let's put together this team .... I see we're losing Nehemias Morillo now w/ Orlando Antigua leaving Kentucky and taking over the South Florida job ....

Tariq Owens may be leaving ?

Who's coming and who's going ?

Can we use this thread to discuss next years roster and what we've got to look forward to ..

Stevie, Bean, Setty, Antonio Campbell all returning

Crute coming in .... I've heard some discussion about Ryan Taylor from wisconsin ....

Until we know otherwise, I see the current roster being:

Post:
N'Dour
Campbell
Mompremier
Setty

Wings:
Harley
Crute
Wiggington

PG's
Taylor
Willis

Keeping this group here at this point, assuming Owens and Morillo-Lajaras are both gone, is pretty important in my eyes.  It gives the new staff the ability to go out and find the best players they can without having to use a scholly on someone who wouldn't ordinarily be someone they'd offer, but they are this year because of a desperate need at a spot. (I'm thinking of 2's and 3's right now - keep Wiggington, and there's decent depth and flexibility.)

It also allows for adequate depth, and we can't imagine we'll see the injury bug hit like it did last year anytime soon.

Another wildcard in this is Ricardo Johnson's appeal for an extra year.  That would be a huge blessing in my opinion, both for him, and the team.

The only reason I wasn't referring to Crabtree is that he's not a scholarship player (yet).

Jim Christian recruited Khari as a last minute replacement for Anrio Adams, when he decommitted.

I don't care of this kid can play or not, he's the kind of student that OU needs and wants.  Check out this interview.

I like the quotes--sounds like a quality young man.

But how anyone can tell anything about a player's skills from a highlight reel is beyond me.  By definition, they are only the good stuff.  And, they seem to be filled with a fair amount of indifference by the defenders.  I'm not at all knocking this young man--just highlight reels alone.

Come on Alan...you'd rather have the Olsen Twins...umm LaFerla's...over guys who can contribute? What is the point of recruiting? Saul can't swing and miss here early on.

For commoners like you and I  - I would agree, but for those that really understand the game, a reel can be...revealing.  See Warrior's analysis under Perez's thread in recruiting as an illustration of what can be gained.

I'm with Monroe on this.  I've forwarded recruiting videos to both OU football and basketball coaches.  One of their first replies has been - this kid is pretty good BUT the competition isn't."

Which is a reflection of the kids you video, not the value of tape. For if the quality of the competition is sound the value of the tape will increase. Therefore, video is of value.

Irregardless of the level of comp tape is telling.

Coaches prefer full games but highlight reels still provide a lot of info.

Even against poor comp you can see athletic ability, tendencies, choices and decision making processes, team play/selfishness and a myriad of other things.

Granted they are put together to show the best of a recruit but they also give a good look and an eyeball on a kid.

Most of the coaches I know accept and always look at anything they can. I have never heard them dismiss a kid by saying " look at who he is playing against" . It is one thing to factor competition level in but IMHO I would think anyonw worth their paychieck and position would recognize a player and his positive qualities even if he was in a pick up game at Ping, Really good scouts can filter the extraneous stuff out. .

Gonna be awful young and not very deep. Hope the talent is there to thrive this year.

Looks like we still need a TUnji, a McKinley and a Beard so there are enough bodies to practice.

The not very deep thing really concerns me.  I'm really hoping Ricardo gets that year of eligibility to make 11 scholarship players.  Maybe I'm too optimistic, but I'm wondering if there's a reason behind not offering Perez -- i.e. maybe they have a good feeling about Ricardo's situation?

Current roster by class-

Sr- Taylor, NDour, Willis
Jr- Setty
So- Campbell, Mompremier
Fr- Harley, Crute, Laster, Taylor, Simmons(RS)

Currently we have 11 scholarship players with 10 eligible for next season. There are 2 scholarships remaining and SP has said that he is fine with adding those 2 to the 2015 class with the 3 that will be available from the seniors.

Ric's situation doesn't effect Perez because Ric's scholarship would only be for 1 yr. I think SP is hesitant to sign Perez for a couple of reasons- with Harley and Simmons' red shirts the freshmen class is already at 5, and I'm guessing he thinks he can get a much stronger player at a position of greater need in 2015. Perez is a 6'4"ish SG. So is Crute, Laster and Taylor.

Hopefully Ric gets a 5th year and who knows, maybe Owens comes crawling back. (haha, j/k)

I'd say perimeter is basically right on that. The freshman class already is big, especially at that position, and Perez -- no offense to him -- would take up a scholarship for four years that potentially could be given to a better player rather than just offering a scholarship to a guy basically just because there's one open now. It seems like a better option to hold on to a scholarship or two unless something really good comes up.
