If we played in all games like we did tonight our record would be more like 25-6.
We played like a different team tonight. Where has this team been.

GO BOBCATS
We made shots. That's the only real difference.

The difference was not just made shots. Ohio stayed composed while the opponent collected technical fouls and missed free throws instead of their own self-inflicted wounds. Jeff didn’t get T’d up. IT was Suder, not Hadaway losing the plot for stretches.

It was a 10+ point difference on the scoreboard, the difference between a close game and being blown out by 15.

The little things that actually matter.

I was leaving the Convo and looked back and saw that tail end of that outburst. I saw several teammates and some others pulling Captain Chaos away from some Miami players. It was kind of over by the time I saw it. Can anyone tell us what actually happened?

He was going after Miami for chirping at the game upon the end there. He wasn’t allowed to proceed through the handshake line. He was escorted to the locker room.

Very hard to tell what was happening on TV. It's clear some things were thrown into the court -- including once during the game. The crowd was engaged and loud, but not the best behaved we've ever had.

But didn't see anything on TV from Hadaway. Most of the ESPN coverage focused on Miami players waving to the crowd, which I assumed was in response to fans being kicked out for throwing objects.

I did not see the Hadaway "incident" but a good number of Miami players sprinted across the court at the final buzzer to give OUr students a hard time. Has something to do with "Love and honor".

One player, scrub and punk Jackson Kotecki, gave our fans the middle finger. Kotecki, a little used third-year player seems to have a problem with Ohio students. I sit behind the scorer's table and like to watch the opposing bench, coaches and players, during the course of the game. Kotecki hasn't played a minute in his 3 trips to the Convo, the first two being Miami losses, yet spent a good amount of time in all 3 games standing up at the end of the bench during an on-going dialogue across the court with our students. This from a player who went from playing 21 games as a frosh to 17 as a sophomore to 5 games this season with a grand total of 6 points this year. Did I say he's a punk? I'll try to remember to share this with OUr fans before Miami's visit to Athens next year.

One thing I kept thinking last night is how much more athletic Miami was than us.

I might be forgetting someone, but have we ever had anybody as athletic as Elmer during Boals' tenure? You watch Miami and Groce's Akron teams and you can see very easily a different caliber of recruiting.

I'll add Toledo. We have no one able to guard UT's Wilson and Blyvins, MAC frosh of the year.

Fun game — left it all out there. I feel for Pavs, what a game and season he’s had. Same with Simmons. They’ve both been such a joy to watch. Two of the top ten players in the MAC this season imo.

Minus his outburst postgame, I thought Hadaway played his best complete game all season. Can’t ask for more than 87 points from your big 3.

Tough to comprehend how much this team underachieved this season. Not that I initially thought we had a shot against Kent, but this was an emotionally draining game to cap off a disappointing season. We’re one and done in Cleveland.

Have to wonder what’s going on in Boals’ head at this point.
Yep, feel for Pavs, too. He's an excellent PG. His size gives some of it away on the defensive side, but we had an elite MAC PG for two years and squandered it. Pavs and Simmons are a combo that should that have been much better, and we just didn't have the right guys around them.
When we landed Simmons in the portal, I thought this was the year we had a legit shot at a MAC tournament title since proven size had been our Achilles. Yea, AJB left and maybe that would have been the difference, maybe not.

But finishing below .500 is something I never saw coming when the season started.

Pavs was a helluva a 2 year player for us. Heard Graff is even copping his jersey now.

Kotecki = Colin Granger in demeanor, size, and skill

There were several things thrown from the student section towards Miami after the game. As someone on reddit said, this is typical rivalry basketball in the Midwest.

Speaking or reddit, fans in the game thread and post game thread from various other fan bases were saying this was the best game they watched all year.

Good point about Elmer. I don't think he'll be a first teamer, but that is as pure of an all-around basketball player as it comes in the MAC. Guy is a killer and could start at the three at lots of power conference teams. Typically a MAC team would play a guy like that at the four, but Miami has him at the three, or they treat him and Byers as interchangeable. Maybe Jordie Bowens with some strength training can get near that level in time.

Bilas said the overtime foul call that went Suder's way was the right call. I was behind the opposite basket but it looked like a clear push off. At some point his elbows to the collar bone are gonna go the opposite way.

I think AJB is worth a few wins. But only a few. We all watched him play, plus he spent most of the year injured. Which is, you know, what it's like to have AJB on your team. Given what AJB showed early in his career, he ended up pretty disappointing. Just never levelled up or added much to his game. I know every thread here is now basically shots at Boals. But who has developed and improved dramatically in their tenure under Boals? I don't know the answer, but I suspect I basically do.

I predicted is at .500. That was mainly because I no longer trust Boals. I don't think he's a very good coach.

You’re not wrong. The first full recruiting class post UVA win is now complete. AJB is gone, Elmore is gone, and Sheldon is an inconsistent specialist. Hadaway to me, is the only player who really improved during Boals’ tenure.

Even the first class remains — Miles never took that next step and Roderick took a nosedive. AJC just wanted to hoist 3’s from the top of the key and fell short of MAC POTY predictions.

I’m unsure if I’m missing any other 4 year players who lasted.

I haven't seen anyone give the full breakdown, and I watched the entire thing unfold, so I'll bite. Right after the buzzer, as Miami started celebrating their undefeated regular season and what should be an at-large bid clinched, Hadaway grabbed the ball, threw it at the team as hard as he could, and charged. Some of the guys on the team were initially able to hold him back, but then he got loose and charged again. Fortunately, his teammates finally got a hold of him, and he was escorted into the locker room without a handshake line. I thought he played well yesterday outside of the usual whining and complaining about obvious fouls he got called for, but long-term, the after-game antics are what I'll remember.

Miami had every right to celebrate the way they did. It's a rivalry game with so much more than usual on the line, especially with Travis Steele getting hit by trash thrown on the floor, the many chants, and the general hostility the entire game. The atmosphere was electric, and I personally have no issue with the celebration. If the roles were reversed and OU were finishing the season at Miami with a perfect season on the line, they would have done the same thing.

On a more positive note, it was so much fun to watch this team play the way we all thought they were capable of before the season. Simmons has been awesome for the last month after a rocky start, and he carried them in multiple games where Pav struggled. Last night, both of them showed up in a big way, and it was the first time I can remember that happening. If they play like that, and Dior and Sheldon are making shots, anything can happen in Cleveland. I also view the 6-seed as a blessing in disguise, as I want nothing to do with playing a Toledo team and the guard tandem that they have. I would rather play Kent any day over a team that hot, and one that we've only beaten once in the Boals era.

Last thought: I was devastated that Pav didn't have one of those two shots bounce his way. Nobody on this team deserved that moment more than he did, and it really sucks that he was so close. He showed up in Athens with what looked to be broken confidence, and game by game, you could watch it come back. All of this culminated in the performances he's had this year and a massive one last night. Yes, he is a flawed defensive player, but he plays hard every game and you almost never see him complaining. It's already been said on this board, but I don't want to know what this season would have looked like without him.

JJ Kelly is as athletic as anyone on Miami. We also whiffed on a dude Boals gave up on who went for 15 and 18 to help clinch BG the 5 seed: Sam Towns. We also could havr used EJ4. Put Towns and EJ4 instead of Breath and Conners and we win. What Miami has over us is unselfish play. The Perry kid is Sears 2.0 and he shared well. The color guy said it best late in the game when Hadaway backed in and threw up a twisting backwards shot: GIVE IT TO PAVELETZKE. THAT IS JUST MEFIRST BASKETBALL!!!" Kelly is a good athlete; he isn't nearly as explosive as Elmer was last night. Both are listed at 6'6, but Elmer played a lot bigger than that last night. My guess is Elmer's wingspan is longer, because he certainly feels a lot longer on the court than JJ.

I was watching Arkansas/Missouri today followed by Tennessee/Vanderbilt.

Elmer would not start for any of those four teams. Key role player off the bench.

Jalen Carey who we wanted so bad had zero points in 12 minutes today for Tennessee

Kelly missed UMass game with an ankle. "Explosiveness" is not a fair metric based on last night alone.

Leaving right after work to make it down. WIfe is saying many roads in Athens area are flooded but I think we will be fine coming down 35 to Jackson or 70 to 33. Can't think any place either way that will be underwater. Been both ways winter , spring , summer and fall and not had to turn back.

Had the pleasure of recounting Ohio Hoops with Jerome Tillman's wife who introduced herself in INDY last night at a professional function. Small world, I think it was the Ohio Basketball shirt that might have given it away.
That was a great game in 2011, Tommy hit a bunch of threes to keep us in it. DJ hit a big three too in one of the OTs. Back and forth all night, big crowd, painful painful final score. In the tourney we beat Toledo in the Convo but lost by 3 in OT to Balls in the quarters in Cleveland. Go Bobcats.
The win over Bowling Green in 1970 filled the convo plus to win the MAC. It was incredible. Best game EVER !

Good take. I thought that was a great night to be in the Convo.

First thing I said after was "I miss Charlie Coles" Aa a friend and in pressers he paid homage to the oOzone as he had seen the rise from the fans he encoounteered as a player and then as an organzed bunch he saw as a Coach. Presseers and in personal conversations I thought walking out he would have had control over the players and avoided that outcome. Travis is different and like John, they're firey wtih a chip that the players carry with theem.

Had a nice pregame at BW3 with Pete's Parents. Great people, dad played from Dusquense so he has ben around as a player when Nee and Fran were here. Peter played Summer ball for Tommy before Bellarmine. My roots are Ohio, my grammie and my HS coach are MIami as are friends with Coaches Coles, Haderic, Henderson, and Pearson, Travis and Tommy's PG from Muncie Central that got fired at Balls and landedon the Miami bench as well as many players.I thought they were going to run away with this and just wished tor a great game.....it is just a game after all....instead we got much more.

We got a GREAT game. Played well....as they were capable of all season. The MAC got a GREAT game at 9 pm on a Friday night. At 100-100 I texted Tommy pics, videos and the scoreboard. He replied from a New Jersey hotel. "Here We GO" That was a game. Everyone can pick itapart for the next decade but anyone who was in the Convo can not deny the experience. Miami was as good as they have been all season reaspondiing to evereything Ohio threw at them and OHIO played as well as we thought they could all year.

I thoroughly enjoyed myseelf, saw a lot of freinds on both sides of the ball, got to sit with Travis before the game as he oddly watched his team in shoot around from the same seats his brother occupies at 730 before the doors open.

Got to Union Diner Saturday and enjoyed a warm Athens springmorning. Well done by all. On to Cleveland. Lots more thoughts but I am headed over the the Balls boards to see what the Fanbaseisthiningthe next coach should be......

Thank you OHIO....friday night was spectacular.

Enjoyed reading your post. It was a night to remember, even if the final score was not in our favor. For some reason this game brings to mind the wise words on etched on the Nebraska football stadium: "Not the victory but the action; Not the goal but the game; In the deed the glory."
