In the chatter room during today's game, there was the usual tiff about fans of the junior institution in columbus and the quality of (and need for) their support of Ohio University.  Someone in the chatter raised some good points:

Some of those posters have reference to the school in columbus in their handle.  Those handles and their rather haughty attitude about columbus raise these

When they post on the boards of columbus (the thought of which must wet their pants), do they have any reference to OHIO UNIVERSITY or THE BOBCATS in their handles?  Do they stick up for OHIO UNIVERSITY or do they put us down or ignore/disavow us?  At OHIO games and columbus games, do they wear OHIO garb?

If they went to/supported UMich and columbus, would they post on the columbus boards with some reference to Mich or the Wolverines in their handles?  Would they speak up for the UMich on the columbus boards?

Excellent point.

Everybody in my family went to Ohio State and I don't really like my family.

As a result I have never really liked the Buckeyes.

I would love to see Ohio end the Buckeyes Season just once before I die.

It may not happen, but it is possible.

Thank you, Monroe, for laying out the ground rules of Ohio fandom.  I will surely sleep better now that you have provided me with such clarity.

Don't slip off the pedestal you are on.  A fall from those heights would surely be fatal...

Who cares?  Do internet monikers really cause damage to anything other than you own psyche?

Have you soiled yourself posting on a board ever?  If so, I recommend you seek immediate medical attention.  Can't say I've had that problem, but then again, I'm only 32.  Maybe that happens with advanced age.

I cannot speak for everyone, but I do not have a handle on any Buckeye board.  I read two sites, and that's the extent of my involvement.  Also, as previously noted, I do not support OSU financially in any way aside from the occasional ticket purchase.

In my own experience, the huge majority of Buckeye fans I know root for Ohio, so long as we are not playing each other.  The only state school that they tend to strongly dislike at all is UC, and they will generally pull for most other state schools.

When I'm at an OU game, I wear green and white.  If I'm at a Buckeye game, I wear scarlet and grey.  If you need further explanation, PM me.

Apparently you're not from around here.  That is a real rivalry, not some fabricated one like a few in this wonderful online community think we have with OSU.  Animosity, hate, and most important, they actually play each other EVERY year and not once every decade or so.

Satisfied?  Don't answer that.  We know the answer.  Luckily, I don't need your blessing when choosing who to root for.

Blee--Why so angry?  If you're comfortable in what ever skin you're in, then you could respond in a calm way.  No need to go ballistic against an attempt, leavened with only a bit of animus, at reasoned argument.  Have some fun with it, if you will.  But you seem to be about to go for the material criticism of weapons.

My questions are fair and reasonable.  They needed to be asked.

Sorry, but the conscious choice of a handle which references the school in columbus is indicative.  Else why would one choose it?

So, you don't post on any columbus boards, just read some there.  Fine.  Most of us don't care hardly a bit for columbus.  Just a different point of view.  If you don't live that point of view, fine.  I don't see why anyone should be surprised that here you find animosity toward columbus.  It seems pretty true that they..their fans...look down, way down, their noses at any other school in Ohio and that they refuse in hoops to play at any other school in Ohio.  That refusal irks some of us--I think that's a fair reaction.

I have little respect for Ohio fans who root for columbus.  I gather that recent success has led to a lot less wearing of columbus gear in Athens.  I find such the wearing of such gear by OHIO people (students, etc) abhorrent.

The thinking that we are not a rival of columbus (which I don't concede) seems to encompass that we could never be such.  Which is arrogant.  No true Ohio person accepts that.

Calm down.  Have fun.  Find that you can still root for Ohio this season--given that columbus' season is over.

I certainly don't own any OSU gear and never will, and thanks to the education I've received reading this board, I absolutely hate Ohio State's use of the word "OHIO" as that's us (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) but in the end, so long as someone's a supporter of Ohio, they're a friend of mine.  I honestly don't care whatever university they might like.  Any friend of Ohio is a friend of mine.  Maybe I'm strange that way.

If it's any consolation,  OSU athletics is stepping up their "we own sports in Ohio" egos and pissing of pro hockey and pro soccer fans now.

Urban meyer:

Why should Georgia’s elite 2015 prospects consider Ohio State? “You get a premium education with the opportunity to go compete for a national championship in a large city that really has no professional sports team. There’s a lot to be offered up here.”

not only fighting words, but rather ironic when he's the coach of the most lucrative professional sports team in the state.

I'm fine with and proclaimed Ohio fans rooting for whatever team they want as long as they're a Bobcat first.

I also won't turn down any other people supporting Ohio in any way by taking their money. Who cares

This thread is going exactly how the real chat goes.

For accuracy purposes, I should probably make a comment about expanding Peden or how great the Nelsonville Bypass is.

Said it before - saying it again.

ANY and ALL split loyalty/support, any split whatever serves the interest and benefit of tO$U EXPONENTIALLY greater then OHIO. PERIOD.

tO$U is one of the most actively involved and poweful "BIGs" with agenda and actively pursuing to diminish and bury the relevance and opportunities of the "Mids".

You are ignorant, in denial, or just plain full of it if think otherwise.

Further to my point.

Columbus Dispatch today - writer referred to UD as "one of the little brother in state schools" (may not be exact quote but that was the essential statement").

Can you ever imagine an OHIO alum or fan ever referring to tO$U as OUr "big brother"? If you can, then you got issues as far as I am concerned.

Maybe their writers read BobcatAttack and other message boards around the state and know they can get under the skin of people like you.  Sort of like how Colin Cowherd on ESPN Radio stokes up major fan bases all the time just to get listeners, writing controversial things in the Dispatch gets your attention and keeps you coming back.  You can't just turn it off or stop reading, so you keep feeding the monster...

That writer should work on their googling skills. Dayton is private.

We've had one poster speak of his activity on or about columbus threads.  The silence of the other known columbus partisans on this board in response to the questions posed is rather deafening.

It could be that none of them view or post on columbus boards.  Difficult to believe that, though.

Typical.  Don't meet the point on its merits.  I like the 'no one reads' by someone who pretty clearly has.  And, the usual 'has only one axe to grind' genius.

Pathetic.  If I didn't post so that you could follow on with your inanities, would the glow leave your lives.
