I notice the "subject to blackout" tag. I was able to watch the Kron game on the TWC sports channel. I know others were blacked out... I am in suburban Akron/Cleveland...

How do they determine blackouts?

Basically ESPN3 is blacked out over TWSC's coverage area. Which is roughly the state of Ohio. Here's the blackout map:

I can confirm that ESPN3 also blacked out the 'Kron game in some of the green area in Ohio too.

It's funny that tonight's WMU-EMU game is also blacked out over the same area.  Looks like they can get it in nearly all of Mich -- where it has the most interest -- but not in Ohio, where hardly anybody cares.

Ohio -14.5 tonight.  Really?  Am I missing something, though I admit I know little about BSU.  Seem like too many even though I see they're 3-10 and lost @ Kent by 12.  Hope Vegas is correct, but this seems like a few too many (which means we'll probably win by 20 which is fine by me).

That makes sense. I was thinking that people were blacked out on the TV channel and not ESPN3.

We seem to have played to the level of our competition at least in the first half in some of our home games before pulling away. Be nice to get out early tonight.

I'm still bitter about losing to these guys in the 2011 MAC Tournament. It the only time I can ever remember throwing something after a loss (a plastic bowl that split in two when it hit the wall). Such a frustrating game.

This is the start of a pretty winnable three game stretch before our Saturday morning matchup up at the inferior Convo. I think we win this one pretty easily and get some more minutes for our bench players.

Ball State is probably the worst team in the conference not named Bowling Green. We should beat these guys by at least 20 - they have no one who can cause mismatches like Akron did. Unfortunately, I am predicting a pretty lackluster environment in the Convo coming off a loss that was difficult to swallow. Prove me wrong, O Zone.

I'm pretty sure Fake Jeff would agree with me that we can't take Ball State lightly based on their two losses in MAC play.  They barely lost to Akron at home, really had a chance to win it.  They were up 15 vs. Kent State at Kent in the second half but Kent rallied big time for a 12 point win.

Part of the challenge will be getting back fired up after a tough loss Sunday night.  Plus, as others have mentioned, it could be a smallish, quiet crowd in the Convo tonight.  But I'll be there making as much noise as I'm allowed to get away with in the Oldzone seats across from the Ozone.

Following up with some more thoughts about tonight's game:
  • Ball State has one of the most productive freshmen in the MAC, Zavier Turner, a guard.  He is a fine three point shooter and fantastic at the line.  He doesn't have a good assist-turnover ratio for a point guard.
  • Ball State has had a lot of trouble taking care of the basketball and defending.  With Ohio's ability to force turnovers and get out in transition, that should be a great opportunity to build a lead.
  • Ball State outrebounds their opponents by four, and Majok is a good rebounder, but that figure is likely skewed by their opponents' high FG percentage and Ball's low FG percentage.
  • Ohio completely embarrassed Ball State in Muncie last year.  Don't know if there will be any carry over from that.  With a new staff there is probably not a lot of talk about last season.
  • Force turnovers, rebound, get out in transition.  Identify Turner, Alstork and Bond as shooters.  Those ingredients should lead to an Ohio double digit victory.
  • IMO Ball State made a good coaching hire in James Whitford.  He will build a good program in Muncie.

Couldn't we safely say that NIU and CMU fall into that category as well?

Nice write up....would not sleep on Alstork. Gonna have a bust out game soon. I can feel it.

I attended the Balls State-Kan't Game on Saturday with a Kent buddy of mine. I came away thinking that if we don't crush this team we are definitely playing down to our competition. Majok is solid but doesn't move much. His points come from penetration, not from post moves. His rebounding comes from solid position. The rest of the cast kind of floats around him and either shoots 3s or looks to penetrate with no flow. And I came away particularly unimpressed with Whitford. He just stood there and let Kent make run after run and never adjusted his gameplan. I left thinking "he was the main assistant at Zona? NO WAY!" Come on Cats, let's blow out some Cardinals.

Time for JC to go over to Ping and get a fat kid or two who always shoot lights out--really pathetic.

The refs have been inconsistent -- sometimes letting them play but then calling ticky-tacks.  But we've been sloppy.  That might change if we can get Smith in there for some decent minutes in the 2nd half.  Ndour and Kellogg score the points but Smith really anchors this team.

One of the most inconsistent officiated games so far. Both teams benefitted from ticky tack calls and both teams allowed to push and shove at times.

I think the cobbled together lineup did a nice job in the last part of the first half. Not pretty but all in all they deserve credit for hanging in there and taking a lead to half time.

Off topic: buffalo shoots 3/6 foul shots in regulation and Toledo makes 18 of 20 something and they go into overtime. Total of 2 points scored in OT. Might have been some frustration there.

OU Country, I agree with you.  On both observations.

Recap says Campbell had 6 points, 5 boards in 17 minutes.  I'm thinking his development is probably the biggest 'find' we could have.

Thoughts on how he's doing, how he's progressed?
