Boals after the game said Reef and Clayton are going to be great pros. I am sure they will find teams overseas, but saying they will be “great” is a big stretch.
I actually sort of think Clayton may have a better pro career than college career. In the pros, he'll be asked to do a lot less, and won't play so many minutes out of position. He's got a fast, high release from three and is mobile enough to play passable defense. Think he can be a solid stretch 4 in Europe somewhere. Not a top league, but he can have a career if he wants one.
I can see that. I just thought saying “great” was a stretch. I think Clayton has a chance to be solid because he won’t be playing out of position like you said.

Perhaps Boals' mediocre record has folks reluctant to contribute NIL money!
I doubt fat cats are sitting on the sidelines considering he's been off a NCAA Tournament win the last few years and is an alum. Historically that is a pretty good resume for OU. Moving forward could what donations are coming through be witheld possibly but I don't know if outside of this board the level of true dissapointment out there. It didn't hurt that he beat Akron and Miami at home the top 2 seeds down the stretch when the fanbase was paying attention.

A thread unlike any other. The Toledo record is just bewildering at this point. Even more so after taking Toledo's best player from a season ago.

The Kent & Akron records aren't really even noteworthy, especially considering some of the dominant seasons Akron has had in this stretch. It's really just about the Toledo dominance. It is bonkers.

+1. This thread would not exist if not for the Toledo record. Having a slightly losing record against a few teams in the conference is expected, even for a good team. But going 1-12 against anyone is anomalously bad.

I agree to an extent. But ultimately when you're leading a program in a one bid league, your success is a measure of how likely you are to string together a wins in the NAC tournament and get that bid.

You're very likely to have to play the best programs in the conference in the MAC tournament at least twice. Boals' record against those programs basically reflects the likelihood he can beat 2 or 3 of them in a row in the MAC Tournament. He loses more than he wins against 4 programs in the league, and another (Miami) seems to have a very good coach that's improved their program really rapidly.

Our record in football against Toledo is not much better. Very strange, indeed.

Two months later....it becomes more noteworthy.

In seven seasons, Boals has won 27.91% of his games against Akron, Kent, and Toledo.

Time for a change.

Word is University of Cincinnati has offered $13.2 million a year, with a 10 year guarantee to Fear Leon to take his recruiting knowledge and coaching knowledge to the Queen City. In his press release he can’t Tuen it down and leave the team he’s build at Chuck’e Cheese. They count on him to keep the Ana action going.

Hey BTC….I’ll take the job for 12 million and donate the extra 1.2 million to NIL collective. I’m also taking FJC31 to be the GM. It will be a hoops revival in Cincinnati in no time.

Two of the things JG talked about openly

1) Attracting "rings" to the locker room. Guys who came from great programs that knew how to win. He was all about creating a culture of winners, with players that had been there and wanted to get back.

2) Finding guys who would play at the next level. Whether here or overseas, he wanted guys to develope for the next level.
