How would you like to be the Oregon State AD and a head men's basketball coach that is under .500 after 4 or 5 years. Usually that will be a point when a change is on the horizon. In this instance however your head coach just so happens to be the brother in-law of the most powerful man in the world....the President of the United States. Does he have the coconuts to fire him after the end of the year or does he also get a full 2 terms even though his approval ratings in Corvallis is even lower than President Obama's current 43%? It's pretty obvious the announcers are making any excuse possible as to why they have not been successful.

I hope Akron pulls this out.

Akron came out strong (10-0) as Evans looked looked like a solid PG. First I've seen of that this year.  Akron missing FT and OSU heating up a bit. Zips by 4 with 3 left first half.

i thought the same thing, I can't see them firing Robinson while Obama is around.

This is actually year 6. His records are terrible! There is no way a high major playing in a power 5 conference would ever be this patient so I am guessing it absolutely is one of the reasons he is still there. Man he and his sister look alike.

I try and I try but I cannot root for Akron. I hope they win for all the reasons one should as a MAC fan but when it comes down to watching them in action I cannot put my hands together for the Zips.

they do have some weapons.

Is it, or is that just speculation?

i keep thinking BA threads cannot get much stranger, then I am wrong again. Both MSNBC and Fox News will be following BA for breaking news.

their coach is 77-88 after 5 seasons and on track to be the 3rd winningest coach in school history by the end of the year.

bad is a relative term, I guess.

Akron ended up winning the game 83-71.  Treadwell with 24 and 10.  Nyles Evans 5-7 from 3 to end with 17 points.  Probably his best game as a Zip.  Akron plays #17 Iowa State in the semi-finals today at 4:30 on ESPNU.

I pull for Akron big time. You are a fool if you don't in the OOC. Only helps us.

Getting excited for our first MAC game against them January 12th.  Will the students be back then?

Classes start the 13th, so students should be getting back by the 12th.

I repeat...I pull for them but I cannot root for them. At the end of the game I am happy they won but while watching them I just have a part of  me that will not let the other part of me say "go zips"

With the dorms opening at 9:00 am on the 11th and the game not being to 6:00 pm on the 12th, I would expect a huge crowd of both students and non-students.  Couldn't have a better kickoff to the home MAC schedule.

The MAC is a one-bid league.  Strength of schedule really only determines if the MAC representative is an 11, 12 or 13 seed in March.   Whether or not I root for them has no impact on their actual performance anyway.  Since I think the entire university is a dirtbag factory, I refuse to root for Akron.

Good win for Zippy. Yes, I wanted them to win. But I did take a shower afterwards.

Are my eyes deceiving me? The MAC is all but tied with the MVC in the RPI standings. One bid territory though.

It wouldn't be if a couple schools did better this time of year.

If we all just got along, maybe they would do better this time of year.

Toledo beats Kansas, has a good MAC run and loses in the Finals. I think they get in. Same goes with Akron on a lesser scale if they can surprise ISU and Boise, and then really whack the conference with a tough loss in the finals. Both won't get at larges, but the resumes will be worthy of discussion.

Ohio at this point is capped at a 12 seed. To get a single digit seed Ohio would have to have taken out OSU or UMass. The performances say Ohio is a team that could win a game though. I care more about higher NCAA seed for Ohio than a second MAC bid for a school who will be 1 and done if they make the dance.

I understand Bobcat Love's perspective here, but I'm in the same camp as bobcat2nc in that I can't utter the phrase "Go Zips".  Hopefully they have a good showing in Hawaii, just in time for OUr guys to take them down in Athens in a few weeks.

IMP A CT players of a 23 point loss. Yay! Sports Interns!

I think we need to work on other words that both describe Zip basketball and have a letter A that can be replaced with a Kangaroo logo.
