For the sake of getting discussions back to portal, it looks like Keshawn Hall is committing soon. Lamar liked his Tweet; but it seems like George Mason could be favorite.

Hall is a 6'7" 250 pound... GUARD? I've never seen him play, but now I'm very curious.
Guard skills with strength around the rim. I'd love to have this guy.

This guy could be a menace in the MAC and further increase our depth - although he's a guard I think he could make the transition to PF with his size and back up Clayton nicely. But, we will have to see where he ends up.

He’s Nick Perkins. According to his dad, we offered a few weeks back. Since, I’ve only seen updates that the new VCU and George Mason staff’s offered. He visited the latter two weeks ago and even took photos with the uni. No idea if he’s visited us in between or even considering.
Feels like a long, long shot. Seems like somebody would know by now if he's made a visit to Athens.

As I said earlier in the thread, Hall seems like someone who perpetually has one foot out the door. He bounced between several high schools in prep school and as has could have been predicted, he's leaving UNLV. Skill wise, at least offensively, looks like a Brandon Hunter mold. Just have a strong feeling he'd bolt, no matter where he was, once he is able to grad transfer.

Yeah. He also recently tweeted that big news is coming soon - I get the feeling he is going to announce his commitment very soon by the end of this week.

Likely, but no one knew about Shereef visiting until he committed. That said, it’s obvious we’re all in on Foster. Hopefully he’s feeling the love and commits by EOW.

Keyshawn Hall went to high school right next door to Elmore James. Solid chance that is our "in" if he's coming here.

Boals also has a relationship with Hall’s off-season trainer as well (probably how we got connected). So, there’s a chance; in spite of how small it might be.

He would be an amazing pickup as well for us. He would be a RS-SO for 23-24. Him and Hadaway would be a crazy good SF combo

Anyone who claims Gabe did not make any progress this season is willfully ingnoring reality. A ton of progress? No, but he has gotten better.
Goodness...then count me in as having no perception of reality I guess. My god....just look at the numbers of the team when he's on the court. +/- is a good indicator and it was atrocious. I can go on and on about The Whiz, but time to re-focus on the portal and get big guys who can contribute and set a legal screen.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=erP8Ipe72IY

So this guy has no ability?
Jerry...if you watched The Whiz play 32 games this past season, then you know the answer to this question.
I'll leave it at this, the footage shown is REAL. The fact Boals has not capitalized on it seemingly in any way is not all on Wiz. Boals is struggling. I like him but he's not what many expected in terms of improving our program. And without Saul's recruits it would look even worse.

Jerry...your buddy Saul played a PG in Kirk who could not shoot and was a turnover machine over a PG who currently has his own national commercial running and was a second round NBA draft pick. It's amazing with how great of a coach/recruiter your buddy Saul was that he could never win a MAC championship....go to the NCAA Tourney as Ohio's coach....and win an NCAA Tourney game with the players "he" recruited to Athens. The same players that Boals was magically able to take to an NCAA Tournament and defeat the defending NCAA champs. Do you think it has something do with the fact that Boals was smart enough to give the keys to Preston and actually develop "Saul's recruits"? Two things Saul failed to do. Keep sending those Christmas cards to Saul in the Dakotas.

As for the recruitment of The Whiz, I’ve called out Boals and this staff numerous times over the last six months. It was a gigantic swing and a miss. I’ve also called out Chris Mack and these other Power 5 schools that offered him a full scholarship. Unfortunately, he’s not D-One material. It looks like he will get one more year to see if he can improve in actually catching the basketball and not commit moving screens. Think summer big man camp Jerry. Ya have to get The Whiz to a big man camp this summer. Call Saul and maybe he knows someone who can get us a discount.

George Mason has had both Hall and Cornish visit recently with a few transfers commit in the last few days. Wonder if it’ll come down to just us and GCU for Cornish.

If it does and student fan support is the deciding factor, Ohio and the O-Zone, as good as it is (best in the MAC?), will come in second place (check out the GCU Havoc on youtube).

GCU is legit. Has a newer (2011) by CBB standards and Phoenix in its backyard. Returning its top 7 players; so it could be harder to carve out PT. I read Cornish’s bio on the Maryland page and he chose it because of proximity to home (from Baltimore). At least we have that going for us.

I will say we aren't as good as the Havocs yet (Hope to get it there fingers crossed) but Boals has stated to us in the past the atmosphere GREATLY helps with recruiting - motivates us to further provide an excellent product and bring the Convo back into the talk of venues teams dread coming to.

On Cornish - Looking at George Mason's and GCU's depth charts - he would definitely have to compete for minutes on GCU's roster - but George Mason's SF position is pretty much for the taking along with ours. If he is concerned about not being far from home, GM is in Virginia while we would be a further drive. Hope Boals and Co. can get this guy to Athens!

I wrote a paper on Grand Canyon in one of my MBA classes. Basically about the business of sports. How athletics connects a campus, or in this case, can CREATE one. If you're bored, take a journey down that rabbit hole. Pretty wild if you don't know the stories.

Only for-profit university in D1. They're publicly traded. Not too bad of an investment actually. Stock is up about 300% since moving to D1 in 2016/2017. Enrollment has doubled. 80% of their students are online.

Imagine Southern New Hampshire University joins the Big 10 and starts building facilities with Les Wexner's money. GCU built $200M worth of sports facilities and campus dorms on 100 acres with the Phoenix Suns owners money, to legitimize their online christian college background and promote enrollment. Year 1 athletic budget was $20M, most of which was in basketball.

I lived in PHX during their overhaul of athletic facilities. It truly is crazy how nice it is now. Such an interesting case study.

To your latter point — GM is also waiting on a decision from Hall. Who would likely take Cornish’s potential spot and pathway to playing time. Makes this all the more interesting since we’ve offered both just like GM has.

GM also landed a VT wing commitment yesterday as well.

My weekly complaining about the cameras in the convo. The product on the TV is always awful. Zero atmosphere. Always fixated on the empty seats, not the student section going bananas on the other side as it should be. Even on a Tuesday vs Central Michigan there are 500 students filling the lower bowl. Bobcat Black is at the early bird special at Texas Roadhouse.

I really wish they would move the press box to the other side, but I understand that would require a massive amount of renovation and money we probably don't have. I think we make up for it at times with the sheer noise - Akron after Miles' three and Hadaway's alley oop during "WT/LT" against BG were a prime example. If you want to go back further game against Toledo was electric.

Xavier's Deionte Miles to Morehead State. I thought he would have been destined for Miami provided they still have spots.
