I take this as a sign they feel threatened that a growing number of people support the real O-H-I-O.

Have these females never been to a basketball game with fans before? I heard this stuff since playing in high school.

These people need to get a grip, and the Post needs to quit legitimizing their stupidity with publishing these letters

I honestly can see the point of this opinion.  I'm not gonna throw stones and get all anti-O Zone.  But I do think it does highlight the idea that there could be some simple improvements done with the cheers that are used.  I know that has already been discussed in other threads recently.  That said, I don't see the issue with the "you suck" chant when the opponent commits a foul.  If this cheer is offensive, someone has thin skin.  If there's something else I'm missing, that could be a different story.

Nothing so scandalous ever happens in Columbus! The school never had to build a task force to handle their hooligan fans, who continue to be paragons of virtue to this day.

I'm cool with publishing content like this IF and only if, there are specific examples that can be cited.  That's fine because perhaps some behavior needs changed.  Just generally stating you were offended doesn't say much.  As an alumnus, I'm offended when an OU student or fan wears O$U stuff into The Convo.  That's not stopping me from being there ever again, and it isn't causing me to write letters everytime I see it..

When will these people realize that bitching about the OZone is much better received when done on an internet message board.

I'm not the least bit offended by the Ozone's "you suck" on a foul, but it's really lame. It's more embarrassing than offensive.

Agreed.  Something more original or creative would be more impressive.

Someone should probably let Valerie Zona and Jennifer Dietsch know they should never go to an Ohio hockey game. Or take a walk down Court Street after 10 p.m., for that matter.

This just makes me want to be even more offensive at the refs and players. You tell a kid not to do something they're going to do it more.

Good grief.  These two "fans" can't possibly have been to any basketball games with an active student section.

Being upset at someone yelling "you suck" and the refs "suck"?

Wow.

Did these two visit Athens from 1953 ?

These two "fans" were planted by Prof. Steve Hays of the Dept. of Classics and World Religions.

Tell Valerie we'll rename the section the "O-Zona".  Maybe that will placate her.

Don't agree with these two ladies at all.

But I will say that some of the chants could be more creative and be improved.

noticed she didn't complain about Ohio State's student section, pointing and shouting "Jon Smith sucks! Jon Smith sucks!" repeatedly, mere inches from him, when he came out of the game. And the chant of @**hole that came though loud and clear on the broadcast was classy too.

Any chance of respecting what this broad has to say went out the window when she admitted to attending 5+ years of home games  of that school in Columbus. And on top of that trying to convince us she didn't hear anything inappropriate. yeah right.

The way I interpreted it, it seemed to me she was listing attending Ohio State games as an accomplishment on her sports fan resume, thus qualifying herself as a real sports fan who is knowledgeable enough about the subject to pass judgement on the legitimacy and conduct of student sections everywhere.

Maybe I read it wrong?

Although she stated she had been to 30+ O$U games, she didn't claim to have been to even one Ohio game before.  That game may have been her first.  So it's not like Ohio athletics will be losing a regular customer.

In situations like this, I always like to publicly ask the author of these letters to the editor: "of all of the topics/issues that you could be taking a proactive stance on, THIS is what you choose?"

I am OUTRAGED that Ohio State fans sing a song denigrating an entire state of fellow human beings simply because they live in a state shaped like a mitten.

And Ann Arbor is an upstanding citizen.

Evidently, she's never worn a Michigan jersey into Ohio Stadium.

Long time reader, first time poster. I can't believe these two complaints are even real, this behavior goes on at venues all across the country. Sounds as if they had a sheltered life.

You have to remember that for many years at the Schott the students were not exactly embraced. Maybe when she went she couldn't hear the students who were scattered throughout the nose bleed seats.
