Quote:expand_more
"I am extremely excited about the future of Ohio basketball and I am elated to have a chance to add to its rich tradition," Phillips said. "This is an outstanding university in a terrific community. I share the vision of the administration as to what the enormous potential is of this storied program. I simply cannot wait to start working with our players and helping them reach their potential. I want our fans and my players to know that I will pour maximum energy and enthusiasm into Bobcat basketball.

Love it.

I really don't know anything about Saul, but if he can recruit players to N. Dakota, he will have no trouble getting them to Athens.

Actually recruiting there is not as hard as it might seem. NDSU is on the border with Minnesota, a state full of great basketball players, and Minnesota only has one Division I school. Anybody slightly under the cut for Minnesota who wanted to stay close to home had basically two choices: Milwaukee or NDSU.

Great hire! For Ohio to be able to hire a head coach with 7 years' experience who just won an NCAA tournament game is phenomenal, and speaks to how far our program has progressed in the past five years. This would have been inconceivable just a few years ago.

Very impressive resume!

Athletic dept needs to correct the spelling of Wisconsin-Platteville at ohiobobcats.com.

Agree 1000% Jeff. Can't wait to meet him and see him get started. As others have said if he could recruit to N.D. between their weather and travel, O.U. should be a piece of cake.
Great job JS!!!

It's not every day you can lose a coach to the ACC, then *upgrade* with his successor 3 days later.

If OHIO loses any players after this announcement, I will be very surprised! Great selection. Very excited for the future of Bobcat basketball!

We tripled his salary, it feels nice to be on the big money side of things for once. Btw, that's exactly $500K more than JC's contract, wonder where we got that extra $500K from.

If he can keep the rest of the current guys on board this feels like a serious upgrade and program boost despite losing Tariq. I'm looking forward to having an exciting coach again.

Good points Tim. Not trying to be funny, but TOS had that philosophy of going after Minnesota players for those same reasons.

In reading up on Saul, I like the Bo Ryan pedigree (one shot away from a national championship game). Love that gif too.

So does anyone know what type of system he runs? Will he be guard heavy like Groce or Big heavy like JC?
