I found the opening to their "game thread" hilarious

"While we don't share the kitten fans obsession with us, we probably should start up a thread and discuss the game."

It really isn't an obsession as much as Ohio actually having a passionate fanbase that cares about the program and is intelligent to identify rivals and key games on the schedule.

I look forward to taking over their high school gym later this season like Ohio fans took over Kent's high school gym this past weekend.

It is a shame Akron cannot get a real arena built. That is absolutely holding that program back, but that is a discussion for another thread.

Beat Kron.

Their high school gym?? High school arenas don't  seat 5500. LOL.

Wins over Kent and Akron to start the MAC schedule? That'd be something else.

Smallest HS gym attendance capacity on this list is 7,000..........

uHHHHYEAH?

33 currently with over 5K.  Does not count the ones that closed in the last few years. I think one of my friends added it up . Over 250K seats within 50 miles of his house.

Not sure why the LOL. .Besides...... the definition of HS gym has more to do with tone and atmosphere than the actual capacity and both Akron and Kent fall squarely in that category.

EDIT  The most complete  list. Top to bottom. It is far short of the 400 schools missing lie Cathedral where Walt coaches. INteresting. Some of those school have a  student body tha is not 15% of their gym capacity.

My father used to claim that his high school gym (Marion, Ind.) was larger and nicer than Akron's JAR.  Anyone who follows Indiana high school b-ball has seen HS gyms of that size and larger.

To me, this is a absolute fact, but it depends on what they would be able to build.

For my example, I cite Stroh Center, which is much nicer than it's predecessor, but lacks the character of a real home floor from what I've seen so far. Anderson had that.

Recent game between Marion  (James Blackmon current coach) and Lawrence North (MIke Conley, Eric MOntross, Greg Oden alums)  had 6200 of 7500 seats butts in seats admission . Pops was right

Arkley had an amazing stat in his preview article today.

http://www.athensohiotoday.com/sports/ohiouniversity/bobcats-ndour-get-first-crack-at-akron/article_baae3d01-6eaf-54ff-bc6d-987bd6e75806.html

Treadwell averaged 16.3 points and 9.3 rebounds in the three games against Ohio. Bobcat forward Ivo Baltic, who played the majority of the minutes at PF for the team last season, had 0 points and four combined rebounds in 55 combined minutes against the Zips

Wow. We'll see how N'Dour does but it won't be hard to improve upon 2013.

I don't agree with the conventional wisdom. Akron does need a new arena but I don't think it would do a whole lot of their program; I think it's already near its ceiling..

Same with KY but nothing beats Texas and it's high school football stadiums.  Check this one out:

Yea I would say almost half the gym up at Kent State was OU fans. Including me and two others.

Unbelievable statistic.

I'm feeling pretty damn confident today. Need a bunch of good minutes from Stevie today.

Are you sure?  I was there...it was a good OU turnout of fans, but we weren't the majority.

Akron and Ohio know each other so well that we don't have to do much analysis on here.  We know what it takes to win.  Don't let them control the boards and exploit their size.  We take care of the ball and pressure Akron into committing turnovers like they've been prone to do all season.  We hit a decent percentage of open shots.

Getting ready to head to Athens now. Enjoying the finishing touches of Iowa handing Ohio A&M it's second loss in a row. My daughter and I sat and listened for an OSU cheer that was something other than OH-IO or OOOOOOO. Turns out they really don't have any other cheers!

An Ohio win over Akron would be great! An Ohio win over Akron and an OSU loss at home on the same day......PRICELESS!

I usually prefer to see OHIO's opponents win their other games, particularly those few teams that beat OHIO. However, I have to admit I enjoyed watching the final minutes  of tO$U's game today and seeing the Hawkeyes hand A&M its 2nd straight loss. 0-2 in the B1G doesn't sound so good for #3. How far will they drop? Meanwhile, UMASS keeps winning. Go Bobcats!

Also enjoyed the game played on the banks of the Olentangy River. What I noticed is that Craft is not getting the calls in today's game v. Iowa or against Michigan St. that he got v. Ohio earlier in the year. I thought that he created most of the contact while driving toward the basket against Ohio, but got the favorable calls, resulting in 20 of osu's 51 foul shots. The refs did not bail him out in two losses to msu and Iowa.

Now waiting for Ohio to go to 2 - 0 in the Mac.

I would rather our opponents win games in which they don't play us.

But if Ohio wins, I'm not gonna care much what the school to the north did.

no one likes seeing OSU lose more than me but the downside is our RPI dropped about 5 points as a result.

The only difference between the JAR and my HS gym is the additional seating on the one basket end and the JAR is a little more updated.

Looks like they're trying to use the TWSC feed but something is seriously distorting the signal.

Ok. It looks to be the same feed on ESPN 3, minus the distortion.
