Maybe Harney wanted to go somewhere where he could be THE man.

Something for the old timers' department:  Many years ago, in the 70s, Fairmont State was coached by Joe Retton, father of Mary Lou Retton, the famous gymnast.  During those years they made more than one run in the NAIA tournament.

Sorry, but this can't be true, Jeff.  One of my friends, a WV native, insists that Mary Lou is Hot Rod Hundley's daughter.  It's in the genes there in Mountaineer Land.

I believe they've still got one man too many for available schollies.

You got it.  According to this, they were one over the limit and Harney was the obvious choice for departure.

Well, 99% of division one scholarship players think they're going to the NBA. Perhaps he's realizing ahead of time that's not happening and has decided that basketball is secondary.

I find it most interesting Zips Nation's reaction is little more than a shrug.

He's the kind of player whose talents any team would want to have, when he's playing with his head in the game, but it seems he's way more trouble than he's worth.

I'd forgotten about the suspension, and just assumed he was returning.  Head case or not, he's a heck of a defender when he wants to be.

weren't academics an issue for Harney at some point or am I getting him confused with one of the many other Akron players that have had academic issues?

Yes, he and Treadwell were listed as seniors last year and both had to earn their fourth year of eligibility and apparently did so. Dambrot said at the MAC tournament both would be back.

Maybe my memory is bad but I can never remember Harney having much effect in our games vs. 'kron.  Perhaps one time, but not much over the many games.

He caused DJ fits at least twice.  As mentioned earlier, the young man could play defense, when he felt like it.

Fair enough.  I was thinking of scoring.
