From the 7 minute to the 3 minute mark of the 2nd half.

We went from up 48-43, to down 59-50. 16-2 Akron run.

In that stretch Akron was 7-8 from the field and hit 2 3's (Ali and Freeman).
Freeman was 4-5, 9 pts. Ali was 2-2, 5 pts, Tribble 1-1, 2 pts.

Ohio was 1-5, 0-3 from 3. Only bucket was a Clayton dunk. Mitchell 0-2, Clayton 1-2, Hadaway 0-1.

Akron out-rebounded us in that stretch 7-0. 3 from Freeman, 3 from Ali, 1 from Tribble.

That was ballgame.

I believe we played them three games this year. They scored 67, 67, and 65. The one game that we scored 74 or so we beat them. That was because we hit threes. The other two games we lost because we didn’t hit threes.
Hit the old nail squarely on the head with this observation.

Boals just confirmed we are not considering the CBI or CIT. Season over.
Complete rebuild might be coming.

Realistically who can we count on to return next year? No one is guaranteed. Going to be a strange, long offseason I fear. Up 10 at half we should have closed this game. This is on Boals.

Just looked at the box score. Mitchell and Hunter were 10 for 28. I’m sure half of those 18 misses were blocks in the lane. I think I can now rest my case that we have guys that are too small going into the lane always thinking they’re going to score.

Like everyone, I think these guys play really hard. I think the roster was just very limited and I agree that is on boals and the staff.

Live by the 3 and die by the 3. An absolutely incredible effort but it really came down to shooting 21% from 3.

If one or two more goes in... We are playing tomorrow night.

You realize NIL doesn't come from athletic department funds, right?

Sure it doesn't. And yes I know it's not SUPPOSED to.

one of the benefits of quick smaller guys driving to the lane is you create contact and get fouls. we did create contact but the refs didn’t call many body fouls.

I somewhat agree. The only player with remaining eligibility who I could see leaving under his own volition is Shereef. Nebraska could find a role for him. Or maybe a return to Creighton. If he stays, he is the incumbent lead guard. Everyone else - I don't see the angle. I don't see a better playing situation for anyone than at Ohio and I don't see bigger schools ponying up an NIL package for anyone else. The only guy besides Jaylin who made an all-conference team is AJ Clayton who just went for seven and three to close the season.

Funny how everyone has a slightly different opinion.

We lost by silly turnovers. Three travels, a double dribble and down three, a toss out of bounds and of course not boxing out on a free throw. My favorite Miles, missed the front end of the one and one which hurt but I'll cut him slack because he was such a great teammate.

I don't understand coach think nor you guys ripping Clayton. Hadaway was the bust tonight. Is Cornish that much worse on defense than to leave your man totally wide open when you are close by? And talk about Klanks; I guess at least his shot hit the rim on those terrible threes Hadaway missed. Plus his attitude is really one as a sulker if things do not go his way.

Reef is the Boss. Hunter made the greatest save on a breakaway since LeBron. Wiznitzer played with heart and was much better than many of the bigs I saw play on day one.

Boals never gave his starters a break during the last 7 minutes. Either Wiz or Cornish should have put Hadaway on the bench and let Clayton guard Hunter--it could not have been any worse then the results plus it would have given Hadaway a rest. Sheldon should have spelled Miles a minute too.

Golden opportunity to have gone to the Dance. Go Sullinger and Santiago shoot 71 % from three again to give your Flashes a chance. Upset 1, 5 and 2.

Ohio gave Akron a great game and had it, but Akron woke up. Bobcats had too many turnovers and struggled shooting. Can't make those mistakes against a good team like Akron. Give Boals and the staff credit for shutting down Akron. Groce is a good coach too and he made adjustments. Akron had the league POY and that was the difference. Ohio lacked a Leon Williams/Jerome Tillman/Trent, Campbell, Wilson III, type inside. That was the missing piece from being an NCAA team. We got beat up on the boards.

Tough tough loss to swallow, but they could have folded late and didn't. You have to admire that.

I still don't get AJ's tendency to just fire a three as soon as the ball touches his finger tips on the perimeter. When he's involved in the action and actual plays are run and executed properly, he can square up and drill it. But some of those chucks early in the shot clock I swear sometimes the ball is out of his hands before he even looks at the rim. Slow it down big fella! Loved his defense in the first half by not picking up his 3rd foul once he came back in.

Reef has the opportunity to be a really good player in this league...if we can keep him. That pump fake and spin on the block he had in the first half was a thing of beauty. Really wish we could have gotten him more looks and 1v1 action.

Definitely gonna be a strange offseason. If Reef sticks around we should have a solid foundation between he, Clayton, Hadaway and Sheldon. Other than that? We need some reinforcements or other guys need to get a lot better this offseason.

EDIT: I keep forgetting about AJ Brown and Elmore James. What am I thinking? We'll be fine!

Last night at the game, I saw refs missed a lot of fouls, over back call.

Our record is 20-13 and 13-5 in the league. We are tied with Akron 13-5 PCT
.722

We played great basketball from Jan 26 to March 15 (11-3)

Hope we are going to postseason tournaments this year

All three refs are bald, as is Groce and his assistant. Birds with no feathers flock together.

Pretty consistent with Groce teams.

Since the day he stepped on campus in Athens to present he has preached defending the 3 line. For those who read KenPom's thoughts, there is some discussion https://kenpom.com/blog/offense-vs-defense-3point-percentage / but JG truly has his players "close out hard and run them off the 3 line".

I always look back at this board and remember a comment that surfaced years back (pre-crash) about how we " make a 16% 3-point shooter look like he's ready for the NBA" lamenting the fact that so many teams we face suddenly drop a boat load of 3 s on us out of nowhere.

This one still stings. Akron was there for the taking, but they have Freeman and we don’t have down low even half the player Freeman is. Crazy to think if we finished 4th or 5th there is a good chance we are 40 minutes away from the NCAA tourney .

While Freeman was absolutely taking us to the woodshed in the paint in the final 6-8 minutes our so much improved 6'11" big man was on the bench watching. If that doesn't say it all I don't know what does.
