QFT. We desperately need stevie back. That sequence where bean got stripped in the backcourt, then fouled the UB guy for the and 1 is JV shit. He gives me 0 confidence

Its not even that Bean is that bad as a backup. We miss Stevie's scoring and energy.  And Mo seems lost and disinterested right now, not sure what is going on there.

And Christian misfired on the back-up plan with BEAN. Can't win games when your point guard can't drive and dish.

You've trashed Bean since early on this year. He led us with 5 assists tonight and was tied for most rebounds with 5. We didn't lose because of bean. We're beat up. We dug a hole again tonight. Can't bounce back from big deficits every time. Bean hit a big 3 when we were down 63 - 58 keeping us alive.

Nice to see the Cats get back in it--just too many trips up the floor at the end without a score--a couple of really bad non-Bean TOs at crunch time.

Buffalo kept it close by poor free throw shooting and a couple of dumb TO's at their end.

Was Travis hurt or foul out--why was he not in there when you are trailing?  Would have been nice to see him sling one up instead of TJ at the end.

Was at game in-person tonight....just SMH at Bean.  He works his ass off and plays hard, which there is something to be said for that......but man, he is just lost a lot and makes some really, really bad decisions.

Example...end of game....Jim calls TO before last Buffalo FT.....from time they leave huddle to FT make to dribble past half-court he seemed like he forgot what he was doing or what was said in huddle......he just stopped and didn't know what to do.  UB threw a zone at him and he just stood there looking at Christian for help.  So he takes three dribbles goes off a screen and takes a three with :20+ left in game?!?!?  No pass...no thought of working it around the zone to maybe, um, Kellogg?  Or even try to get it into lane to Mo?

Just baffling.

That on top of the the just ridiculous one-handed bounce pass turnovers he should copyright......and then the just flat giveaways.........

Brutal.

8 first half turnovers led to 16 pts off turnovers for UB.  'Cats just giving ball away and then giving up points.

I'm not a huge Taylor fan....but Bean cannot handle PG duties solo.  Just can't.  Stevie is gutting out 8-10 minutes a game on a bad wheel......but we are sunk with Bean running the show.

Admittedly had high hopes for him.....but he just isn't that good.

Disappointing.

No this isn't to say it's all on him......we were really sloppy tonight.  Mo looked disinterested at times and invisible.  Smith, Setty both brought good energy.  But we are being held together with duct tape and paper clips at this point.....it's obvious Taylor, Hall and N'dour are banged up......and we are starting to fall apart at the seams a little because of it.

Tough way to end what looked like a really promising season in November.

I saw the end of the first half and most of the second half via the webcast.  Obviously, it killed us to be down by about 18 in the first half and 15 in the second.

But after we'd quickly cut the Beefs lead to about 5-7 in the second half, there were several times when we did something that we have rarely done year.  And it killed us, it kept us from ever getting a lead.  What we did was shoot the ball right at the start of a possession several times.  That's entirely against the patient ball movement and probing which is the strength of this team.

Those quick shots..all missed..gave Beefs less time to feel the pressure of us catching them and quickly gave them the ball back, gave them the opportunity to build their lead.

On a good note, I love how so many guys have contributed meaningfully for us this year.  Setty tonight.

And Bean may have had some bad plays tonight, but he hit the long three that got us within a point or two in the last couple of minutes.  He's been pretty solid, especially lately.

It's great to see the team rally and fight back from a big hole, but at some point you have to stop DIGGING that hole.  At first it was sort of fun...come back from 18 down to win, come back from 15 down to win, come back from 12 down to win.  But some of those games were against Miami, Central, and Eastern.  Trying to come back from huge holes against Western and Buffalo just won't work.  It's disappointing because you can see that this team has the talent to beat anyone in the conference, anywhere.  But on the same token, they can lose to just about anyone, anywhere.  Health is a huge factor, obviously, but in the first half last night when they were getting pounded on the boards, turning the ball over at an alarming rate, and not getting any loose balls, that looked a lot like an effort problem.  It shouldn't take a huge hole to spark this team to play with energy and hustle, but for some reason that seems to be what we have right now.  It won't get us very far in Cleveland, if we even get there.

As long as by "lately," you don't mean the first half - and especially the first 10 minutes - of last night's game.

When you say "Bean", to whom are you referring? I don't see that name on our roster, so it must be a nickname.

Make no mistake about it, considering all of the injuries we are facing and the production we had to replace from last year's class, the fact that we're still going to end up with 20+ wins is almost mind blowing.

It's also important to remember that Buffalo has as many wins against us in the last 5 years as we have wins in the Big Dance.  Let them get excited about a win in the Convo.  It's the pinnacle of UB Hoops to this point.

Read the comments carefully in this thread. I think I've read one positve comment about Bean's play at point guard. He's not a point guard...plain and simple. Christian shot and missed here.

I imagine that a #5 has tainted point guard opinion for OHIO fans in a positive way for a few years to come--its always toughest to follow an Icon.  My question to you Bean critics, In the MAC East this season, which PG's do you take in a heartbeat over Bean?  The point being that if there is only one or two better, how did JC miss on him?

We didn't lose because of Bean but he sure was a big part of it.  If you were to make an instructional video on how to telegraph passes or how to try to beat the press with the same move over and over he would be the poster child. He's actually fairly skilled but he appears to have zero court awareness.  I'm not a big fan of bashing players but I would stick him as Travis Wilkins' backup and have Nick and TJ bring the ball up and run the offense.  I don't care what numbers he had because I saw too many other bad plays, like walking right into multiple obvious picks on D or just losing his man entirely.   He misses tons of opportunities on offense as well because he just doesn't see the court.   But he can score on occasion.

In this article it states he prefers to be called by that name

On Feb. 2, in a loss to Kansas, true freshman Javarez “Bean” Willis showed his confidence to his teammates — by calling them out. “We were down by a lot,” Roberson said, “and he just basically told us, ‘We’ve got to have balls,’ and just to hear that coming from a freshman got us kind of fired up, you know. It helped us in the second half, and we played a lot better thanks to Bean.”Willis — who prefers to go by his nickname — said he felt the Red Raiders were not playing like they were capable of and were giving up too easily.

Looks like the only place on the web or in the gym he is not referred to as Bean is on the Official Ohio Roster. Nice Find. http://www.ohiobobcats.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/ohio-m-baskbl-mtt.html

regardless of his pedigree the reality is Bean is a backup who has been forced into a starting role to due injury. I don't like bagging on players either but some of his decisions last night were very frustrating to watch.

let's also keep in mind that Bean was the impetus for rallying the team around the idea of being "The Pack" and was a leader off the court in addressing a chemistry issue that cost us games last year. In that regard Bean is already responsible for more wins than losses.

I'd rather have a strong teammate that struggles on the court than a ball hog that is a cancer in the locker room.
