Ouch.
I wonder who's the next big man on the list for Ohio?
Isaiah Carr of Grand Canyon was one of the three visitors a few weeks back. Not sure if anyone has insight on the other. Maybe Wilhelm Breidenbach of Nebraska? The big pursue struggle is real.

My hope is that Boals has someone else coming. Let's be honest--none of these guys look like superstars yet. Even DW3 had never averaged double figures!

Dwight averaged 10ppg and 9rpg his last season at JMU and 10ppg the previous. He was solid.

I know Dwight was solid. He was not what you would consider at the time a HUGE get. He worked hard and I believe our coaches coached him up to be a top tier MAC player. We may get another guy like that.

I’ll agree he blossomed under our staff; but, his addition was pretty significant at that time. He was a proven commodity in the paint at a parallel mid-major.

Deal with FACTS. Boals has been unable to recruit a BIG man. If you're proud of his recruits then we will have to agree to disagree.
FACTS are FACTS.

Are you going to blame Boals for landing a talented big man two weeks ago only to be outbid at the last minute by another school's high 5-figures NIL offer? Is that his fault or ours?

Bet you the staff now goes all in starting from scratch on Will McNair Jr. 6'11" 265 from Mississippi State and NMSU. Just entered the portal.

Thought the same when I saw McNair’s name. Unless, one of the two visitors from weeks back commits. There’s also a number of bigs available ranked in JUCO Recruiting’s top 100. Are we scarred by Miguel going that route?

At this point, we have a really good rotation of wings with AJ Brown, Jaylin Hunter, Shereef Mitchell, Miles Brown, Elmore James and Ike Cornish (hoping he's really good and staying optimistic). We have a serviceable big in Wiznitzer who HAS to realistically take a step forward right? AJ Clayton is a very solid college 4 man who can play 5 and IJ Ezuma will be the wildcard. So for a transfer big, I am ok getting a dude who can play defense and hustle.

Face it guys, our new big next year may just be Wiznitzer 2.0.

Please pass a little green Kool-Aid to FearLeon, otherwise his head just might explode! ;-)

Well, I blame everyone for missing my apparently too subtle point. I wasn't talking about a new guy who was Wiz 2.0, but the Wiz himself after summer training and coaching up. My point was that we don't seem to be able so far to attract another big, so we might have to settle for an improved Gabe Wiznitzer.

I'm not sure what it is - but if I was 4 or 5 I would be absolutely salivating at the idea of joining this lineup of shooters. Especially if you took a confidence hit in P5 and are looking to rebuild your career quick.

I don't believe it's a recruiting issue, bc they're not only recruiting really strong guards, but they're getting even MORE guards in the portal.

I think we gotta hit JUCO, D2 or Europe. Bring in a long rebounder. We don't need our big man to score 15 a night, we need him to get 15 boards and set some screens.

Maybe *that* is it? They wouldn't be a focal point of the offense?

It's money, pure and simple. It's a seller's market for big men and we got outbid by UAB for the kid out of Belmont, who by all accounts wanted to come to Athens...as long as we were in the ballpark financially.

This is what college sports has become.

SBH is correct, it’s a financial hurdle with size coming at a premium. I hadn’t heard anything on the Belmont kid but that was likely the outcome with Foster and Brown. I’m sure the staff has put together some competitive offers and to MDWST’s point, feels the situation itself should be a selling point for a big.

I also agree with MDWST that a big who can board/protect the rim and isn’t a liability on the offensive side is all we really need. Outside of Foster and Nesmith, it seems like our focus has been on former P5 4 stars in need of a fresh start. If those types are also more financially motivated, perhaps the JUCO and D2 route would be more advantageous at this point and moving forward.

With NIL's ,bidding for players is legal now.

But the more I read about the whole NIL situation ,it feels eerily familiar
with the 1994 movie " Blue Chips "

"Western" University? Wearing UCLA colors? Local wealthy businessman sticking his nose into the school's athletic programs?

Sam Gilbert was an American businessman who owned a construction company in Los Angeles, California. He is best known as a controversial athletic booster of the UCLA Bruins men's basketball team from the mid-1960s until UCLA was ordered to disassociate from him.

**"Western's nickname in the movie was the Dolphins. The one year UCLA didn't have a dominating big... after Alcindor and just before Walton... they were underdogs against the Jacksonville University DOLPHINS who had a huge front line including Artis Gilmore in the title game. People claim that game was rigged for UCLA to win. UCLA shot 27 more foul shots than Jacksonville even though J-ville had the huge size advantage. The 7-2 future NBA star Gilmore fouled out while only one foul was called on undersized UCLA post Patterson. I was maybe 12 years old and sensed something wasn't right watching that game.

I'm not ready to call the process broken, because we are getting recruits. Football is having no issues. Perhaps we need to re-think our pitch. Even take a sort of "Last Chance U" type of angle. This may not be your forever home, but let us help you get to where you want to be.

We can't get your dad a tractor for his rural Indiana farm. We can't get your mom a house in Chicago, but we CAN get you to the NBA. We CAN get you to the SEC. We CAN get you to the ACC. We CAN get you to Europe if thats where you want to go. We CAN offer you stability in the coaching staff (maybe).

Western Michigan is offering you $15,000 in a duffle bag, but will you ever be heard from again?

If WMU is able to offer recruits $15000 and we aren't we probably wont be the better path to the NBA for much longer. Obviously, though, we have had what it took to get some other good transfers out of the portal so I don't know if that's a permanent issue with respect to other MAC schools. Someone would have to tell me.

If the process turns out to be bad for us and better for others I don't think that alone defines the process as broken.

I’m not panicking yet OCF, but check back with me on June 15th if we don’t have our big man signed. I might need some serious support if The Whiz is getting more than 4 minutes a game next season.
