Please do not use expression "score the ball."  It's grating.  Some idiot NBA guy musta started it.  It's up there with "going forward."  Drop each from what you're writing and you'll see no difference (or 'no difference at all' if you want some extree, useless words).  What--you're gonna score something beside the ball?

We could not hardly even do the alternative definition of "score" the ball last night - would have to at least hit the iron to do that............

I know that I am driving this thread into absolute pedantry, but...

If you can "turn the ball over" by dribbling it off your shoe, "pass the ball",and/or "share the ball" by effectively working with your teammates, doesn't it follow that by putting the spheroid through the hoop can be expressed through the phrase "score the ball"?

cc cat......I appreciate your comments.

To clarify......Over these past few coaching reins we have been successful at home, but fail to win consistently on the road. To move this program along road victories are a must.

You mean like last year when we won 7 road MAC games (versus 9 in the previous two years combined)?

To be fair I can think of at least two instances we hit (the underside of) the rim.

Hard to win a game against anyone when basically only 4 guys score points and you get virtually nothing from your bench.  I can't say I am surprised, I expected a struggle up there.  Let's hope they got it out of their system and can get back on track at home.

I was watching my son play in a tourament in New Jersey so I missed the game but this was the outcome I was worried about.   A lot of people are commenting on Oakland's record as proof this is a horrible loss but if we had played Oakland's schedule we might have been 1-7 as well.   Not saying we shouldn't have won this game but it's hard to gauge how good the Grizzlies are for many reasons.  It's also still hard to gauge how good we are.   But this is hardly a game to panic about. Frustrating to be sure but also a learning experience.

Are people really judging a coach for how he "works" the refs in a rather meaningless game in the first weekend in December? Is that what the board has come to? Just checking. Check your calendars folks, it's a loooooonnnngg season. Couldn't hit shots, end of story. Name of the game is to score more than your opponent. Sometimes you just don't have it. Move on.

FWIW Dakich was talking about Oakland today warning the Hoosier nation that the 2-7 Oakland team coming in was no slouch and calling Crean out for not knowing better than to schedule these guys. I hope the podcast goes up becasue it was really funny to hear how he lambasted the faithful and the coaching staff for what he feels could just as easily be a 20 point loss.

Guys who know hoops know that 1-7 team is pretty good. I think he even went so far as to say Crean and Buckley should know better and be scheduling Houston Baptist if they wanted to guarantee a win....anyone but Oakland.

Podcasts are up

Dakich and Don Fisher talk about how dangerous Oaklnd is....funny stuff about halfway through when they start talking about Tuesday night game with Oakland

Coach Kampe interview.

Talk about a "good Ohio squad getting beat tells me all I need to know about how dangerous Oakland is.."

"2-7 my arse Fish" .....great interview

"Ohio gave Ohio State all they wanted and only lost by 10"  good stuff

Oakland's schedule looks like somebody got drunk playing XBox, went into Edit Schedule and started punching controller buttons.

Yeah and OHIO, Indiana and Michigan State at the Palace in a row is kind of a murderer's row.....or a suicide mission after facing the teams listed above them. Interesting to hear Kampe talk about his scheduling philosophy and how his kids see their experience many years after they leave.

Maybe Oakland is loading up the front end of the schedule for RPI purposes in case they happen to run the table in conference then lose in their tournament. At-large opportunities it looks like to me.

Maybe if they won a few.  They'll look right past a soon to be 9 loss Oakland team even if they run the table and beat everyone by 50 in the Horizon.

There are a lot of reasons to load up the schedule but you have to be smart about it.  This one reminds me of Charlie Coles' schedules in the last few years of his coaching career.   But even he didn't start the entire first month of the year on the road.   It's a recipe for failure and the rest of the conference will be paying for it.

I also found this very interesting. And actually the whole interview was good.

They lost by only 4 to Mich St in Detroit today but MSU was down two players because of injuries and one because of academic issues.
