Arkley reporting that rivals.com has reported

Tariq Owens, a 6-9 four-star prospect, is planning to ask Ohio for a release from his Letter of Intent, according to his AAU coach.

If the coach is not totally in, why should a recruit be? Recruits probably like stability.

IF this is true, it's no shock.  Like I mentioned last night, the mere fact that JC initially interviewed for the position (even if only by phone and even if he was only entertaining a phone call from BC) has consequences.

The latest tweet from Evan Daniels says that: According to Tariq Owens' coach Dwayne Wise, Jim Christian and Owens communicated while he was in meetings in Boston.

Sounds like JC is as good as gone.

And now he retweets a guy telling him he'd like to see Tariq bring his talents to Athens? Such a weird situation...

In the wake of the Tariq Owens decision today. Signed LOI's are binding, to rescind one requires a formal process from the NCAA (cont)

So far, there's been no indication from Ohio that the process has started. So, until a formal request is made, Owens is still tied to OU

I'd love to hear from all the Jim Christian fans now. At least when we lost Groce/LeVert...we were left with a Sweet 16 appearance and 3 NCAA Tourney wins.

Arkley article quotes guy from Scout that says he spoke with Owens and he said he wasn't coming to Ohio and was willing to sit out a year if he had to if not released. Arkley spoke with Owens directly and asked him if he would still come to Ohio if JC stays, he wouldn't answer.

Damage done, hope JC is gone and gone soon so we can move forward. Too bad too, I think Tariq could do some special things in Athens, with or without JC.

I think JC has done a great job in his 2 years in Athens.

Not sure why you fault him for considering a better opportunity. Most people would consider an opportunity that could double or triple their compensation.  To not consider it would be foolish IMO.

As far as Owens ... his reasons for asking to be released could be unrelated to JC. Remember that he up and left his school in FL with no real explanation. I'm not so sure he doesn't have some baggage.

If he's not been offered the job at BC he can't make a decision. And if he doesn't have an offer then Schaus can't make a counter to try to keep him.

I've been a big fan of JC but the manner in which he has handled this has sucked.  He's been exposed as just another opportunist. Jumped at the first job offer when he was  at Kent, asked Schaus for the job at Ohio when that didn't work out, positioned himself as a guy who belongs in the MAC and at the mid-major level, and then jumps again at the first phone call. He's been exposed to the fans and exposed to potential recruits.  At this point, he might as well leave because the damage is done.

Spot on....Christian just set OHIO basketball back 3-4 years with the recruiting debacle that is about to unfold. All of this from a guy who has 0 career NCAA wins. Well played Jim Christian...well played.

You keep ignoring FACTS!

I already asked you what's wrong with someone who is being considered for a position that pays double or triple his current compensation.

What's Christian done wrong? Is it his fault BC called? Is it his fault they apparently see potential in him? You claimed he accomplished nothing in his 2 years in Athens. I guess BC sees thigs differently. And the 25 wins this year with a very beat up team is an accomplishment, whether you think so or not as it's 3rd most in Ohio history.

You make a commitment to a group of young men, and a community, that you're here to win championships - to take the program to an entirely new level.  You're an Ohio guy…heck, your wife is a Bobcat.  You tell your players that you're all part of a "pack" that must relentlessly pursue its goal no matter what happens. Your players buy in 100%…one plays on a broken limb, another with bad knees and ankles…all to continue the pursuit of that goal.  And then you bail on them when the first opportunity arises. Nope, you don't consider maybe actually building the dominant program you talked about and then somewhere down the road taking a job that will pay three times your salary.  You want it now. And the Pack?  Screw 'em.  They're left in the dark along with the league's most devoted fans.

My biggest thing is what does BC see in him? This is someone who already tucked his tail once. As a place that will be pressed to finish in the top half of the ACC for the immediate future, what's to say JC doesn't bail again at some point?

I think my problem is twofold: timing and poaching Ohio's best recruit.  Because of the timing Ohio's left with potentially 6 open spots- the 2 open scholarships and JC's incoming class, one of which is already attempting to leave.  Then secondly, if Arkley's tweets are to be believed, JC has actively tried to Owens with him.  I'll admit, I might be very wrong as we don't have any real facts at this point.  But it doesn't look good.
