pose "all kinds of matchup problems."  Ross is every bit as quick.  Amir is not, but he's got size on Maurice.

20 points is a lot to lay, so I would take them...but I wouldn't feel good about it at all.  The Bobcats are outmatched at every position.  I want to see our guards take care of the ball.  If they have less than 10 combined TOs, I will be impressed.  That's the key to keeping it close, as I think points out of the half court will be hard to come by.

I'm watching both -- OHIO vs. BG on my TV via AppleTV's WatchESPN app, and OHIO vs. A&M on my iPad via the B1G network app called BTN2Go.  To me they are both big games.  Win either one and I'll be happy.  Win both, and I'll be on a month-long high and will totally insufferable at Thanksgiving with my wife's relatives in Cowtown.

That is a terrible write-up. Goodness, the Dispatch has gone downhill. And it wasn't that great to begin with.

I'm going to be running a similar setup. Football on the TV via Apple TV. Basketball on my computer monitor via my laptop and BTN.com.

For those without BTN access, First Row Sports has a link to the game.

OSU's guards are really gonna be an issue here...we could not stop dribble penetration on Saturday, and that's Crafts and Scott's game....the key is to take away their right hands which I hope is a point of emphasis..but this year they are a penetration team to get to the rim or kick for threes..they have nobody with a midrange game.

To be fair to the Dispatch, the link above goes to a preview by SportsDirect Inc.  I'm guessing its an automated thing.  (Although they still had to print it.)

Of course the link below to the small writeup by Bob Baptist has us beating Northern Illinois on Saturday.

Bob also wrote this article on the game...

Biggest regular season non conference game since when? This would be a great program win if we pull it off. We have beaten them before, but with the overall rising tide of Ohio Athletics and todays 24/7 sports media landscape, this game would really put us over the top in terms of recognition within Ohio and elsewhere

This quote is reason enough to never hire Boals as a coach.

Agreed. A win here could really build on our recent string of high profile wins.. Beating State carries some extra weight. This would be beyond huge.

The more I think about it, I am naturally starting to like the matchups in this game more and more. I just really hope we show up. I think a couple of our guys are more pumped for this game then they have led you to believe through the press. That can be both good and bad...

Gotta shoot well.

You guys should check out the OSU thread on their board. Some douche who is an Ohio alum is talking about how he loves Ohio so much and worked at Ping when it opened and loves Block party etc but he always roots for OSU first

Going to need a breakout game for Bean tonight. I'm guessing Kellogg gets shut down while still taking care of the ball.

Really think Ndour will have a great game tonight. Need some strong and efficient minutes from Wilkins off the bench too.

I don't get it with the kind of basketball program down there in Athens. Its not like the school has 8,000 students and plays in a 2,500 seat gym. This is a big school division 1 basketball program.

Is Aaron Craft a nice guy?  If so I will be ashamed of the opinion I've formed of him.  For some reason he reminds me of every cocky, arrogant, obnoxious player I ever ran into (a million years ago when I was a mediocre high school athlete at best).
