Arkley's piece in the Mess today sort of implies that DJ's redshirt this year was due to his medical condition rather than simply being a freshman.  Wonder how quickly it became known that he had knee issues.

It's been known all year. I think they said all along the red-shirt was because of his knee.

Is the team pursuing a medical redshirt for Ricardo? I know he played in slightly more than 30% of the games, but I wonder if an exception to the rule ever happens. If they are pursuing his medical redshirt, what is the time horizon for a decision from the NCAA?

If they could make the case that the NCAA will profit financially from another year for Ric, I'm sure they'd listen.

I have no idea what the precedent is, but my guess is the 30% is a firm number.  Otherwise, it would be unmanageable with people saying, "we'll 34% is pretty close," or "36% is close."  Hope I'm wrong and he gets the opportunity to complete his Senior season, I just doubt it.

It is 30% with all percentages rounding up.  Exhibitions and/or scrimmages do not count. So for our purposes we played 37 games with 30% being 11.1.  That means that Ric can have played in 12 games to qualify.  Unfortunately, he played in 13 (14 if you count Senior night).

Actually, he may qualify if Heidelberg is considered an exhibition that would knock the games he played down to 12.

This is just shooting from the hip here, but if they were planning a potential appeal for a medical redshirt, would they still go through everything as far as his senior day involvement vs. Kent St?  Getting him out there for the senior ceremony and then putting him in for the tip?  I guess what I am asking is, if the staff is requesting a medical redshirt, will that be public knowledge or does that all take place behind closed doors?  And when does that process begin (or more importantly, need to begin)? Would they allow him to participate in Senior Day activities all the while knowing they plan to seek a medical redshirt?

I had the same thought.  If they were considering going for a fifth year, can't imagine they'd risk it by putting him on the floor for even a few seconds in the senior game.

I remember hearing someone say that for RJ to get his redshirt Ohio would have had to win the MACC and make it to the NCAA championship game.
