Northern's in a similar predicament as we are. They lost a lot of their scoring and minutes played and will be relying on quite a few new moving parts.

I notice that the Sporting News picks Northern third in the Missouri Valley.  That means they're dang good.

They have one of the most level-headed boards I've come across.  When we beat them a couple of years ago a good number of them actually gave us some of the credit.  You don't see that very often. That was the game that Ivo played like a man-amongst-boys and we dominated from start to finish.  It was also the game where I began to think that we might have something special on our hands.

For hoops the increased travel would be worth it. For every other sport, the travel is definitely one of the major factors why it isn't feasible. And obviously football...

If today you were to stand blindfolded in the middle of the intersection of Court and Union street, be spun around a couple times, and then shoot an arrow in any direction, you would have a good chance of hitting a poster advertising Saturday's game. They are EVERYwhere.

And that's how Double Dare suffered its first and only fatal Physical Challenge.

Any move to "next level" would require that

I'm kind of obsessed with the travel thing. Anyway, not saying it wouldn't be worth it. Do you all think that we would travel a lot better if the teams we played were a lot better? By how much?

"travel better" - Yes. Flying would be typically quicker to a lot of potential destinations than most of the drives I make for MAC away games (towns too close to make flying worth it , or w/no near airport anyway, or much of anything else as a draw for that matter).

Positively awesome.  I am hoping for a big turnout.  Bringing another newbie to Athens to this one, and I can't wait.

Which is an advantage they get for not having football.  Not that I want to talk about that in this thread.

Butler has football, and they're in the Pioneer League with San Diego, Marist, Mercer, Dayton, Drake, Jacksonville, Morehead St, Valpo, Campbell, Stetson & Davidson, so they have a fair amount of travel.  But we won't talk about it here.

That conference is also he only D1 (FCS or FBS) conference made up entirely of members who do not offer scholarships for football.  I don't mind talking about that here.

Four page insert dedicated entirely to basketball in today's "The Post", including articles, the schedule, headshots, and players' twitter handles. I would venture to guess the SID pitched the idea. I like it!

That is awesome!!

A separate 4-page insert really makes the point.

Why would we want to be in that garbage conference?
Might as well join the OAC and replace Miami with Marietta #Thinksmall

Im looking forward to this game, will be down in Athens early. This should be a good matchup with a similar program, hopefully a good warm up for the big one on tuesday

Where does Northern Iowa rank in terms of OOC opponents in the Convo over the last 2 decades?

Thinking back, the only ones comparable from a program standpoint would be:

Temple
Virginia
DePaul
Wisconsin
West Virginia
Rhode Island
Xavier

And you could argue UNI ahead of a few of those. Thoughts?
