Jeff just lost in the last two possessions of that one. He took two timeouts with him.
Absolutely--outcoached every game, every year. Dude freezes in big situations. Amazing effort by OUr guys. Hadaway was chill for the most part and Simmons and Pavs were sensational. Kelly out for much of 2nd half as well. Miami earned it and deserve the accolades. But OUr guys stepped up. We can certainly beat Kan't State if we play that way.

When it’s all said and done…Boals cared more about feeding Sheldon’s family than his own. Hard to believe he played Sheldon 30 minutes a game his senior year but that’s what Boals did.

That type of talent evaluation and decision making will get you fired.
And his defense was a killer all night…including foul at end of OT against Suder.

Coaching malpractice.

What a tremendous basketball game. That was fun.

We couldn't have played harder or better.

Miami is good but theyre the punks we knew they were. I still think Akron beats them in Cleveland.

Now Im worried we just spent everything we had on the floor tonight and might not have anything left in the tank next week. We shall see.

Or maybe this inspires them heading into Cleveland. Heck, Miami could lose in Round 1.

Agree about UMASS. I think this will be tricky for Miami at 11 AM.

As for Ohio…this was our Super Bowl tonight. No way will they shoot from 3 against Kent like they did against Miami.

Idk how much that was a foul. Suder ran with the ball like Sieh did this past season but I guess that’s what they called.

Was soft for sure, but he never got in front of him. Thought it was an easy call for the ref to make. Bottom line…it wasn’t the only possession of the game where Sheldon “D” cost Ohio big time.

Agreed. Sheldon and Kuany were a rough watch.

From a neutral perspective, that had to be one of the best college basketball games of the season. Best game in the Convo in what, 10 years? 15 years?

Bottom line, it might’ve been our best game of the year. Bottom line, we shot the ball really well from three. That kept us in the game. We shoot our regular percentage We probably lose by 15 or 20 points. then you have our defense which I hate to even talk about. We have a bunch of guys with the slowest feet I have ever seen. Then you add all the jumping at shooters or going behind screens and the mismatches we create. It’s just hard to watch.

I've been telling folks that I think UMass will be the surprise team of the tourney. Every time I've watched them this year it seems to me they are the most talented team on the court, but they lost a lot of those games. Unlike Miami they haven't played well as a team. If they play to their potential in the tournament, I think they'll make a big splash. They can easily beat Miami, IMHO.

Great game that would have been electric if Pavs' shot at the end of regulation goes down.

A problem for Ohio all year has been the mismatches other teams take advantage of when we switch nearly every time on picks. Or, and this happened way too many times this year, we start defensive possessions with wrong matchups.

Their was one second-half possession when we were tied and Simmons was guarding Perry (a freshman) early in the shot clock. I told my son that Perry will demand the ball out beyond the arc, will have his teammates clear that side of the court, and will then take Simmons off the dribble for a layup. That was exactly what happened with Perry (did I say he's a freshman?) ending up with an and-one for a 3-pt play.

But it happened too many times this year and especially v. Miami tonight, where their guards take our bigs off the dribble or their 6-8 player posts up our guard for an easy look around the basket.

Pavs played only 2 years as a Bobcat, but his play and effort makes him one of my all-time favorite Bobcat. He gets the attention of the other teams' defensive effort, gets bullied most nights, doesn't say a word or complain to the refs, plays 37 minutes a night (45 tonight), and gave a herculean effort in his final game in the Convo against a 30-0 team. Thanks, Pav.

What an effort. Jeff had them ready to play, everybody played their butts off, Simmons was relentless, decisive, mature, Conners looked more like the guy we thought we were getting and Pavs played like a star.

It was truly a kitchen sink game. Ohio didn’t win, but it’s all I ever wanted to see from them. A fun night, even if disappointing we couldn’t finish it off.

I'm looking forward to their big dance game.

They won't have MAC refs to give them 41 free throws like they had last night. Get ready for the hashtag #EXPOSED after they get blown out.

Fun seeing that atmosphere in the Convo again. Reminds you of just how fall things have fallen.
That’s unfair. This was a “perfect storm” type of game. Undefeated, nationally ranked arch rival. I honestly can’t remember an atmosphere like this since 98 when Kentucky came to town and painted the Convo blue.

WE saw a foul by Miami, and the refs did not call it on .12 seconds left in the game.

Fun game — left it all out there. I feel for Pavs, what a game and season he’s had. Same with Simmons. They’ve both been such a joy to watch. Two of the top ten players in the MAC this season imo.

Minus his outburst postgame, I thought Hadaway played his best complete game all season. Can’t ask for more than 87 points from your big 3.

Tough to comprehend how much this team underachieved this season. Not that I initially thought we had a shot against Kent, but this was an emotionally draining game to cap off a disappointing season. We’re one and done in Cleveland.

Have to wonder what’s going on in Boals’ head at this point.

The Trent jersey retirement and Akron 2013 were equal in atmosphere to last night IMO. To a slightly lesser extent but almost there were 2011 Miami 3OT and Toledo 2014.

There's an under the basket angle on X and I agree that it is not a foul. However when Suder can put a forearm into Sheldon's collarbone and Dior takes contact straight into the chest and they get the call, Pav should get it too.

If we played in all games like we did tonight our record would be more like 25-6.
We played like a different team tonight. Where has this team been.

I’ll add Akron in 2012 and the bracket buster game against UNC Asheville this same season as well.

It had finally started to reach campus how special that team was towards the end of the season.

Yep, feel for Pavs, too. He's an excellent PG. His size gives some of it away on the defensive side, but we had an elite MAC PG for two years and squandered it. Pavs and Simmons are a combo that should that have been much better, and we just didn't have the right guys around them.
