Flags were strange and seemed out of place. It was almost too much color going on IMO...

I like Both.;...the flags were a selling point to me. Muncie Central has the flags of the nations of every kid enrolled EDIT (displayed prominently on the wall of )  the Cafeteria. Those flags were in no way out of place.  That said, I love this treatment and if the flags had to come down this is a suitable a replacement as anything I could think of.

Wow, that seems really formal. In our high school, we didn't have to enroll; we just brought our lunch money or packed our own. ;)

Borna, you say branding is important, and it is important. But what message does "welcome to ohio" send? It looks like it's just taking up some space in the middle of the arena. I don't see a branding message there.

If you don't see a branding message there, I don't know what to tell you. It's strongly associating "Ohio University" with "Ohio as a whole."

I guess if you think slathering "Ohio" over everything is the message, than you're right. We do that now and it's our name. In an earlier thread somebody made a good point that if we don't use it, we lose it, specifically to Columbus, who wants to exploit it for their purposes. But we have been using it and I would like to think our message is more than defending our name. But maybe it's not. Maybe Popeye was right. "I yam what I yam".

OHIO is the brand identity - it is not the brand - big difference

We had a thread on this a while back - folks can revisit if they wish.

I forgot how funny that thread was. No matter what anyone said, CC Cat just said "that's not a brand." For 3 pages. It reminds me of listening to "consultant speak" where a consultant gives a huge presentation and at the end you have no idea what the hell they were talking about. But, you better not admit it or you are a dumbass.

Ohio University has a brand. When people see OHIO they are supposed to think "The best student centered learning experience in America". Or wait, is it "the best transformational learning experience in America"? I can never remember.... And I should....It is supposed to be one of those.....

You know, it is something boring a public entity has to use because it can't take risks.

When someone wants to know what OHIO is about, I just tell them to watch the Marching 100. They either get it, or go to Miami.

I don't think you're a dumbass...should I? lol

Actually your comment in the thread was appreciated and relevant. Thank you.

And I agree with you. Visually the Marching 110 conveys who and what we are much more than the word OHIO does.

Simply question for folks. What make Ohio special? What do you see as our core competencies? From the gut and heart, not the dictionary or encyclopedia (I'm old school - no Wiki!)

^^^
My favorite quote from the thread... No wiki, no dictionary, no encyclopedia. That is all I felt I got for three pages.

I don't care what our "brand" is. Anyone from OHIO knows it. If you cannot understand why OHIO "O-H-I-O" is important to this school (I was careful not to use "brand" there) then I cannot help you.

Brand indentity. Brand. I don't care. Fail me on the multi-choice marketing 101 quiz. I do not care.

We are Ohio. Everything that OHIO stands for I want indentified when the word Ohio comes up. The Marching 110 is about as good of a visual as I can think of. Better yet, the Marching 110 marching in front of college green on court street during Homecoming Weekend... That is OHIO.

its those not affiliated with OHIO that matter (i.e., prospective students) we need to help them.

Will do - I probably don't know or care what you do for a living either - but as a graduate of OHIO, I suspect you do it quite well.

so you DO CARE what our brand stands for - excellent. Unfortunately you just can't want it to be, you have to build what your brand stands for.

Agree!

Unfortunately, when the Cats play on ESPN and they show our promotion video, I bet it has a ton of pretty little shots of the College Green and a wholesome co-ed walking about the campus. I know that when we recently attended a college fair here in NC the visuals were exactly that. Why not incorporate the 110 more? I totally agree with you. As someone said in the other thread they are our best ambassadors.

A little story from that fair. As I stood there, the Admissions rep was going through the standard speech. The young lady was concerned about the size of the school. He gave the standard response about size of the Greens, dorms, etc. I told her that my first quarter at OHIO I went to a picnic at the farm of my History prof. My senior year we had Eric Wagner over for Thanksgiving dinner at the house we rented. In between, I was on first name basis with countless profs, coaches and administrators. It is not a big school, but a small neighborhood. It will be home.

We all love OHIO. We all want others to know and appreciate why. FYI - I should have told her to go home and Google Ohio University Marching 110 - my bad.

Now the thread can go back to the banners - they look good.

Why not just that? That's the best recommendation I've ever heard.
