sorry but Ohio was 45th in the county as far as growth rate during the last available 39 month period at .30 percent

I never claimed it was booming, just disputed your claim population was declining...it is not. Either way you are splitting hairs, as I mentioned we are the 7th most populous state in a not very big area and that isn't changing anytime soon. Arguing whether the state population will be 13 mil or 14 mil in 20 years doesn't change that.

It boils down to me thinking the close in-state rivalries would add more committed fans and attract the attention of more students, alumni & locals of these schools and that is most important...while you think a more spread out geographic area would attract more casual fans and national interest which is more important. So be it.

You're so hell bent on making your point that you misquote me. I said " losing population or not growing that much". I said you had done good points, and you agree that there are two ways of looking at it. The league wouldn't even have 10 football members which seems rather small to me. Anyway, I'm all for serious fans across the nation following the MAC, not just casual ones. Do you really think an all Ohio league would get any play in the national tv scene? it's just a pipe dream anyway unless there is no group of 5 playing D-1 football.

Peace

I find the proposition pretty compelling. What other state could even do this? Maybe California? We (and half/plus the country) don't watch those PST late start games anyway. KY and IN would be jealous - they sure can't put an entire conference together like that - IU & Purdue would never leave BigTenDozenish, Indiana Leprechauns do not even consider themselves "Hoosiers", Kantuck and Loovool would not come on board either. Texas - who cares - FBall country. Ohio has a LOT of 250K metro areas w/A LOT of in state alums for these schools that could make viewing potential HUGE compared to most conferences (not to mention out of state alums). tO$U would be the "outsider" every week! ALL of the schools in the conference would realize attendance bumps as well. Maybe it could be the "Buckeye Basketball" conference (and REALLY get a dig in). Head off "re-align mania" at the pass...........keep "ours", to "us". I like this outta the box thought process.

IN/KY would be an interesting conference now that you brought it up.

UK.IU ND BUtler Evansville Indiana State Ball State IUPUI IPFW Notre Dame Lousville Western KY Murray State EKU Purdue

Heck of a basketball conference most within a 4 hour footprint.

Not a ghosts chance in hell of that ever happening. But pretty cool to look at.

INKY conf prop (add Valpo) just confirms the potential strength and interest in the "Buckeye" conference. Two states w/great BBall heritage and still could not come close to what Ohio would have (INKY minus Bigtendozeners and leprechauns - just as Ohio minus tO$U because they would never do it). Comes down to Population, # of big metro areas (Cleveland, Akron/Canton, Ytown, Toledo, Dayton, Cincinnati, Columbus/Lancaster/Athens corridor (of course it's a corridor w/the RT 33 bypasses!), plus the sheer number of mid to large universities in Ohio. No other state could realistically do this!

Ahh - but you say "what about recruiting". What about it - more major and mid major in state recruits would stay! Funnest league with packed venues all year long!

I like the ring of Rt 33 corridor. Appalachia's own I-95 corridor.

INKY conference is awesome solely due to the name.

Colo - I missed the "or not growing..." part of you message, my bad.

I just don't think the footprint of the league changes interest in national coverage.  The MAC doesn't get their few ESPN appearances because the conference spans 5 states, it gets them because there are usually a few good teams that produce a few good match-ups...This league would be no different.  I think the #1 goal should be to spike the interest of the students, alumni, and locals...And I think a conference like this would accomplish that.

It is all hypothetical...but the 2 big hurdles would be Cincy not getting adopted into the BCS world and/or them accepting a spot in this conference...And football.  That's why I said the time to do it would be when the 7 D1 schools get dropped to some non-BCS like division, and we bring Dayton & YSU up to join.  It'd be a fun conference for football too, considering the circumstances.
