Not over my head at all.  I support the Bobcats and will go to all  events possible no matter what other favorite team of mine is playing pro or college.  I just don't buy the if you like to watch some other college team,  you are not an Ohio fan.  Just an opinion, just different than your opinion.   My six seats, four rows behind the score table, will be full of Ohio fans, enjoying the only game a true Ohio fan should be at on Sunday.

There's no reason for this to be on a Sunday.

Except that Valpo probably wanted the time to turn around from Champaign to travel to Athens. It is not always on our athletic department. They do not schedule in a vacuum. Valpo has been in the COnvo before so they know what it takes to get from ":the Region:" to SEO time and effort wise. Extra day may have made huge sense to them....although they do head to Evansville on Tuesday from here....."Rollin down Highway 41" to steal a phrase

Come to think of it they could get their kids back in class Thursday and Friday they make the trip on Sat/Sun then be in Evansville Monday/Tuesday and back home Wednesday. That makes a lot of sense academically if you are Valpo.

Yes. How dare there be some logical reason for this scheduling.  Obviously there was some reason for this to be on Sunday.  Why assume it is a bad reason?.  Maybe it was between Valpo who could come on Sunday or Muskingum who could come on Saturday. Maybe they knew the football team would tank about this time and they wanted to create a diversion for BobcatAttack users away from that travesty.

Maybe for next year all interested parties could send a list of preferred dates for BB games so the athletic department can put a matrix together of what days are totally free of conflicts.  Or maybe to make it a bit easier we could request a tentative schedule and then all of us send in our comments so they can make changes to accommodate our wishes.

Not on Sundays, Not on Saturdays when tOSU football team is playing (you have to block out the whole day so those who follow them can watch the pregame, the game and the postgame stuff on television, not on Mondays because of Monday night football, Not on Fridays because of all the fans that would rather watch their high school team,

Come on, the fans who choose to stay home to watch NFL or tOSU are not the fans that STAND UP AND CHEER FOR OHIO.  They will not make a difference in the outcome of this game.

To be clear,  I would rather this not happen either because I am one of those people who typically schedules my available time on Sundays around the Cleveland Browns schedule.  That it did happen just means I have to make a choice.  For me the choice is easy.  I will be in the Convo.  (and by the way Monroe-even if this is a game of mediocre proportions, your argument about that sounded a lot like tOSU fans who tell me that I should not waste my time rooting and watching OHIO when I could root for a team that actually matters)

So schedule it for another Saturday. My whims and desires are more important than Valpo's needs.

I love the devotion and enthusiasm here, but guys, come on.

Know why so many NBA teams play back-to-backs on Fri/Sat the first 2 months of the season? To avoid the NFL.

Know why the World Series - the freaking World Series! - was moved up to start on Wednesday every year? To minimize the number of games going against the NFL's Sunday Night Football.

Like it or not, the National Football League is not taking a back seat to mid-major, non-conference basketball in the first month of its season for the vast majority of the fanbase. The two most popular NFL franchises in Athens - the Browns and Bengals - are playing each other (and for once, there are even actual stakes involved for both teams). Regardless of their records, though, a Browns-Bengals game is always going to draw interest just because of the rivalry alone. If you are scheduling a basketball game in Athens, you literally cannot pick a worse NFL regular season game to go up against.

I guess the bolded is where we differ.

I don't view rooting as the Ohio Bobcats as rooting for a college team and rooting for the Ohio State Buckeyes as rooting for another college team.

I view rooting for the Ohio Bobcats as supporting the University I willingly chose to attend and paid over 100,000 to earn a degree from.
We are D-1 just like Ohio State. When our alums graduate, they will compete for jobs against kids from Ohio State.

Some people make the argument "I am rooting for the team, not the school."

I find that completely illogical. The Ohio Bobcats teammates are your classmates. They chose to attend this school just like you did. Now they are representing your school and in this society college athletics is one of the easiest ways a school can get mass exposure nationally.

I understand that people disagree with this view. I respect your right to have a different opinion than me. It still doesn't make sense to me and never will.

I get the Browns Bengals thing but college hoops scheduling is very hard. Unless you want to move the game to 5 or 7 pm on Sunday evening you are going to end up playing Marietta on Saturday.

It is a complicated situation. As a fanbase we can back OUr team or not. I have said this for a number of years now. IF you want to go to the next level as a fanbase you are going to have to act like you want to be there. It is one thing to support your Cats when they are travelling to Nashville or St Louis ....but we will know that we are a great fanbase ready to support a big time program that recruits want to play in front of when their game is a priority for the folks who support them.

I do not think Dayton or Xavier in the same boat would would have a problem of a SUnday game with basically the same fans filling their arenas.

I love our fans and continue to think Ohio can become a consistent player in the NCAA tourney. We have the school, the arena, an ever growing exposure and the athletic department in place to get there. The recruits that are coming in seem to be responding to the recent success which has given us name recognition. I truly believe the product is going to keep getting better. Hopefully more and more folks love the product and  make this their number one priority

TheOptimist and borna get it.

This conception that the Browns are in the playoff hunt this year--I see that some of you have a good sense of humor.  Play for draft picks and contention next year.

You say that, but I just checked the schedules and neither Xavier or Cincinnati play on a single Sunday during the NFL Season. Dayton plays at home 2 Sundays in late December, but right now the time for both is TBA. My guess is so they avoid any important NFL conflicts.

What if part of bringing in a solid name opponent such as is Valpo is having to play this game on your Sunday.  (I think borna sorta said this already.)

Getting ready to head up to Athens for the game.  Looking forward to seeing the boys in person.  I will be checking the Bengals-Browns score throughout.  Check to show what little of a life I have I will also be checking in on the only team in Columbus that I really care about and that is the Blue Jackets!  Here is hoping for a BOBCAT-BENGAL-BLUE JACKET SWEEP!!!!!  But most important is a BOBCAT win!!!

Wasn't able to watch the game today.  Any analysis from those that were able to?

Solid win.  All those fouls.  Good grief.

I was surprised Taylor was on the bench the last minute.

Ndour is the real deal.

Should Setty ever shoot threes?

I agree.  I am not ready to trust Bean yet with the game on the line.  We need to perform better on the foul line.  Kellogg has all Mac potential.  I have been really impressed with his leadership this season.

Three games after a season off is not enough to determine whether Setty can shoot the three.

Bean was in the game because he is a better on the ball defender.  We couldn't risk penetration and another foul on the big guys.  When they didn't score and there was no stoppage, Bean played on the offensive end.  OU got fouled, and he stayed in to play defense.

We are a better team than last years.

That is the largest opponent I remember coming to the convo in a long time.

In size or prestige? I'd argue UNI was a bigger name.

That could be.  However it is also possible that JC had him on the bench to give Stevie a lesson on the need to not make nonchalant passes at the half court.

You are not teaching lessons with two minutes to go.  You are trying to win a game that you had been in control of minutes earlier.  Teach the lesson in practice, in the film room,  or earlier in the game.

I agree with LongDistance as to why you have Bean in there at the end.  Bean hasn't shown much thus far, especially stat-wise...but something about him makes me trust him.  I'm not saying I prefer him to Stevie, I am just happy to have both.

Some other thoughts:
  • Ndour is awesome.  I'm sad we only get 2 years.  I'm all aboard the hype train here.
  • Kellogg is elevating his game...Spot up shooter no more.  I believe borna touched on this being a product of the previous regime, it looks like JC doesn't discourage him moving with the ball and driving more.  I could see him nabbing 1st team all MAC this year.
  • Jon Smith and Ricardo Johnson are both much more controlled than their younger years.  More sure-handed and assertive.  They're in for good senior seasons along with Nick.
  • I mentioned it in another thread, but TJ has always been prone to foul trouble and it seems to have gotten worse.
  • Mark my words - Treg will be one of if not the most hated player in the MAC by his senior year.  Happy to have him on the Bobcats, but he will rub opposing fan bases the wrong way on the court.
  • The 25-8 run in 7 minutes by Valpo was excruciaitng, but much of it was them hitting tough shots.
  • The blocking call on Nick midway thru the 2nd half was the worst call I have seen since the 4 yard line safety.
  • Great lock down defense with 12 steals, this team brings the intensity on D.
  • Right or wrong, I get the vibe we won't be anywhere near the top of the nation in assists like we were last year.
  • Still not ready to say this team is better than last year's, but am ready to say this is no rebuilding year (but I said that from the beginning).
Morgan State will be a good test.  Without sounding too much like McKinney, they won't be easy to beat on the road despite their struggles.

Good recap and agree w/Ruck - with these adds:

I think we are getting LONGER every game!

TJ had his best outing today - he will come around.

Refs - SUCKED. Load of bad calls - and we were the Home team????

Continuing concern - opposition getting to the line more because they drive into the lane more - then hit a lot of FT's. Johnson only player slashing/driving in the lane - we need more of that. Ndour posting up, Smith opportunist to the spaces and that is great - but we need more driving/slashing. Then making better than 60% FT's sure would help.....................

And on the other end of the court - SEAL OFF THE BASELINE!

A lot of that was Valpo sitting in their zone and daring us to beat them from outside, which we didn't do. Even the midrange shots from the pockets weren't connecting. Hard to drive to the hoop when that happens.
