I'm looking at verbalcommits.com/schools/akron, and note that Diggs and Treadwell both aren't shown in this list.  I know it's been discussed on here, but I thought each of them still had a year of eligibility?  Frankly I hope they don't, solely because they'd be really tough to play against as 5th year's.

That list also is missing Nick Harney, who is expected to be back with the Zips.

I believe Harney and Treadwell have to apply to get their fifth year and it's based on their academic progress.  Perhaps until they get their grades and have reached the benchmark they can't be added to the roster?

I didn't realize Harney was a potential 5th year.

Harney and Treadwell are both expected to be back, but right now Akron sits at 14 scholarships for next year. So if they both return someone is going to get Crean'd.

I think that's basically correct, but Dambrot has said a few times that he fully expects both of them will be eligible for a fifth year.

I'm guessing the Verbal Commits page just sees them listed as seniors from this past year and assumes they won't be back.

If this incoming PG 'kron has is as advertised, and these two come back, they should be really tough.

Would be interesting to see a team/coach really go hard recruiting after 5th year guys.  If they were decent ballplayers, a team load with 5ths would be quite tough.  Kinda the anti-Calipari.

And don't forget the convicted felon, Alex Abreu, could be returning.

If he returns it would either have to be as a walk-on or they would have to cut two players.

Interesting thought.

Also, I've heard--and I'm totally making this up so there's not a bit of truth to it--that we're going to recruit Abreu as a 5th year graduated eligible guy.  He'll probably pursue a marketing degree.

Pretty sure this is illegal, and at tee very least highly unethical to go after players under scholarship at another school.

Do the business majors on the team get to intern with Alex Abreu?

If by "intern with" you mean "sign for packages" then yes.

Till--Could be.  But if the players have declared their intention to 5th year at another school...?  It would seem to be rather similar to guys declaring that they're going to xfer.  Doesn't that open up fullscale recruiting?

Nick Harney going to Fairmont State for senior year.  Opens a spot for a felon PG, just saying.

Like him or not, I've always thought Harney was a solid contributor to the Zips. I'm rather surprised that he's going Div. II. Fairmont St. is a good program in a good conference, but it still surprises me. Harney could be dominant on that level.

You, me, and most anyone who follows the MAC.  I wonder why he'd go this route?  If he can't return to Akron, there must be a D1 program that would have welcomed him.

Maybe Harney wanted to go somewhere where he could be THE man.

Something for the old timers' department:  Many years ago, in the 70s, Fairmont State was coached by Joe Retton, father of Mary Lou Retton, the famous gymnast.  During those years they made more than one run in the NAIA tournament.

And now we await the obligatory "future endeavors" message from Napoleon Dambroteparte.

By going to a Division II school, he doesn't have to sit out a year. I'd have to imagine that was a factor.
