Also, Trent vs BG in 1994 was on a Saturday and was between 2 contenders with star players (did Trent and Daniels overlap?), with students and band, and was sibs weekend if I'm not mistaken.
Yeah, I don't remember what year it was. Maybe 1995? 1993? But I'm pretty sure (not 100%) it was a Wednesday night.
Biggest difference in this comparison? Trent and Daniels were 2 of several future NBA players dotting MAC rosters back before the turn of the century. Not too many since.
I was at game too and it was 100% not on a Wednesday, it was on a weekend. I know this for a fact because I had friends from BG come down for the weekend and specifically for the game. It was also tied into a special weekend - either sibs weekend or parents weekend. I can’t remember which, but I remember it being one of those because it helped with the crowd. Still, the main thing was having two good teams led by two great MAC basketball players. Trent and Daniels were awesome. To this day that game still stands out to me as one of the times where Ohio basketball felt like “big time” basketball. There was excitement about the game and matchup leading up the game, the crowd kept coming and coming, and watching the Convo fill up like that was awesome. BG jumped ahead early, then Trent had a monster game. The atmosphere was electric and it felt - for one afternoon - like a major college basketball environment. Best of all, no smart phones or social media existed. Meaning, the students that turned out were there to actually watch the game. For the entire game. Not sitting there scrolling on their phone while the game went on in front of them. It was just a different time and sadly, probably won’t be replicated again. Sure Ohio has had a few packed games since over the years like the one vs Miami when Trent’s number was retired. But that BG/OU game was just different. Trent wasn’t in a suit watching his jersey high raised up above, he was wearing it while playing on the court. It made all the difference. I’ve seen teams like Kentucky, Virginia and Wisconsin come to the Convo after that day and nothing touches what we had for that BG/OU MAC battle. I’m just glad to have been a part of it, it witness and experience it.
An absolute 100% accurate description of this night.....Saturday February 19, 1994. I was there as well. It wasn't a sellout but it felt like 12K in the house. Almost positive it was sibs weekend.
Trent scored 46 points and I can't remember how many dunks. He abused Floyd Miller that night. God...he was electric. It was the best atmosphere I've ever seen in the Convo when we regularly played Saturday night home games. I tried to find a link to the boxscore, but couldn't. If anyone finds it, post it here. That BG team had more than just Daniels as well. Really good team.
I also can't help but think in today's world, what Trent would have made to transfer after his freshman year. I would say minimum 1.5 million...hell..maybe more. For the younger generation here...there will never, ever be a player like Trent come through this program again. He makes Enrique Freeman look average.
