The only real precedents I can think of are Bill Guthridge and Gene Bartow. Guthridge didn't stay long enough to judge whether he would've been a long-term success. Two Final Fours are great, but he also was handed Antawn Jamison, Ed Cota and Vince Carter to start off with. Considering he was handed a juggernaut, I'm not sure I'd call Bartow a success.
Oh, and poor Mike Davis. But those were wacky circumstances.
