He hasn't played since March of 2022. If it's not injury related, what exactly is the plan? Is he using a scholarship? I get that these are human beings but if academics are this big of an issue, why don't we bring in somebody else?
If he is on scholarship, and any portion of that is taxpayer funded, why does the public not have a right to know his status?
Because of laws! Every student in public schools is tax payer funded. You don't have a right to see their grades.
Did you even read what I said? Did I say anyone had a right to see his grades? I said the public has a right to know his status...is he injured, etc.

I hope the state of Ohio starts emailing ohiocatfan1 every single time any student on an academic scholarship has a tummy ache.

It's his right to know, after all.
Did you get up on the wrong side of the bed? How about the media just asking Coach Boals the question until he answers it. Is he hurt? Is it a personal matter? It's not that difficult.
What you posted is a far cry from "the media can ask". You said "If he is on scholarship, and any portion of that is taxpayer funded, why does the public not have a right to know his status?"

As if his scholarship entitles us to know what's going on with him.
Exactly, he claims it is his right to know!
Damn why are you in such a bad mood? Adults can have a difference of opinion as we clearly do.

Enough with the straw-man argument. Nobody is asking for a medical file.
The reason can be given as injury, illness, personal matter, etc. and move on. I'm obviously not the only one wondering as this is the subject of this thread.

Boals was asked and sidestepped the question. What now? Grand jury indicts Boals? We get Alex Jones on the case?

If Boals said "personal matter" I don't think anybody here is any less in the dark. We're talking degrees of difference between knowing nothing and know a tiny bit of something.

We would be less in the dark as we would know he's not hurt. So he has sidestepped the question. He needs to keep being asked. Nobody is asking for his grades, medical records, etc. Just some sort of info for a member of the team who was expected to be a solid contributor and he isn't even seeing the floor.

First, Alex Jones is probably busy pawning everything he owns to pay lawyer bills. Second, wasn't it already decided (based on some guy with supposed inside info) in another thread...that the source of all this was academic in some form or fashion? Third, wasn't there a reminder in that thread about the kid not being Patrick Ewing or Tim Duncan? That he averaged like one point and one rebound a game when actually did play? Thus there was little reason for extreme consternation over his absence? If he averaged a double/double, then there would be reason for all this concern.

He has that glow about him when he is sitting on the bench.

If there can be one pinned at the top saying "stop fretting over a guy who averaged one point and one rebound per game." Otherwise, there will continue to be a never ending stream of these I J threads acting like he's Joel Embiid.

We don't need him to be Joel Embiid. We need him to be better than Gabe Wiznitzer and provide minutes behind/with Clayton. No more.

This team will go nowhere with Gabe Schrute and a non-physical PF who wants to be Dirk as our only bigs.

We can make do with complimentary pieces.

What a thread…wow.

Folks…he’s clearly not hurt. And to the best of our knowledge, the dude has been practicing and is in the Bahamas photographed participating in practice. So, we will turn on the game Friday night to see a guy who is practicing with his teammates for two days in the Bahamas on the bench for the GW game wearing sweats and smiling. So yeah, I find it weird that we can’t get a simple answer as to the reason from Boals officially why IJ is not playing. But hey…at least IJ gets to spend a hell of a weekend in the Bahamas going down waterslides with his teammates.

The official reason that IJ has not been playing (so folks can relax and feel relieved). IJ has not yet played because Coach Boals has not sent him to the middle of the table, to stand on the X and be waved into the game by a referee. When this happens IJ will have entered the game and all will be right with the world.

I don't expect IJ, eligible or not eligible, to be the answer to Ohio's gaping hole in the middle. However, watching some early MAC OOC games, I also don't believe UT's Ben Wight or BG's Sam Towns would be of any help either.

No, that’s covered under the Buckley Amendment, which has been sarcastically referred to as the student witness protection program. At the medical school we could not send out a news release about a student graduating without his or her prior permission. This bordered on the ridiculous, at times.
