They look to go undefeated going into January....kicking 10-3 BG's ass in the Stroh Center.....

And when was the last time a MAC team started off 14-0????

MAC Frosh of the Year favorite Leroy Blyden scores 36 pts to lead UT over WMU. Only other contender is EMU's Habhabhab, who Ohio will face Saturday.

Was just going to post about Leroy Blyden. 6'1" guard form Detroit. Yes he got 36 points on 9 of 13 inside the arc and 3 of 10 from three and 9 of 11 at the line.

Tonight's 3 point results:

Miami 47.8
Western 36%
BGSU 22.7
UMASS 21.1 with 8 minutes to go
OHIO 20% (Hadaway really cooking with OOOOOOOOOO for MAC)
Toledo 16%
Eastern 10% with 8 minutes to go
And Central facing the tuffest Defense against the three in the league 0%

That is some rootin tootin shootin averages from long range!

MAC Frosh of the Year favorite Mo Habhabhab leads EMU over UMass with 20 pts, 9 reb, 6 assists and 3 blocks. The big man rarely sits, averaging over 34 minutes/game.

Towns with 24 last night in loss to Miami.

He’s averaging 14 points and 7 rebounds per game this season.

I know he’s in his 10th year at BG, but he’s clearly developed into one of the best players in the conference his senior year.

Quite annoying.

Does anyone know the real reason why he and Boals didn’t click?

Saw this tweet on Twitter after Miami win at BG. And yes…. we know they played the worst non-conference schedule in the country, but there is a lot of truth to this statement. Frustrating that Miami has surpassed us with talent and player development.
___________________________________________________________________________________________

In a CBB world where there are so many things to complain about, it is unbelievably refreshing to see this Miami (OH) team be so good.

Good coaching, player development, players returning, great culture, etc etc

A team that’s easy to root for.

Watching the Miami-Akron game on ESPN+ and if I didn’t know better I’d say the volume of the crowd noise on the broadcast is being enhanced in some way. It sounds like someone is controlling a volume knob on a sound system. Then again, maybe I don’t know better. ;)

Actually, it looked like they had a decent crowd for the "brothers battle." Younger brother, Mom's favorite, won.

Today was an outstanding Saturday on the MAC slate. On top of our buzzer beater you had:

-BG and CMU tied at the half, tied at the end of regulation, and a final score of 101-100

-Toledo coming back from down 16 to win at CMU

-Akron at Miami was neck and neck the whole way. Now I have to say this, there was a call late that was not correct and so far I don't see anyone else on the internet who realizes it. As a fellow basketball official, I'm annoyed. Miami makes 1/2 free throws in the final minute to go up two. On the inbound the Akron player steps on the two inch white end line but no part of his foot goes over the line. This was called a throw-in violation and gave the ball back to Miami. Some places don't have a two inch line - the entire out of bounds area of the court is the same color. I'm watching Duke at Florida State and FSU's court is that way - no white line or black line, just all maroon to the edge of the floor. If this game were played at FSU, for instance, the official would have nothing to trick him into making this call.

OCF, totally agree about the crowd being larger and more active than usual due to Miami’s start and the brothers, and of course, more reaction from them that comes with that. However, if you would listen at points when Miami hits a big basket, or some other play to their advantage happened, the fluctuations in volume didn’t sound natural. For instance, when these plays occurred, the crowd response was immediately very loud and then died down much more quickly than you would expect at any sporting event. Maybe it was my imagination but I don’t think so. Plus, thinking some Miami hanky panky is going on makes a better story. ;)

I certainly would never put "hanky panky" beyond Miami. But, it did seem to me a legitimately good vacation period crowd for the Redchickens. Also, I was very impressed with their 3-point shooting. If they keep that up, we are in deep trouble when we play them unless Pavs does a triple double and shots a record 45 points or something. [Given our recent football scandal "hanky panky" was maybe not the best choice of words.]

Miami, a MAC-best 79% FT shooting team but only 50% on first 18 attempts today, gets 3 FT attempts for Brant Byers with Miami down 3 and 14 seconds left. Byers makes 2 of 3 to get within 1. Good game in Millett.

Edit: UB goes back up 3 on 2 FTs from Frietag. Miami misses 3 attempt, but gets a tip outside to Elmer, who ties it up with a 3. OT in Millet.

Edit: Did I say good game in Millett? I should have said great game. UB hits a 3 with 19 seconds left in OT to tie it up at 102 before Suder hits a 3 at the buzzer to keep Miami undefeated.

Miami slides in at #25 on AP poll. Still just on the outside looking in for the coaches poll.

Calling it first - Loss at Kent tomorrow. Seems like a tradition for MAC teams ot get ranked then immediately poop it away.

Given how badly kent pissed away that game in regulation, I am calling this prediction met.

I'd say close but no cigar. Or, to use another bromide, close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.

What happens when tickets sold plus students attending a game is greater than available seats? Might find out tonight as Miami hosts UMass or Saturday when they host NIU and honor the great Ron Harper. I actually considered this possibility this past September when Ohio hosted WVU at Peden.

Edit: Great game on national TV with a 73-73 tie and 5 minutes left.

This Miami crowd has been AMAZING!!! Millett Hall is packed and the place has a big-time atmosphere!!! This is what MAC hoops used to be like at a number of schools back in the 1990’s and this is great for the MAC tonight! Well done with this turnout and atmosphere Miami!

Someone in the UMass game thread stated that UMass is "trash". Someone else (AndrewRuck??) disagreed. Someone else (Bobcatsquared) said they were going to put together some wins after starting 0-4 in the MAC. And they did, winning 4 of their next 5. They will be a load in Cleveland.

I wish we sucked as bad as Miami. They trailed most of the game and won. We tie the game at 48 and looked like a HS JV team the rest of the way getting outscored 24-9.

I just wish someone would inform Miami that despite the 9,000 plus bat-crazy fans, including the speedo-clad group reveal in the second half that helped change the momentum of the game, and national attention, these games don’t mean anything. It’s ALL about March baby!!!
